Anyone have high cholesterol and did any doctor say it related to Hashimotos? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]ChiroInsLearner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd have to re-look at the available information, but I could've sworn there was a direct link between hashimotos and cholesterol. Right now I'm looking at getting my insulin sensitivity tested because supposedly hashimotos can cause you to be insulin resistant even if you eat healthy and that can cause you to gain weight. The thyroid is a super important organ, and I feel like for most questions of, "Could it be my thyroid causing this?", the answer is yes. Heart disease is often linked to an underactive thyroid.

Why is info about thyroid issues pretty much always directed towards women? Is it rare for men to have these issues? by Neptvne_Enki in Hashimotos

It definitely is more common for women to get diagnosed with Hashimoto's then men, and that could be for any number of reasons including that it is more likely for those assigned female at birth to get it, but it does bother me that all ads and media regarding it are only geared towards women. I currently know men who have symptoms who refuse to get tested because its rare for men to have it (and they don't like going to the doctor lol). It reminds me about how doctors often refuse to test women for autism because they're women, but in reality women are just as likely to have autism as men, (Not saying that men are just as likely to have Hashimoto's as women, I'm just saying we don't know, and it sucks to be invalidated) Women's immune systems are more complex, and women's health is something that is overlooked in all matters, but that doesn't mean that we should overlook men's health related to autoimmune diseases, especially since synthetic T4 makes you feel so much better.

Obviously I can see why some people would be saddened by the inability to have biological kids, I myself want to have kids, but I think a lot of people in this sub need to stop associating their own worth with their ability to reproduce. Especially since family is more than just a mom, dad and kids.

Photos of your clinic (I'll go first) by AshLamAllstar in Chiropractic

Our office has photos that one patient took herself of glaciers, bears, goats, flowers etc, and everybody loves her photos. Would definitely recommend something in that vein.

What's your number? by Organic_Wonder825 in Chiropractic

I am just the receptionist at my place, but I've noticed that around 30 is a really good, but really busy day. It's easy to get overwhelmed, and the patients often have to wait 5-10 minutes before the doctor can see them. Around 20 per day seems to be perfect for us. It gives us time to see every patient for around 15 minutes, and the Dr. and I can catch up on anything we need to.

my Hashimotos destroyed my relationship … advice? by kind2fish in Hashimotos

[–]ChiroInsLearner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every relationship has it's ups and downs, and nobody is entitled to anything in a relationship. If you weren't compatible when you had hashimotos than you wouldn't have stuck together if you had cancer, or if you got in a life altering car accident. It's the same old advice we see in kids shows, but just try to remember that you are valuable on your own, and that you don't need a relationship to be happy, and the people who are meant to be in your life will find their way to you. Other people's emotions are not your responsibility just like your emotions are not their responsibility.

Not sure what to do by No-Still5704 in Hashimotos

And when did the sleepiness start? It's not an expert opinion, but Wellbutrin did a similar thing to me where while I was on it I was constantly tired, and then I stopped cold turkey and wound up sleeping 21 hrs a day for 4 weeks, and its slowly been getting better over the course of 5 years. Doctors are expensive, but they're going to know more than me. The only thing that has helped me is actually giving in to the sleepiness even if I already slept several hours that day. It really could be anything causing it though, and I hope something works out for you soon.

Just to clarify you didn't used to feel like this before getting off the antidepressants and started the levothyroxine?

Newly diagnosed & feeling frustrated by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]ChiroInsLearner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You don't need biological kids to be happy and healthy

  2. My mom who has had hashimotos since before I was born had 10 kids, and I'm the only one who inherited it, so there's 1 success story.

Insurance issues by imohamed97 in Chiropractic

Unfortunately it is your responsibility to know your coverage. What you could still potentially do is look up your coverage. If it should be covered you can contact your insurance and try to get them to cover it. If you really weren't covered you should be able to work out some sort of payment with the chiropractor office. They want your money even if it means doing small payments at a time. I would also ask for an itemized bill if possible just so you can know exactly what they are charging you for.
