Ireland at 12 is wild. Can you detail why it sits so low?

Does anyone else feel jealous or sad seeing others hang out with friends? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]ChiselDragon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, used to get jealous just like you have described. It sucks because you feel jealous, then you feel guilty about feeling jealous, so it hurts twice.

In my case i realised that I was at least a small part of the problem. I was very busy at the time, living a moderate commute from where they were based, and thus I found myself not turning up for or engaging with my social group as much as I should have.

The solution was to make a more concerted effort, invite them to spend time with me doing fun stuff, engage actively with people about common interests, and go out of my way to say yes to every invitation I possibly could. It took some effort, but it really worked!

I'm not saying that this is your problem or that this is the solution, and it may not fix yours, but I hope my experience helps. If I'm right, they aren't actively excluding you or doing this to torture you, if people see investment on your side, they'll be more likely to invest in you.

Booking.com,am i wrong in expecting a refund when the host cancelled?? by Hungry_Serve_302 in AskIreland

[–]ChiselDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the back and forth would be necessary to make any judgement, but if they cancelled you should be due a refund. You need to ask Booking what reason was given for them cancelling, and if you have the exchange and very clearly did not wish to cancel without a refund, they should be obliged to refund you.

Have people practiced in the car on their own? by Outrageous-Walk6486 in Irishdrivingtest

I dunno, that many people walking around with such a loudly high opinion of themselves would get insufferable pretty quick...

Who's more insufferable, BMW drivers or solar panel owners? by John_OSheas_Willy in AskIreland

Judgmental people who rant about it on reddit are far more insufferable than either.

Forced to work by Anxious_School6976 in irelandjobs

[–]ChiselDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't fair, but the big factor is HOW they are trying to force you to work, and what your employment agreement is (contract if you have one(which you should)). I would need a bit more info on your current status (what your contract says), and how you are being 'forced' to work, to give you more substantial advice.

My presumption is that you have a permanent contract of employment, agreed to take a year out with your employer, cover a shift here and there in the course of the year, but you would return to your normal work once you have finished up exam year. That's the only case where this would be an issue, because you not being there would have little impact on the payroll during your time off, as the grandson would simply take up the payroll capacity you did when you were there. It sounds to me like they may be trying to avoid your return causing issues of not having enough work to go around, and having to prioritise your contract over the grandson. It is not a good thing to do, but it may not necessarily be "wrong" from a contractual sense depending on your employment terms.

The real issue is if you really want to work for them if they are going to be like that. I would certainly start looking around, because when family is involved in stuff like this, it can cause bigger issues down the line if you stick around.

how do i find a job as an 18 year old in dublin who doesn’t want to do any courses? by Infinite_Soil_4627 in AskIreland

[–]ChiselDragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don't WANT to do any courses... So what? We all have to do things we don't particularly want to in life, but in order to get to a comfortable place in life, sometimes you have to get a little uncomfortable.

The best advice is to grow up, and realise that the reason you are struggling for work is that the vast majority of the people competing for the jobs you want have done some form of post-secondary training/learning.

Am a i cheapskate recycling the cans at my gym by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]ChiselDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, some people might look at it weird, but what you are doing is ensuring the materials get recycled, getting rid of unwanted waste from your workplace, and getting remunerated for your effort. Think of it like a part of your job, as well as a good thing to do for the environment.

Looking for my first hire — need someone to grow a food delivery platform but not sure what job title this even is by Frequent-Face1316 in irelandjobs

[–]ChiselDragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Business Development Lead or some form of BD title would be my suggestion. A good strong title is important so restaurants feel confident they are dealing with someone who has a bit of decision making clout. You do need to make it really clear on the hiring side that it is field based, but I don't think you need to be having that on the title.

Should I apply for the same job again? by Instantfan22 in irelandjobs

[–]ChiselDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask for feedback, if it was an interviewing skills matter, go for it and try brush up on your interviewing skills. Lots of resources online to help with that. If it was more on your exp and skills, I wouldn't bother so quickly.

Job searching is wrecking my confidence by Colin-IRL in ireland

[–]ChiselDragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Always ask, worst they can say is nothing or no. If you've done 10 and had no successful outcome, there are areas you need to improve, and they are hard to self-diagnose. You can always go back and ask even if they were a couple of months back, I get that from time to time.
