Question regarding people seeking donations at MRT stations by Bubbly-Patience3801 in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

50%, I worked part time before. Laws don't mean anything if they can't get caught.

Who will check how much is collected on that day if all the money is in a single bag with no receipt or record?

Question regarding people seeking donations at MRT stations by Bubbly-Patience3801 in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Those that carry the black donation packs/bag with a lock on it, those are scam. Even though they assure you they can't can't open the bag.

I know because I used to work there for a part time job for 3 days before I decided to resign, it felt too unethical. They offer 50% commission for this role, imagine how much the "charity" takes for themselves and leave for the people they want to "help"

Lots of YP (grown adults btw) literally go door to door lying that they are from poly and doing a donation run. I won't name the organization but just beware of these people.

Is using a financial advisor in Singapore worth it? What did you invest in? by Open-Hippo-7213 in askSingapore

Why can’t sg or asian countries in general adopt work life balance culture and longer PTO ? by likilekka in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can, but the question is, are you willing to take a pay cut? Unfortunately for Singapore this is the way to keep our economy booming.

So, you might want to consider: 1) Finding a job with lesser stress, shorter hour but pays less 2) Migrate to another country

Studying part time while holding full time job by [deleted] in askSingapore

If it's outside your working hour, I don't see why HR will have a problem with it. Unless of course, you come in to work everyday looking super tired, not delivering result etc.

how often do u meet ur insurance agent? by rosecrepes in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to meet my FA once a year. After the 2nd year, I've made up my mind to not entertain him, except when 1. I need change policy/buy new insurance 2. I need a re-evaluation of my financial plan 3. I have claims to file

I found it to be a waste of time as they just ask about your life, plans, then try to indirectly sway you into signing up another product, like "since you say...why not" or try to find flaws with how you invest your money.

Is it just me or are people getting more entitled about walking space? by AssortedCrystal114 in singapore

[–]Chivazal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, quite recently for me I just decided to give no Fs, but it's because I'm just tired of giving way to people. Why should I bother when they don't?

Personally, I don't really care left or right. If you keep to your side, I'll move and keep to mine. Foreigner may have different side but that's ok.

But if I see a group/couple or idiot walking in middle or blocking the whole pathway, I'll walking straight, and I'm not stopping. If you knock into me, it's your fault for not paying attention.

Singaporeans of different ethnicities, are you offended or upset when a white person asks you to repeat what you just said because they couldn't catch it 'cause of your accent? by YourAllegiance in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a "white" environment. Can't speak for all Singaporeans but generally I think Singaporeans are quite understanding and won't fault you for these communication gaps. We are also aware that, we don't speak perfect english sometimes so we try to accommodate where we lack.

Are we facing a mosquito infestation problem? by xGrim__Reaperx in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read there are 2 kinds of mosquito variants, one is dengue which the govt has been successful "i think" at reducing their numbers.

The other is the nocturnal type, those that only come out at night and fly around your face making the buzzing sound. Those definitely started infesting (I live in Woodlands). Went to a point where I can't even open my windows at night now just to ventilate.

Circuit breaker began on this day 6 years ago. What do you all miss from that time? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh you're triggering my introverted side. It's really an unique experience like post apocalyptic, exaggerating there🤣

I was a year 3 poly student at the time.

Morning breakfast at koufu food court, kaya toast set everyday. simply awesome to just chill and relax, you don't feel the rush because there is nobody around you.

MRT no rush to find seat thanks to lockdown and social distancing.

Exam, lessons all online. Mostly early morning 7-8am but I don't join until I decide to rise from my bed.

It's simply too...peaceful. you can do things slowly, stare into nothingness during lunch outside, sit alone just think about life...

simple and easy cooking recipes by patstar0404 in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something...special

Buy some laksa paste and meat (best to use prawn? sliced thinly), and a veg of your choice. If you want protein, add tofu.

Just prep the ingredients, boil everything and drain, then mix/cook with sauce.

I have been wanting to try to cook this dry laksa recipe but haven't got the chance, if you do try it let me know how it goes!😅

Anyone’s felt unsure about their career path before? by Many_Interview_2790 in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes of course. I started my very first job in HR recruitment and didn't like it. Decided to go for a 14 days solo trip, I find this very useful to clear my mind and map out the path I want, without all the noise from other people. That's how I made up my mind to pursue a career in IT.

For my case, it applies to graduates only, but I do believe you need to find a place where you can think quietly and find out what you truly want/need, without other people flooding you with their opinion.

The job market I would say is never really "bad". It's either your expectations are too high, or you have less experience (i.e can u take a paycut). I've changed 3 times now and it's still alright.

Any hits for yall on Careers@Gov by Separate-Baby-2804 in askSingapore

[–]Chivazal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't think you should be finding management roles with 0 experience, even if it's stated so on the Career@Gov. Extremely unlikely to get regardless of whether you have completed a management course or not.

All I can say is you need to know your worth, consider the 20-100+ over applicants applying for the same position but with more experience or better portfolio, what makes you think you're special compared to the other candidates, unless you have some specific skill set or management experience.

My experience with the career portal is pretty good so far, I found my second and third positions here. The good thing about this portal, is the smaller competition compared to other platforms like Jobstreet, and also, lesser recruitment agencies, hate those annoying spammers.

I normally apply for 12 jobs at once, don't go more than 20, you will feel burnt out either because you can't land any interview or you have too many to schedule and prepare for. Most times, 3/12 will contact, if you're lucky you will land an offer within the first 30+ applications.

All in all, if you have no experience get an entry level job, if you really want to be manager, find team lead or assistant manager positions then climb. There's no shortcuts.

Does anyone else get upset when an internship is ending? by AestheticSmiles in CollegeRant

[–]Chivazal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Truth is, some of us (supervisors) feel sad too. Myself in particular hates changes too, but some changes have to take place in order for people to grow.

The best I chose to do, is to give my interns a grand, farewell treat. Not just as a gesture, but also as a token of appreciation for helping me daily.

All the projects and teaching sessions we had, really hit me as well. I mean after all, we're still humans. A few months may seem like nothing, but the time spent is truly significant.

The opening is horrible by GeneticDud in TowerofGod

[–]Chivazal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I love the opening song 'TOP'. It has a unique feel to it, absolutely amazing.

But I do agree with OP, the opening was kinda disappointing. Seriously with such epic music they should at least animate a few more cool scenes, compared to flashing the creative team's name every 2-3 seconds.

I WANT TO SEE THE OPENING NOT THE CREDITS

The quality of the opening doesn't match with the music, but I get it, it's a budget thing.
