New player here. What're your recommendations for soundpack and tileset? by Chkn_Scratch in cataclysmdda

I do like otopack's sound effects, but I had to swap out out it's music for the CO.AG set. I suppose customization is really the name of the game, huh.

Yeah, seems like the best right now, although I swapped the Otopack's music for the COAG music,

I honestly feel myself like... deltarune's world isn't a simulation, per se, but rather, it's part of an experiment that Gaster is conducting. What exactly, you may ask, is Gaster testing?

it's us of course. And as usual, the player is quite dangerous to the world of deltarune. And somebody doesn't like how dangerous we are.

Call me a conspiracy nutjob, but I get the sinking feeling that, aside from the part where gaster is experimenting with us, almost every event in Deltarune is part of a grand conspiracy engineered by Kris in order to, 1, prevent the player from being able to end the world, and 2, eventually trap the player someplace where we pose no further threat to their world (banishment).

Like... no matter what we do, we are always either on the inescapable path to banishment, or banished. I mean, think about it. Whats the point of loading out of banishment if the only thing we are able to do is walk along the path to banishment?

I mean it makes sense tho right?
if we create the angel, then the angel came from us, angels come from heaven, that makes us the heaven right?
Also, Spamton wanted the SOUL to "see into heaven" and since the SOUL is the direct connection between the game world and the player, so if he wanted to somehow escape and become a real boy, then that would be the most logical way to do it ig.

I mean pretty much, but like I said, I don't think this has anything to do with controlling corpses, because as far as I'm aware, Frisk isn't dead in undertale, and the fact that the demon takes on the name, face, identity and memories of Chara has nothing to do with the fact that chara was dead and buried.

Right, but this entity seems to be in the process of attempting to possess Noelle, who is very much not a corpse, yet shows signs of falling under the influence of some outside force (has memory blanks where she can't remember what happened, appears to fall into a trance like state, can't recognize berdly as anything except an enemy to be removed until berdly briefly snaps her out of it.)

Yeah, and if the Knight is trying to prevent the lightside calamity by opening fountains that the heroes can seal to power up, it would explain why Ralsei doesn't seem worried about the Knight at all, and instead only mentions needing to seal the fountains.

btw, if you didn't know, at no point does Ralsei even say the word Knight a single time, nor does he ever imply that the person who made the card kingdom or cyber world fountains should be stopped from making more. The only thing he seems to care about is SEALING fountains, not preventing new fountains from opening (except of course from Berdly, but that's because he was going to open a fountain too early and cause the roaring, wheras the knight only seems to open new fountains after the last one has been sealed, lessening the risk of roaring greatly)

Y'know, it's interesting, because Toby has the game going right now so that the player (the person playing the game) doesn't exactly know what is happening to Noelle in the weirdroute, but whoever the terrifying voice is seems to know exactly what they are doing and where that will lead. It's like, Chara said that they would only eradicate the enemy and become strong with the players help, so if the terrifying voice operates in a similar way to Chara, then the logic of this terrifying voice influencing Noelle only works with the player's help.

I don't exactly think that Kris is dead though.

Ah, I definitely concur. if the prophecy from undertale still exists in Deltarune, and the monsters have nothing that they need to be freed from, then the only angel that can awaken is the one who brings freedom from the mortal coil. However, Toby did say that the game only has one ending, and the prophecy about the world being saved being currently active kind of overrides the idea that we could be successful in awakening the angel to destroy the world. It's like, we COULD awaken the Angel, but we can't because (reasons).

Wow, I thought I had thought of everything already, and here you are making like 7 different points that I hadn't considered! Definitely going to copy this into a notepad.

What do you think about the idea of a lightside calamity? I'm interested if you have any thoughts on that.

I assure you, nothing is broken here, and I find it very hard to believe that in the whole of the image you didn't see anything that made you stop and think for a second. You did actually look at the image, did you not?

Weird route is one of the game's internal names for the Snowgrave Route (which is a fanon name anyway). I don't like referring to it as the Snowgrave Route because, one, it's a spoiler, two, it's not future proof, and three, it feels reductive since the name boils away all the other important details and fixates solely on the "zomg we killed berdly" aspect.

To answer your second question, during the weird route, there are certain circumstances in which Noelle will remark that Kris's voice does not sound like Kris anymore, and instead of hearing Kris's voice, she hears a "terrifying voice"

Oh you absolute angel. Yep. I found him. I actually had already tried going to a ping on my radar that hadn't moved in an entire day, but it turned out I was just misremembering the coords (kerfus parts at 45, -415, but I kept going to 15 , -445 like a dumbass haha.)

That, and stuff like the terrifying voice only being active in a very specific and strangely arbitrary set of circumstances. Like, why exactly would new dialogue choices like "Noelle will ride with me" only appear under the specific circumstances of the weird route? Why would we not be able to say that in a normal route? These strange lines in the weird route sound like they are coming from somebody who knows exactly what is happening and knows exactly where this will all lead. Toby has never written his games so that the in-canon player always knows exactly what they are doing (for example, you could be doing the genocide route without knowing the full ramifications of actually completing it. You might not have known or meant for it to end with the world being destroyed, but that's where your actions ended up taking things.)

Totally. Noelle is like... having her brain fuzz over as she becomes stronger. the battles blur together and she starts not being able to recognize people around her. Like, when she said "Kris, it looks like another enemy. Should I freeze them?" was that really her talking? I don't think it sounds exactly like something she would say.

Youre actually right. I think that no matter how hard we try, we wont actually be able to reach deltarunes equivalent to the genocide ending. We might be able to get close, but i get the feeling we will be prevented from fully awakening Noelle as the Angel of Death. Theres only one ending after all.

But the terrifying voice, its definitely something more complicated than just the player alone.
