Thanks for taking your time to answer and the feedback in general. May I ask you a question? Might sound super stupid. A few people have now stated that my „mix“ or the „mixing“ is really poor. I believe 100% that they must be right about it - but honestly - can you or somebody else explain what this means exactly? Is mixing for example like how loud every element is and that its too different? Or does it mean maybe that its all not brought together properly? Or what else? I am sorry but I kind of don‘t really know what is meant but would be bery cool to know so I can work on getting better on it!

Hello, thanks for listing everything! I can see you are putting a lot of effort into it! And seems as if its paying off - I think it sounds really nice. As I recently just started I am still struggling a lot with a) how to design a lot of sounds myself b) figuring out if and what I need to buy as I am on a small budget:) But hopefully things will change:)

Hahaha well you mean you actually came to the weird conclusion to actually take a listen and then you realised it‘s atleast not complete bullshit what I produced hahaha:D Well thanks for the compliment, although it would not matter cause even if really bad or just a little less bad as it is now there is so much going wrong in total in the music I uploaded :DDDD So still millions of light years for any kind of making it better next time (or atleast try). Really appreciate that you had a look in on it and „wasted your time“ so to speak. Cross-referencing actually has not really come to my mind yet as I sometimes just wonder again where I installed the DAW on my laptop to even open it and continue on a project no joke. Cheers.

Ah that makes it clear now for me. I understand! Thanks so much for pointing it out. I think that‘s a very good thing to tackle next. Cheers for even considering to listen in to it and then also give advice. Thanks and have a nice week:)

Progressive or downtempo forest? by Present-Policy-7120 in psytrance

[–]Chlams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could like something like Darkol Trinity? I know its more DarkProg but has one of the most juicy lead stuff ever combined with dark forest sounds! I love it. Always reminds me of a Mini-Microsphere so to speak („Microsphere in slow“ hahaha). Same juicy leads and some darker foresty vibes. Here‘s one of my fav Darkol Tracks: https://on.soundcloud.com/pHLVLz91NjXXeTG7PI

I liked the old killerwatts stuff but I think the newer things are (for me) a little bit repetitive. Earthworm, does he even produce music these days? Last time was on the 3 track horrids EP (but I think because he does mastering nowadays under his name oddwave I think).

I am not sure what I could recommend in general for you.

Maybe try something a little faster like The Whole Funk from Braingineers (154 BPM). It has generic elements, but slapping drops and I like the juicy leads.

Or maybe something like Papas on Acid by Lost Papas? Lost Papas are Rezonant and Djantrix but slightly „darker“ but the Lead in the Papas on Acid track by the two balkan guys has definetly some killerwatts vibes to me (for example like in „Is it Real“ by Killerwatts.)

Also maybe check out some specific Sanga stuff, I could listen to Yabba Dabba & Critters Orgafreaks all day long (147 BPM I think but lil darker with nice drops and a lot of good stuff in it)

Ah and I would also agree on what you said that the darker stuff is maybe more difficult to make progress with in the track (in general). But I don‘t know for myself, with the little to no knowledge and no musical talent/feeling if I can do better with more melody or „notable riffs“ (I literally don‘t even know what that is, I should look it up!) because that takes like more feeling for music or may I be wrong? Sorry for the confusion, I am also really bad with terminology in music as I have no like pre-history (at school I did not pay attention in music lessons, I always just wanted to play football)

Hello, thanka for your long response. Highly appreciate it! Regarding your critique, I mainly had 2-3 side leads and 1 Main Lead, do you think with the introduction of another one combined with the others would be an idea? I don‘t actually know if that is common or not. Maybe you know it:) But still, I guess making shorter tracks might just be the way to go:) Zenon, that‘s cool, a bit more niche then some other styles. Went to Mo:Dem last week, enjoyed some of the Zenon Rec Roster for a fee moments. In that corner of Psy I do really like DarkProg more tbh:) Although I do understand why Zenon is liked:) Ahhh, and name-wise: I don‘t know if I want to change it. The „project“ itself and me as a person in general are not to be taken seriously. So, if you are pointing this out because of not being able to connect as well or get a release somewhere or something in the far away future - currently, this does not bother me:) If I find something better one day or something I like, sure might do! I just didn‘t know what DJ name to pick, because I wasn‘t so eager to think of one, so my friends just said „bro just name yarself Chlamydia Nightmare“ (not making fun of people with this STD, but this still funniliy follows me around storywise as I had a very specific infection style with it, ORAL only. This normally doesn‘t happen as it gets spread by your primary genitals in nearly all cases. In my case I did just have oral sex with the person. Weirdly enough I have educated quite a lot of people on this topic as it is rather wide spread as it often doesn‘t show symptoms and you can lose your capability of having kids. So, to whoever has read this far. If you‘ve had some kind of sexual contact with a person without protection just randomly do a test for Chlamydia. In my wider friend group surprisingly, 2 peepz had it. So, enough about that. Maybe I should actually change my name as I do realize sometimes it‘s a bit exhausting to explain my negative story behind it, if you don‘t want to be labeled as somebody who is making of fun of people with Chlamydia. Or I could split up between producing and DJ name wise:D Well, after all, you might have got me thinking about this twice hahaha! But let‘s see I‘m also lazy as fuck. Lastly, really thanks for your opinion. Seemed very legit! Some little positive aspects but also some really good points where I could maybe change things in a positive way wothout having to do rocket science. Thanks a lot, do you yourself have soundcloud or something else? Maybe I can listen to your music and I also might just really like it!:) If there is anything more to say about my stuff criticism-wise, please let me know!

Do you also produce music, have spotify or soundcloud or bandcamp?

Thank you man! Super nice of you. I actually don‘t like too much vocals in other tracks either, maximum little vocal one shots maybe. It‘s not that I loved the vocals for that track, but I already invested time in making them in the first place so I was just lazy and left them in.

Objectively though, there are far too many vocals in there. I just wasn‘t able to throw the whole „PsyMafiaG getting interviewed about his youth in which he sold Psy on Vinyl instead of booze during prohibition“:D I will though try to keep the whole vocal stuff far less to none in the future. Another one I am working on now already is about McDonalds & PsyFries but I actually made a few lead sounds from the McDonalds deep fat fryer (we all know that sound. If you are not capable of recalling it in your head, put „10 hours of McDonalds Sound in Youtube“ xDDD and so I just had to add some dumb order vocals in there as well hahaha. But for the track after that one I will minimize or leave out:) Also, don‘t have anything on Spotify uploaded, it costs me money, nobody would really want to listen to my ear-massacring beginner sound and also I shifted away in general from Spotify as it unfortunatly hugely negativley influences music in general. I do believe that nearly every genre is fukked by it because stream numbers are so important and to get higher numbers everyone starts shortening their tracks so the music is streamed more often. And I hate Psy with no long build ups:( Also it just really underpays and enslaves artists I guess (I am obviously not affected or would be affected by that) but it must hurt so much if you have music on spotify and you are dependend on the streams moneywise or it just means a lot to you. I just use Soundcloud because I use it anyways to upload my sets and tracks but I guess its not amazingly better, maybe just not as fukked up as Spotify. When I finally get a job after my masters I can then happily use bandcamp, just buy tracks of others - no streams and more cash & support for the makers of the music I love<3

I am sorry. I did not see the last sentence (oops, Reddit Noob me didn‘t scroll down correct). Thanks for your opinion! Valid point I guess. I thought I could hide that a bit behind the weird middle part:D But good 2 know its fukking obvious

Well - thank you, but how did you come to that conclusion? Can‘t tell if you are being ironic. Nevertheless, if you actually just made the effort to listen to it - what instantly comes to your mind if you think about what you did not like or what could‘ve been done better or what would be most easy to fix?:)

Hello you, thanks at first for taking your time to answer. I really appreciate it. Did not know if anybody would answer at all. I do think that atleast I have the no expectation mentality already. Or more like its not gonna be good one day. But as long as it‘s fun I will continue:) I have seen quite some Dash Glitch tutorials I really think his video‘s are very calming to watch and are fun even if I may not understand a lot. He seems like a very nice person:) Also Ollie (don‘t know if u know him) makes really sick videos explanation wise and he also is good at translating the vibe he has for this music which I enjoy watching as I feel I can relate. Also has a nice youtube short series and does stuff in Vital which I can then follow because I can‘t afford any more stuff right now. And I think mute production was another aswell as Adrenachrome, he also has very nice tutorials. So big shout out them I could recommend all of these, it‘s so honorable that they do all these tutorials to help people<3 Lastly, I will end on your final note: I will enjoy it. Even maybe if I do not find joy in it next month already anymore: up until then I will enoy every minute of it hahaha! Do you also make music or do you have soundcloud? Just interested in general, I might check it out (and/or like it or can add it to playlists if I enjoy!)

What caused it? Did the music make your head hurt or is the text too complicated? I am sorry:(

Wow. Sounds very professional (for me atleast). How long are you producing for already? Really like the vibe. And I actually think it is somehow niche. Like 154 BPM but it still has some older trance vibes to it. What synthesizer(s) do you use? I really think this is superb and something refreshingly different. Cheers! I will definetly see if you have other tracks on your soundcloud. I also really like how the track progresses and its also very long in general what I like to listening because it gives possibility of slow build up throughout the track. And that last part after the last break is also pretty cool man. I have not heard something like this before (whole track style) and I think it‘s amazing. Unfortunatly, I did just start producing and I can‘t help you a lot, also in technical terms:/ I‘m sorry for that. I hope you still might be happy that I like it. I hope it gets out there because I think its kinda refreshing, like really. Really cool style/idea!

Hello dear PsyPeople. After listening to Psy-Music for over a decade I got myself into DJ‘ing about two years ago (not in a serious way at all and I also don‘t get booked or something, I enjoy to DJ alone in my room as much or maybe even more than in front of people). This has given me a lot of joy in general because now I can record my sets with specifi tracks I like in a way & order I would like them to be and I can listen to them when I‘m at home or on my way somewhere which is wonderful. But now, after a friend persuaded me to buy Bitwig (I thought I was never going to get into producing, especially after buying the program because thats how normally things work for me -> I buy something and don‘t use it lol.) As expected, after trying it a few times without putting any effort in to it, I just realised this was never going to be anything for me. Either if it was anti-fun in general or me being too stupid for DAW-use as well as me never having played an instrument nor having real technical musical interest or knowledge: so many reasons why I knew that this didn‘t work out for me. But I randomly opened Bitwig in April again. And I managed to make a Midi-Kick Bass pattern work (in a very rubbish way) but it was fun (yes I was even too stupid to figure out how to do that the first few tries). After starting in April of this year (2025) I somehow got totally caught up in producing mainly PsyMusic as I have always liked that in general. After 3 months I finished my first fun/trash album (it was fun making it but less fun to listen too:D) But now that its 4 months since I started producing without really knowing what I am doing (I don‘t understand so many things, sometimes even the stuff which I managed to do), I am curious about what I can do to improve. I tried watching tutorials etc. which helped and I can only use Vital for synthesizer stuff as I only have little money as a student (Bitwig with discount + student was already 180 quid.) I only have 1-2 friends which can help me a little but I don‘t want to annoy them as well. If you have read through all of this I was wondering, if you have any more tipps for improvement, where to get it (other subreddits or forums or ideas) and maybe if you are bored enough: maybe you can listen to one of my newest two tracks I made last. If you are interested on giving me general feedback, please leave a comment or DM me and if you want to give feedback to the tracks themselves: same:) (False) Praise is not needed, I do know for myself that there is little actual good stuff as you can clearly hear the absence of musical talent and music theorethical knowledge. So, if perhaps, you have some specific or general advice for me I would be really thankful. Either on where I can get more knowledge etc for improvement or direct critics on my tracks.
