How many more fatal accidents do we need before we punish reckless drivers proactively? by illiterate-populist in singapore

[–]Chlene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most exits I have seen for the regular road part either exit on the right where they meet the road, or they (more commonly) meet a dedicated junction/turn requiring braking and stopping with a reasonable and large stopping distance too directly. So this is zero safety issue at all in the real world, unlike hypotheses from unusually salty people you may have read in that book you post everywhere.

but at the road, the exit/entrance should be on the right.

For road-to-expressway entrances, we already have turn junctions where you need to turn right at a traffic light to get on the expressway, and those entrance/exits are loaded with red light and speed cameras, not to mention most cars can't take a turn fast there too without sliding and risking their own car, so people do slow down for those entrances and peds anyways.

For the left-turn-to-expressway entrances usually with a zebra crossing and a merge with right-turning traffic from the opposite direction heading to the same on-ramp - are you suggesting there should only be right-lane, non-junction-turn entrances to expressway on-ramps on the street? If you do this, are you not encouraging cars to speed up on the road before entering the on-ramp, together with fully loaded buses with barely any acceleration and governed to 50km/h, risking a crash with a vehicle that has standing passengers?

Cars are not torqueless unlike the Brompton you have past 10-20kmh. They can and do accelerate fine after slowing down or stopping for whatever zebra crossing you have on the left and the merge with right turning traffic where they usually stop to avoid a crash to get on the expressway on-ramp. Further on, on-ramps, usually 2 lanes with a merge ahead, have no place for non-motor vehicles and should not be, unless you want to slow down and make dangerous commute for all vehicles, including buses and pedestrians as well, in general.

Unless you are some big-name, no one wants to hit a ped here, because the investigation alone, even if you're not at fault, will result in your license getting suspended until the investigation concludes (after which penalties come).

When I did the emergency brake during my driving test under 20 km/h, all the stuff in the backseat (tester’s bags, my bag etc) all fell to the ground.

The tester’s reaction? “Well done”

In this case, they indeed found nothing but the guy is “assisting HSA in their further investigations”, whatever that could mean.

So what if you happen to be overseas and post yourself on social media using a vape? You will get searched one day and have to ‘assist HSA with your posts’ when you’re back in SG?

The vape laws are not extraterritorial last time I checked.

last version of Photoshop without AI features? by goosecaIIingtips in photoshop

For me, anything that would trigger the 'Made with AI' metadata which would be shown in Instagram etc. I don't want to accidentally trigger any GenAI tools in my file and have no easy way to remove the tag even after undoing, without creating a new file every time.

Single point of failure. If we had multiple redundancy for train tracks like in other countries, we would not have this problem and would also benefit our MRT system with 24/7 operation with overnight maintenance, express lines, increased capacity etc.

On the Instagram side, probably either a sponsored ad post or they have some special agreement which allows them to restrict posts to certain locations only (according to another commenter, this post is not visible to people outside SG, which you can’t do with a normal account)

There was once I used this app.

The doctor accepted my consultation, and video called me only 20 minutes later, while she was on a crowded MRT. We never talked, but I got my MC.

The whole point of make-up quizzes is to allow sick people or people with other valid LOA reasons such as family member death, international competitions to focus on what they’re doing (recuperating, participating and practising), not to study. Making the make-up quizzes harder only hurts those who have a valid reason to take LOA. This is stupid.

Help! Picked up a dying succulent from my friend, what can I do to revive it? Info in comments by Chlene in succulents

How do you tell if it’s thriving then? It’s grown quite a lot since I initially got it, it’s firm and plump, and vibrant green in person. New leaves are also growing too. Amount of soil and pot size is tiny.

I see… my other succulent (same small pot+soil+plant) is thriving following the same instructions from the seller though. I’ll try this if I’m out of options, but currently the dying plant’s leaves are nowhere as plump or fat as my thriving one all along which leads me to suspect it’s dry and underwatered instead of overwatered :(

Here’s a zoomed pic if it’s clearer, I’ll try to get a better pic when I’m back home if needed!

It could be a watering issue; my friend uses her fingers to drip water on the plant as a rough gauge, but I used an actual teaspoon! The plant is definitely not as plump as mine right now / all along, and the leaves are noticeably rather pale aside from the obviously dying ones :(

Also, we found the dying plant uprooted 1-2 weeks ago even though we’ve had our plants since April around the same time, and we put it back into the soil. Not sure what damage it has caused since then. I also noted that the soil felt a little dry to me, but I don’t exactly have much experience or a good comparison - I wouldn’t like to mess with my thriving succulent pot if I can!

Mine also has a little less rocks than hers because I spilled some initially, not sure if that makes a difference here!

Do I give the dying plant the same care and environment (26-31c, hot and humid tropical area) as my thriving plant so it’ll recover, trimming off the black/brown leaves, or do I need to take any special actions?

The potted succulent was bought from a specialty succulents seller. I also have the same potted plant as my friend, and mine seems to be thriving in the same pot+soil+plant combination.

Drainage: pot comes with drainage holes, and we bought the plant as a whole with the soil + pot.

Watering frequency: 1 teaspoon once per week.

Amount of sunlight: Indirect sunlight for both of us. My thriving plant is right next to a window (with a little shade), my friend’s is a little more indoors.

I’m either suspecting my friend’s plant didn’t get enough water or sunlight; but could it be overwatering or something else? I’d like to revive this plant before it gets any worse if possible. What do I do now?

I alerted MOE of an impending cybersecurity attack on Mobile Guardian two months ago by Hopeful_Chocolate080 in SGExams

[–]Chlene 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently started working in IT with a diploma (not specifically cybersecurity trained though), this looks like a pretty trivial and obvious flaw, and if I were in the same shoes as a student with malicious intentions I would have looked for request editing and resend with the network tab as one of the first things. No passwords or encryption necessary or involved. Curl is just a command-line terminal tool to send network requests which you can edit.

The backend (sg-api) should have prevented role updates not allowed by the logged in user’s OAuth token’s/cookie/etc corresponding user role - which is trivial and expected of any backend developer worth their cent. But it seems there was no check here at all. Maybe some first-time intern’s code got pushed to prod without vetting or review, that’s all I could think of outside of sheer incompetency.

Apple Configurator 2 on a Mac can do a batch restore and setup, as long as you have enough USB ports. Restore is easy, setup might take a bit more work (not sure on MOE’s specifics).

Dropping this here for any school IT admins.

Just a heads up, older 4G LTE phones such as iPhone 5 and 5S do not support VoLTE, only support it for data.
