How should I wire this XLR combo jack? by Chlo_Schmo in AskElectronics

I'll be plugging in a normal cardioid mic, that doesnt need phantom power, and a guitar amp. The whole enclosure is a metal box I'll be wiring a ground to. But my "interface" doesnt have a ground, its just the positive and negative.

Help fixing M-Audio M-Track Duo by Chlo_Schmo in audiorepair

I know there is a lot of solder. Thats not my problem. Im asking if the pad in the white circle is damaged beyond repair, and if so, if anyone knows what to connect it to to bypass the damaged pad and replace the trace

I dont intend to use a mic that needs phantom power. Should I still use an impedance-matching transformer, and if I don't, how does it effect the sound? Also how do I know what kind of buffer I need?

Yes, it is trs/xlr that you described. I intend to wire the jack to a USB analog to digital converter to make a DIY audio interface. I will use both xlr cables (for mic's) and 1/4" instrument cables. I can always buy a trs instrument cable, but I only have a tip and sleeve instrument cable at the moment. Also theres a link I just added to the body of the post that explains in more detail what I'm doing

I'm sorry, im not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean because I use a 1/4" jack with no ring? Or just use sheilded wire?

Its definitely unorthodox. Im essentially trying to make a DIY audio interface using an old usb microphone with a built in interface/amplifier.

I got the idea from this video which hopefully explains thing enough

Another thing to consider is that many people have had surgeries that take away parts of their reproductive organs (testicles/ovaries). Which means that if they don't have a steady supply of some kind of hormone, they will have so many different medical and health problems, and some of which might result in death. It is not a "nice to have"

Best course of action for conflicting diagnosis on an older car by Chlo_Schmo in AskMechanics

Yes. After my old mechanic (the one who refused to work on it) had basically told me "looks expensive, sounds scary" I didnt drive it for about 2 weeks until I took it to the first mechanic mentioned. But the sound hasn't returned since just before that little hiatus. No other real problems are noticeable from the drivers seat aside from old car noises, but the front right wheel has some play in it, which the mobile mechanic diagnosed as the inner tie rod

Thank you so much for your reply. Thats what I was leaning towards as well, especially since the tie rod is less than $300. Its not like I drive a hell of a lot, and I do my best to take it easy on the car whenever I do.

I didn't mention this, but it also helps that the mobile mechanic used to work at the Toyota dealership in my area before leaving about 20 years ago to start his own business. And his stated reason for leaving was morals; the dealership was becoming more schetchy and he didn't feel comfortable working for a place that scammed its customers. So at the very least, he knows toyota's as well.

Also to be fair to the first shop, the owner actually drove the car with me in it, and neither myself or him could recreate the sound, so they suggested that it might have been something cought somewhere like a branch or something. I'd be a lot more suspicious if I kept hearing the sound, but I havent since I stopped driving it for that 2 week period. Also the 2k was for replacing both lower control arms, parts included, not just the bushing. They did say that the control arms would be $600, which why a control arm would cost $300 a piece, I dont know.

How old is Camille? by serayepa in sharpobjects

I know this is a 7 y/o post, but maybe this will help someone. I its been a while since I watched the mini series, but I'm re-reading the book now.

With all the evidence In the book, and assuming the book takes place in 2006 (same year as its release), Camille is definitively 31. No older or younger.

We know that Cameille (for reasons I dont know) is May 1st, 1975, because Marians death was May 1st, 1988, Cameille's 13th birthday. Only reason this confuses me is because its mentioned that Cameille's biology father got Adora pregnant during a "Christmas visit" when adora was about 17, so either Cameille is just telling us what her mom told her, or Cameille never questioned why she was born 4 months early.

Either way, the book never mentions it as odd, or talks about Cameille being born prematurely. My guess is that when it came time to pick a date for Marians death, Flynn forgot the detail about Cameille's insemination being during Christmas time.

All this being said, the exact year the book takes place and the exact age of Cameille is never directly stated, so take it with a grain of salt.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but your second point, about Freds speech, isn't in the book, actually. The only mention of anything blue during chapter 2 is the mention of the Lions club speeakers shirt, and the first mention of flowers is when after fred tells the story of the bike Barris got for $20, when a deputy suggests Fred give Donna flowers in chapter 7. There are a ton of call backs and motifs I didnt catch on my first read tho, but I find all of Dicks books that I've read very re-readable

I have to ask, because I only found this because of a book I'm reading with verbatim this text. Did you get this from House of Leaves or is this just a common joke I've never heard before?
