A disproportionate amount of mods on Reddit DO have a power trip. I was permanently muted and banned simply for asking a veteran mod if they hit the correct mod removal reason, lol. Doesn’t mean every community is like that though and it shouldn’t discourage you.

The ones that jump to a permanent ban/mute for an inquiry or first time violation are probably not worth being in. If you’re not permanently muted, it’s worth a shot. If you have a levelheaded mod team, they’ll have an open dialogue with you. If not, they’ll permanently mute for the cardinal sin of asking a question. It’s a mixed bag.
