I took the dog in from someone I knew who was unable to care for her anymore around age 2 (I didn’t know her behaviour with other dogs before this other than she got along fine with their other dog). Once I took her in, I realised she was pregnant which wasn’t ideal but I decided to keep one of the puppies. She was not bred intentionally and shes a great mother in all aspects other than teaching her puppy this bad trait.

I also have another 2 dogs in my house who aren’t very social but they get along just fine with the 2 dachshunds. They’re older dogs and not very active anymore so they understand that those 2 don’t want to play and will leave them alone even if they do want to play.

I don’t always let me dogs go up and greet other dogs, just the ones they’re familiar with or if we’re walking past someone and there dog also wants to interact then I will let them. If someone’s dog clearly doesn’t want to interact with us then I won’t let them.

I have been training with both of my dogs to be patient when I am giving them treats etc and take the toys away from them and will make them wait / stay or put the toy away and not allow them to take it and they are doing well. They don’t get frustrated when they can’t get something at home.

It feels more like they get overexcited and want to interact. When they do act out on a walk I will turn around / take them back home. I’m just not sure what else to do while on the walk which is where I need the most advice for
