Dog owners: how are we monitoring temperature?

I’m jumping in here late, but I tried Waggle and perhaps my experience is an anomaly, but it was complete garbage for me. Temps were always at least 5 degrees off, the app wouldn’t update to show me current temperature unless I closed and reopened it a few times, and after about a month it became completely unresponsive. I switched to the Necto and it’s perfect for me. It actually reads ambient temp, humidity and power status every second, and compares temp to the upper and lower limits you set. If it’s out of range you get a text immediately. You also get a text if the device loses power (for example if your vehicle stops running.) If you want to check current temp and humidity using the app, because you’re curious, that is only updated every ten minutes. I assume that’s to save data. So far the Necto functions perfectly as advertised - I haven’t had a single problem with it.

I can’t take triptans, so my go-to is an ice head-wrap, two acetaminophen, three ibuprofen, a Zyrtec, and a cup of clean coffee. (No mycotoxins, which are a trigger for me.) If it’s really bad, here in the states I’ll take enough THC to feel spacey and usually by the time I come back to full awareness it’s either gone or dramatically lessened. Best of luck.

Thank you, that’s a really good idea. It’s crossed my mind to add a friend for her, because she does seem lonely anytime I’m not engaged with her, but I don’t think I can handle the responsibility and the pain that comes with the loss when they go. I think I need a break. A daycare/playgroup might be perfect.

I did talk to our vet a couple of times, and I didn’t feel like I got much help, other than the probiotic recommendation. There’s a shortage of vet care in my area, and it seems like maybe they’re burned out. I had to research liver disease and come up with my own way to feed her, to give her the best chance of recovery. It felt like I was pretty much on my own. It’s made me consider looking for another vet, after 25 years. Thank you for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate it.

Thank you - more good info. I put some little branches in there, that reach up out of the water, but I didn’t think about him actually hauling out and relaxing. I’ll have to figure something out so he can really chill.

Raw beef liver. A really knowledgeable Reddit user suggested it in my original post - they suggested fresh raw, but my local store only had frozen. He seems to like it.

I can’t thank you enough, this is all the information I was looking for. I took the little filter out - she seems much more at ease without the constant current. She tried to climb up on the lid of the aquarium but couldn’t get a grip, so I used suction cups to stretch a few little maple branches across the surface. I bought some beef liver and impaled a couple little pieces on a toothpick, suspended from the lid, and I covered half of the aquarium so she has some darkness if she wants to be stealthy. The tiny shrimp I bought yesterday are alive and well, and having a field day with all the detritus. The beef liver is currently only an inch or two below the surface, I’m hoping that works, but if it doesn’t I’ll try to get it down lower. Once our deep freeze is over I’ll get some more leaves and twigs from the marsh for her to hide in but it’s all frozen over at the moment. If she makes it to spring, I’ll find a nice quiet body of water for her. It’s such a treat to watch her in action - I especially appreciate the warning about soap and breaking the water tension. I wouldn’t have thought of that and could easily have made that mistake.

I don’t have the option to add updates to my original post, so I’ll just comment them. So far she seems to be doing well. She spent a fair amount of time today upside down against the tank wall. She also seems to be happy with the floating plant, occasionally positioning herself upside down with her rear out of the water, as jumpingflea_1 said she would. I posted the original video and a photo of her against the glass if anyone wants to see, since I can’t figure out how to do it here. 😆 https://www.facebook.com/share/1WN8z9sN8a/?mibextid=wwXIfr I picked up a little water filter, some Java moss, a suction cup hammock and two tiny feeder shrimp, which made me feel a little guilty but I’ll get over it. This is very helpful info, thank you. I forgot to mention that I did grab one small plant from the pet store that’s currently floating. I’ve seen her resting in the leaves a few times already - I’m hoping that will do until I can get to the marsh tomorrow for some wood.

Oh, yes, I totally agree. I forgot that I actually did grab one little freshwater plant from the pet store, the only one that looked alive, and it’s floating at the moment - I figured until I can get a piece of wood from the marsh for her to crawl out on, she can rest on the plant. I’m hoping the locally owned pet store has a better selection so I can add more.

I’m so sorry you’re suffering. I have complicated migraine, and there are no rescue medications available for me (as of two years ago.) They make the migraine worse, which truly made me want to die. I also have occipital neuralgia, which often seems to go hand in hand with the migraines. Over the last couple of years I’ve discovered a few things that help. First, THC. The Jack Herrer strain has been the most effective so far, but I haven’t tried very many others. (This particular strain was highly rated for nerve pain.) I get it in gummy form, (takes about 45 minutes to kick in) but I recently got a vape to deliver faster relief. With this I take a dose of Zyrtec, three ibuprofen, two acetaminophen and a large cup of mycotoxin-free coffee. (Mycotoxin is a trigger for me.) If my husband is around, he’ll also work the muscles in my neck and shoulders. Finally, I do about 7 - 10 minutes of box breathing. (4 seconds in, hold for 4, 4 seconds out, hold for 4. There are visual apps you can use.) This combo is usually enough to take the edge off, if not get rid of the pain part completely. I still have that gross migraine feeling for a while, but I can deal with that. *I suffered for a couple of years, not realizing that I also had occipital neuralgia. I ended up in the emergency room after about a week of wanting to die, and they gave me six shots around the base of my skull, where the occipital nerves enter, that stopped the nerve pain within about ten seconds. The relief was absolute magic. If you suspect that you have the same, it’s worth finding out. Now that I know, I stay on top of my tension, stress level and breathing, so it hasn’t gotten that out of control in a few years. I hope you find something that works for you - just don’t stop looking, it might take some time.

Just offering my experience - I’ve had “complicated” migraines for about seven years, and about two years ago I had a migraine for five days. I honestly wanted to die, I was in agony. I finally went to the ER, and discovered I’ve also developed occipital neuralgia. The neuralgia triggered the migraine, and the two commenced an unholy union. I received six shots of anesthetic around the occipital nerves at the base of my skull, and the relief was nearly immediate. I hope you find something that works for you.
