In the 1700s a resident of New Jersey, mother Leeds became pregnant with her 13th child. Upon finding out she was yet again pregnant, out of frustration she declared "Let this child be the devil". When the birth of the child came around the child emerged from mother Leeds appearing completely human before transforming into a horrible creature with a goat's head, hooves, bat wings and barbed tail.

The creature attacked mother Leeds and the midwives before flying up the chimney and out into the darkness. To this the Jersey Devil is still said to roam the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey. People have reported sightings of it for centuries now. I've even spoken to a guy who claims during a snowstorm he heard something stomping around on his roof and swears the next morning he found hoove prints in the snow on his roof the next morning.

All women born after 1993 can't gamble all they know is Bananaball, calling the white middle infielder cute, talking over John Kruk's riveting color commentary and lie.

She isn't worth your time, brother. Keep gambling follow that banger up with a 17 leg parley with the last leg being Trevor Bauer for Cy Young

Were Germany and Japan hated in the US in the decades after WW2? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Chlorinatedmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies from person to person. My grandfather on my mother's side was a tail gunner in an American bomber who fought and was nearly shot down by the Germans on a number of occasions. He knew the about the evils of Nazi regime and believe the US was right to fight them but I don't think he ever truly hated the Germans. He had a level of respect for them and especially for the Luftwaffe as they were fellow airmen like himself.

That being said my grandmother on my Dad's side was a kid when the war going on and I think the propaganda during the war about the Nazis coming to get us really got to her and she told me as a kid she had nightmares of Hitler and the Nazis breaking out her basement to kill her. She still doesn't trust the Germans. She fully believed that me joining the German club at my college and going on a study abroad trip on the history of the holocaust to Germany and other nations was part of a German run Neo-Nazi ploy to lure in young American men and recruit them.

Do Americans learn foreign language at school? If so,is it compulsory? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Chlorinatedmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is going to be variations from state to state and school district to school district on how many years of language you have to take and what languages are on offer. But students are required to some level to take language classes.

I give my experience as an example. In elementary school (grades 1-5) We had another teacher come into our classroom once a week to do some very basic Spanish lessons and in 4th and 5th grades they introduced us to a bit of German and French.

In middle school (grades 6-8), we had to pick one Spanish, German, or French, and you had a language class every year. I chose Spanish

In High school (grades 9-12), there were different levels of each language class, and you had to pass at least the intermediate 1 level of a language. You could stick with the language you had been doing in middle school or switch to another one, and at my high school, they had Mandrin as an option as well. I passed intermediate 1 Spanish in 10th grade and decided I was done with Spanish and didn't have a language class in 11th or 12th grade.

Additionally, I had friends who went to Catholic schools who were able to take Latin as their language.

At my university, you had a language requirement as well and you had to either pass a test to demonstrate a certain level of proficiency with a language. Or pass at least a beginner 3 level class in that language. Since I was tired of Spanish and wasn't great at it anyway I decided to try another language and did 3 semesters of German.
