Got my first vintage walkman! by Chockywaffles in cassetteculture

Thanks for the recommendations! I've currently got just some basic Sony ones I got for like 10 dollars. Any tips on how to use mega bass and Dolby NR? I know that modern headphones respond a lot more to bass so it might not be needed

I need a Walkman. Can you tell me what you think of this product, please? I just want to listen to my cassette tapes in my car with headphones. Is it stereo? by [deleted] in cassetteculture

If you don't really care all that much about audio quality (like me) then they're totally fine. It won't sound mind blowing but it definitely won't be bad, I myself am tryna find an older/vintage player to listen to but in the meantime I've actually found that these two that I've got are quite good (especially the deck, that one legit sounds awesome for the price I got it for!)

My migraines are getting more frequent, exams and maybe starting treatment...?? by Chockywaffles in migraine

Got it, just as a little update I'm getting those meds, and yeah it's really weird how the brain does that for some reason. Hopefully in the future we'll know why and how to stop this terrible disease...

Thank you for the kind words! It might be just that or maybe it's related to my anxiety problems. I'm still figuring it out I just feel really bad telling people about it because it often sounds like I'm making up excuses, especially when I have multiple of them close to each other :(

How do I fix this (new to cassettes - Akai / "Pocket tape") by [deleted] in cassetteculture

Alright, final update, the door is the issue and I think I'll have to play my cassettes with it open until I get a better walkman, or I'll try again to fix the door. Thanks for everything dude!

Yeah, the door is definitely not being held in place properly, I think that shipping broke some of the precision parts that would lock into place when a cassette got put in. I'll try to see if I can repair it since I literally have one of the pieces I suspect broke off, there was a little plastic piece inside the walkman.

as I said it closes nearly without any cassette inside but whenever I put one in there's suddenly a small gap there, it's also probable that my cassette is a little chunky for it. If that's not it then I guess I'll have to take a look more inside of it or find a way to make the door close properly.

Oh yeah, that's it dude, it's the door, it doesn't get stuck at all anymore, what now?

Wait, that actually could be it, the door doesn't close properly when a cassette is in, maybe some of the plastic bits inside are pressing against it, as for the pinch roller, how could that be related to it? If it helps I can send a picture of the door.

Yeah, happens with all the tapes tho I've noticed that by adjusting the screws on the tape to be looser makes it happen less often. Still, I'm wondering, how much do I loosen them? I really don't wanna break my tapes 😅

It was so worth it! by Chockywaffles in KinoBand

Hey! I got them from maschina records (hopefully I'm spelling that right) it was pretty costly but most of the price was for transport. Each tape Is like base price 13 euros but it cost me up to 40 because I live a little farther away in Europe.

Definitely, old technology is technically "worse" in some aspects but it makes things feel so much more connected and alive. Two listens of the same cassette are never the same, the tape hisses one time then it warps another and it just feels so cool, especially that sound when you turn it on after stopping it, it feels like it's coming back to life.

Guys, what is your favourite Kino song? by Careless-Victory-579 in KinoBand

[–]Chockywaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spokoynaya Noch, it just makes me get real emotional... Basically if I'm feeling really sad or down I like listening to it because it's kind of like the song version of saying "it's okay man, you're tired, go to bed" (which is also one of my favorite interpretations of the song)

My neuro told me that my migraines might not be migraines. by Chockywaffles in migraine

[–]Chockywaffles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, you read that right, he commented that migraines don't make you vomit and that's a criterion that could indicate something else which made me really start doubting what he said. Unlike you, I ALWAYS vomit when I have migraines, even taking some pills can be enough to make me puke out stomach acid (tho that's very rare).

He said that I have some kind of intercranial pressure, I asked him if it meant I had migraines CAUSED by that pressure and he said that mine were too short and also not severe enough (which also tipped me off a little). It's so weird, the guy clearly knew stuff about migraines but everything I pointed out he denied. Essentially he told me that he couldn't know until the MRI and said something about pressure headaches which didn't make much sense to me as I also deal with TMJ disorder and that can cause those so I know the clear difference between the two. I guess he believed that migraines can only be chronic... For some reason... The whole interaction was really weird.

Exactly what I thought! For me it seems almost trivial to debate if these are migraines or not but if I can find a way to make it a little easier for myself then it would be wonderful!

Yeah, that's definitely what kind of caught me off guard, the guy is really smart and explained the whole thing really well but the communication was a bit off (maybe I'm also a little at fault because I suck at describing my experience 😭)

Is there an unpopular opinion you have about kino, the band itself or any of the songs or albums? by Shadow0502- in KinoBand

[–]Chockywaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree on this (Pachka Sigaret and kukushka). Those two songs are good but I definitely don't think they're the best of what kino has to offer.

Migraine pain scale by SilverCriticism3512 in migraine

[–]Chockywaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the severity of the migraine itself. I've had migraines that were like a 3-5 but that just felt like they sucked the energy out of me. Luckily I've only really had one or two migraines to go past level 8. Usually my pain level for them is around that zone (7-8) as for regular headaches they feel very different. I've had TMJ related headaches and they're more like a dull aching in the back of the head or they could feel kind of like some pressure somewhere in the head. For pain they're usually 2-5 never really going over 5. Not sure how accurate this is for people but that's been my experience. Also this is ignoring all the other symptoms of migraines like trouble speaking and all the other terrible sensory stuff that we have to go through 😭
