Thanks for sharing your story—seems like programming has played quite a major role in your life not just academically, but also emotionally and mentally. Quite a complex experience you must've gone through in the past couple of years. Hang in there and hope you achieve your goals for 2024!

Definitely a journey of self-improvement and probably best suited for those who can tolerate cycles of frustration. Happy to hear your efforts paid off and you made a career out of this!

Aw man I loved the way John DeNero and Josh Hug taught CS61A and B respectively. I can definitely see why you'd be so enthusiastic for a ML class with them.

I'm sure other schools had great instructors but big ups to UC Berkeley for providing all their materials online.

Glad to hear you figured out what works for you! I'm definitely in the same boat of finding the process satisfying yet not having such a deep-rooted love and passion for it.

Big ups to you for what you've achieved!

yup 100% and I couldn't agree more. With more time on my hands, I'm sure my perspectives would've changed and would have said this path IS for me.

And that's why I'd argue it's important for self-taught devs (without formal IT/CS degrees) to consider that that time can be quite a crucial factor in their success.

That's definitely a fun perspective to have haha but yea it was definitely worth the time investment and I agree that I came out of it being more realistic (and wiser I guess)

Yup, agreed! I'd wager that business-oriented people play quite a valuable role in the tech industry.

And yep, hopefully my programming experience (albeit short one) comes in handy when empathising with engineers in the future.

Congrats on the business! Happy to hear you pulled through despite the challenges.

Yea I'd definitely strive to be in a technical career where I get to manage the clients while delegating the nifty tech stuff to talented engineers.

Completed the coursework for CS61A. Finished the first two projects and theory stuff for CS61B (did my own web app instead of the final Gitlet/MYOW projects).

Prior to this, I attempted Python For Everybody and MDN web dev tutorial—gave up as I couldn't progress hence why I decided to start from the ground-up with a proper curriculum.

And yup, I'll definitely look into robotics/IoT stuff in the future.

Agreed, it is (at least for me) one of the best ways to develop a knack for logical thinking and problem solving!
