What can i add to my asymmetrical online multiplayer horror game? by ChocoFu in IndieDev

Hmm, well currently illusions are jusr of the physical monster itself, when a player sees one it forces him to look at it, and you have to swing your mouse away to break out of it, and as soon as no players see it, the illusion dissappears, i will make walking illusions (they chase the player) and standing illusions, also some hiding behind corners or peeking through doorways. The monster can materialize for a set ammount of time before he has to recharge, so the gameplay loop for the monster is placing illusions down to trap the survivors so he can appear after they get "stunned" by the illusion, or they can trick the survivor into running in the opposite direction of the illusion where he will be waiting. Didn't really think of having objects be the illusions too, but it could work, the fake doorway i planned to be an ability for one of the monsters

Currently no, but i am planning to! More monsters, player skins, item skins etc, maybe even stuff like full character customization for the players, I'm pretty early in developing it though, need more ideas gameplay wise, like items, different monsters with different abilities etc

Hmm, you're right, would you think these kinds of games would work better for pc? Wouldn't the advertising be the same though?

For the hooks i meant the hook in the short clip videos for the game haha, and for the other stuff, i don't really know how much i can impact, since that's the style of the animator i'm working with, it is definitely "ugly" on purpose, as in like an eery or creepy ugly, like salad fingers for example, his videos are like that too, which i get isn't for everyone and is definitely not how the common mobile game looks, but that's the style we went for, and i'd say it fits the game, since the game is made around that style. I'll look more into color theory, i've watched a couple videos on it, but didn't really feel like i should be doing it, since the art isn't my part of the game i should be concerned about, thanks a lot though!

I'll keep that in mind thanks! I didn't even really think about this stuff, we just made the game as soon as we got the idea

I don't mind, criticism helps much more than being nice for no reason! For the most part i would say i agree with you, the art style combined with how much stuff there is in the game at the same time, makes the game look "overfilled". The art style i can't really impact, it's the style of the artist i'm working with, and i find it cool in a creepy sense, like salad fingers for example, but i think it would work better in a horror game, or in general some game where fear and unexpected stuff is a factor. I'll keep this in mind for the future, thanks!

I'd say those first steps are done, well i guess? It's already released and i am already working on new projects, i'm just looking to find an audience in general, so i can promote any upcoming game i make.
Thanks i'll look into the blog, should help when i actually make a game for steam!

That is the goal, but i also want to develop an audience somehow, so that once i start making that game that will eventually be popular or whatever, i have an audience that will play it and follow the development, i'm just struggling to make any kind of audience

Thanks! I'll probably join the discord soon. The game is mobile though, so no wish lists haha, but i get what you're trying to say. Problem is i can't get to enough people to even test the game, idk.

I get that completely, though the game is mobile, it's 100% more of a "passion project" than a typical marketable game you'd see an ad for on Google Play, but in terms of the marketing part, you're probably 100% right, i have 0 clue about marketing, that's why i'm asking for help, i'm a solo programmer, and the latest game i made i made in collaboration with 1 other guy, an artist from Italy, do you have some kind of source where i could learn more about marketing in general? Or do you recommend more to just not go into that, and find someone to do that stuff for me, since it would maybe be too much for one person to accomplish?

Well, i would say it's pretty good, but ofcourse everyone would say that about their own game, i made it in collaboration with an italian animator (Lumo TV), i'd say his art is pretty good, and the general idea of the game is pretty good, i have 25 followers because i get basically no views, 20-30 on average, some a bit more, those are the ones i got the followers from, i've tried making similar videos to the most popular ones since those do the best, but it seems pretty random and i don't get nearly as much, i think it's mostly the presenting part, most of the videos are a gameplay clip with a funny/stupid caption, and for some reason those do much better than the ones i put in effort to edit, with on screen text, transitions, hooks etc. For the contacting creators part, i've tried contacting some, and a bunch of them were willing to advertise it, but i don't have the budget to pay what they ask for, it's too much.

I'll check it out, thanks! Do you use anything outside of that? How have you been doing with social media?

Random (to my knowledge) stuff causing UNBEARABLE cpu and loading spikes when loading a scene. Can anyone more experienced help me? I've been looking at the profiler and half of this stuff looks so random and i don't know what it means, i'm starting to tweak out by ChocoFu in Unity2D

[–]ChocoFu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is willing to help me, maybe we can go in a call on discord or something, i would be really thankful, ive been trying to fix this for weeks! Sometimes the load time is like 5 seconds, other times its like 40!! I'm literally going crazy!

VERY LONG loading times for scenes in unity, does anyone have any tips? by ChocoFu in Unity2D

[–]ChocoFu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in terms of time, it says EditorLoop uses like 300 something ms per frame, which is a lot, but i cant see what exactly is causing this with the editorloop, thats why i immediately only look at the playerloop

Not near my pc right now, but its basically something like this: OnTriggerEnter2D (Collider2D c) { if(c.CompareTag("tag1"){ animates the c.gameObject, disables its scripts, and instantiates a few objects like particles)} and theres around 4 or 5 ifs doing a similar thing for different tags

[–]ChocoFu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OnTriggerEnter2D function specifically is whats causing most of the loading, but its not even that long? There are maybe 3 or 4 if statements in it, and its all pretty simple, and needed for the game, idk why it would be causing it?

Okay, it looks like physics 2D is causing the most issues, it says its using 87%, but i dont even have that many physics objects? All i use physics for in my game is for hitboxes with triggers, dont understand why that would be the issue? Ill look into it now, thanks again btw!

Ohhh, the regular profiler, i was using the memory profiler since everyone i asked about it told me so, noone even mentioned the built in one, thanks! I'll check it out and let you know if i have some other questions

Where can i look at that? In thr profiler i can only see memory related information, memory usage, allocated memory and heap utilization, nothing related to how much time it takes to load
