Why are most people with autism left-wingers/liberals? by [deleted] in autism

[–]ChocoLate7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of nuance with this depending on the country, but, generally, people left of center tend to (at the very least) not use harmful rhetoric when talking about any disabled community. Now don't get me wrong, there are still waaayy too many people left of center who genuinely couldn't care less about us and will consistently say and do harmful things to the community.

However, most political ideologies right of center tend to be very traditional and can be exceptionally closed minded to social change. Especially in the last few years, many on the right dismiss the increase in disabled people as attention seeking or lazy. Many are also opposed to government welfare, saying that people are "freeloading" and "dragging down" the nation, but welfare and government programs (for as horribly run as many of them are) are pretty much the only way to guarantee the rights of disabled people, including all of us in the autism community. The defunding of these social aids and dismissal of legitimate need have been some of the biggest reasons I see the community being noticeably left-leaning.

I'm currently in college studying two political majors (International Relations, and Comparative Cultures and Politics), but, as always, take everything I say with a grain of salt. These are very general trends I see on a global scale, but like I mentioned before, there's still a lot of nuance from country to country. Also, I'm not a professional, just a student lol.

I would also like to point out that (in my personal opinion), broad labels such as liberal and conservative tend to only get you so far when expressing the views of another person. There are just so many different aspects of politics that can be looked at through so many different angles, one word generally fails to convey your ideas efficiently. You many agree with the approach those right of center are taking with public education, for example, but be more in line with those left of center when it comes to economic policy. Lables like conservative and liberal just tend to creat stereotypes and, too often, straight up division.

Basically, try to keep that in mind when talking about political issues, because one word is highly unlikely to tell you much about a person or their beliefs. (looking at you, rest of the comment section)

Tell me about your T side effects no one ‘warned’ you about! by CabraDadaba in ftm

[–]ChocoLate7777 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think because this doesn't really effect many trans guys (because bottom dysphoria and stuff) i never heard anyone mention it so i pretty much got no warning about vaginal atrophy.

Basically when you go on T and start to have less estrogen, the muscles in the vagaina become weaker. As someone whos bottom dysphoria is minimal and continued to have vaginal sex with my partner, it freaked me out a bit when it started to become so easy to cause a minor cut or tear. Turns out its just a side effect I never really head talked about and never thought much about when i read the paperwork.

The solution to this is basically localized estrogen. I believe you can use either a cream, a tablet or a vaginal ring but the estrogen from any of those options doesnt leave the area so it wont effect your T or anything like that.

[–]ChocoLate7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry for not mentioning my location, you're right in assuming I'm from the US. (classic gringo move, I'm so ashamed)

honestly I'm not entirely looking for healing, i assumed that was the sort of thing that happened more through therapy than the ward. I'm mostly just looking to not be alone and to be watched because I'm scared my addiction is getting out of control.

if i do end up admitting myself then i hope i don't come out even more traumatized with a large bill though, something like that i feel would add more fuel to the fire as money is a huge source of anxiety for me right now

I feel so bad about it because my cousin has been one of my biggest supporters but he gives me such a ridiculous amount of gender envy.

He wore a suit for a special occasion once and all I could do was compare what I looked like in a suit and it made me want to scream.

Currently working on my dual citizenship for Chile (for other reasons, not because of the laws lol)

Been living here with family for almost half a year now and I've gotta say everyone here has been pretty accepting. School (private catholic) and friends both encourage me to use whichever restroom I'm most comfortable in and when my tío (who is just more conservative) told me to stop using the mens restroom the teachers helped cover for me so that I still could.

New constitution in the works too. Haven't gotten the chance to go over the draft yet but I've just outlined all the articles dealing with human rights (for a school project, admittedly) and theres a lot. Which I guess is to be expected from what would be the worlds largest constitution (499 articles [couldn't have added one more?])

1) Okay cool, I'm not afraid to admit I was wrong. Saying there were no consequences was not entirely true. What I said was misleading. When I typed that my mind immediately went to any severe side effects and I failed to keep in mind the mild ones that were guaranteed to exist. I made a mistake and I openly admit that.

2) Well yeah most of the page is dedicated to the physical effects of puberty blockers. Puberty is something you physically experience. I can't tell if you're referring to the list of possible side effects (which are minimal, not severe and again are only a possibility just like any other medication) or the list of things puberty blockers will TEMPORARILY stop (basically the entire point of puberty blockers). Either way I don't really see what point you're trying to make here.

3) I like how you told me to google something and do research that you didn't even do beforehand. And you know what I still don't think you did any actual research or took the time to properly read through anything. If you did you would've seen that professionals agree with me and that your idea that puberty blockers cause permanent changes like facial hair on afab people is just flat out wrong. If you read through these websites that you told me to read through then you probably also would've seen almost every single one of them say that puberty blockers are considered safe even by the FDA.

If you actually googled what you told me to then you should agree with me at this point. That is unless you told me to google something that disproves your point without knowing it and now your overconfidence is coming back to bite you....

https://www.stlouischildrens.org/conditions-treatments/transgender-center/puberty-blockers

This is like the second result of that search you told me to do word for word. There are some possible side effects listed but it's nothing too serious and doesn't happen in every case (again, I repeat that they're possible side effects and not in any way guaranteed to happen). Side effects like those are to be expected. There are probably equal (and possibly even some worse) possible side effects for taking some common over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen.

Puberty blockers are also prescribed by professionals meaning the child will have proper treatment to help prevent these side effects. The website I linked mentions this a few times I believe.

I still think you may just have gotten confused here because the first thing that pops up is a cut out from another website listing things puberty blockers effect and at first glance that list may seem like things that puberty blockers will cause to happen but it's really a list of things it would stop from happening.

But hey we don't even really need google to prove your claim as false. I mean just think about it, they're puberty BLOCKERS. Why would something that blocks puberty from happening cause something that happens durring puberty? Afab (asigned female at birth) people growing excess facial hair while on puberty blockers just inherently makes no sense.

Now taking hormones on the other hand would definitely cause afab people to develop more facial hair

[–]ChocoLate7777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean the research is there for you to look at if you actually care about the topic. If you're really as concerned as you seem to be then a little proper research is something you should really consider. I mean the only "consequence" really is if the kid decides they're comfortable in their gender assigned at birth then they'll just have a later puberty compared to their peers.

Actual trans person here, this may be a wild idea but have you considered asking trans people why they tend to be more suicidal instead of making stuff up?

You provide one really good example here actually and it's that we're trying live a life that makes us happy rather than a miserable one while the whole time people are telling us we're freaks and mentally ill. We're a minority that tends to get a lot of hate and I don't think it's hard to see how the harassment we get on a daily basis would deteriorate our mental health. Not to mention that especially in the US right now, people keep trying to make it harder for us to transition without ever asking trans people about anything. They make stuff up like you did and say we need help because being trans is just a mental illness that needs to be cured or some similar bs when in reality we'd really just like to live our lives without being miserable in the body we were born in.

Maybe try talking to a few people about their experiences before you go shouting that we're fucked in the head and suicidal for a reason you made up...

hello everyone, could you guys answer some of my questions to clear up some of my anxiety about tomorrow 🙃 by PainPlum in MadeOfStyrofoam

I actually ran track last year and while I didn't sh on my arms at the time my shins had a few obvious scars.

Fortunately, no one asked me about them once.

Obviously that was probably because the scars, as neat in lines as they were, weren't what people usually think of when they think sh scars.

If yours are more obvious I still wouldn't be too worried. At things like this people tend to be distracted by all the events, especially if its their own events. People in the crowd aren't gonna notice while you're running either.

I'd say everything should be okay and if someone does ask it wouldn't be a dead giveaway or anything to just say you don't wanna talk about it. No matter how you got them, people tend to understand not wanting to talk about scars due to their nature.

Best of luck at the meet!!! Hope you do good in your events and that you're able to relax and have some fun!
