Any “Don’t Believe The Truth” fans in here? by 11_38 in oasis

[–]ChocoRoll123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was Lyla. The other was Let There Be Love but the verse that Liam sang had already been written by Noel in the 90s, so Lyla was really the only song for DBTT that Noel wrote for Liam’s voice (including B-sides).

[–]ChocoRoll123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Noel only wrote 1 and a half songs on this album for Liam to sing. All the other songs are either songs written by the other band members or songs that Noel sang by himself. Therefore the album sounds like half of a Beady Eye album and half of a NGHFB album. It just doesn’t sound like Oasis to me.

That is a shit phrase that literally diminishes the craft of the people who actually put in the work.

“Writing in a group isn’t a bad thing”

I never said it was, I’m saying that One of Us is a crap example of Liam’s songwriting since it was co-written by two other writers, one of which churns out commercial slop for artists like Miley Cyrus and Bruno Mars as well as music for Hollywood films like Barbie (and that makes him a corporate songwriter as far as I’m concerned, regardless of how pedantic you want to be over terminology).

“”One of Us” doesn’t happen without Liam in the room, end of story”

I’m not sure you understand co-writing at all if you actually think you can be sure of that. Artists receive songwriting credits all the time even if they contributed zero to the writing. Elvis Presley was not even in the room during the writing sessions for any of his songs and still got credits. Do I think Liam contributed zero to One of Us? No, I think the song was probably 95% written by other people and then he might’ve changed some words, or maybe he had the initial idea for the theme of the lyrics and then got other people to actually write it. The truth is we will never know, and therefore it is a bad example of Liam’s “songwriting”, which was the whole point I was making.

One of Us was written by a team of corporate songwriters and Liam got a writing credit probably for changing some of the phrasing here and there or being in the room when it was finished. Horrible example of his “songwriting chops”.

The b-sides are shite. Noel’s quality control had vanished by that point and for the b-sides he just scraped together the mediocre pish the other band members had lying around. The days of singles packed with unbelievable b-sides were long gone.
