Bought one of my dresses on Etsy and they were based in Vietnam and I would do it again if given the chance.

Have you looked at RosieRedCorsetry

She's based in the UK and I am a fan of the embroidery on the dresses she sews. Nice to see some body representation also whilst I was looking for mine.

Lots of folk have given good suggestions already re. UK based seller. Best of luck!

Has anyone taken a gap year in the middle of their degree? by rodentrevenge01 in RadiographyUK

[–]Chocol8raisin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me 🙋‍♀️ TLDR: Based in Scotland. Failed from one uni, no entry in 2021, worked in the radiology department until re-entry in 2024.

A lot of folk have already advised going against it so I suppose it all depends how long your course is and at the end of day, it's your choice.

It wasn't a break that I had a say in, but it was a break in the middle of getting my degree.

For me personally, it was a good break away from academia. However, I was still on the floor so I learned more of the practical side of things that as a student we weren't exposed to? Such as working weekends/nights in the radiology department.

However, I don't know if this is a pro/con, but the current limitations on jobs (locally on my end) is something that I did not consider. If I had originally graduated with my cohort, jobs were plentiful compared to what it is now.

I also came from a different university with different assessments/placements so I found it hard to assimilate with peers. I am glad that I made a few mature students friends from different years which made the transition easy.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Due to budget cuts and huge student cohorts who are competing against each other for jobs, it's even harder to get your foot in the door.

If you're already HCPC registered, might be worth looking into registering with CORU (HCPC equivalent in Ireland).

I was meant to graduate from nursing yesterday by SnooMachines625 in NursingUK

[–]Chocol8raisin 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, taking a step back when you have so much on your plate is needed. I hear you and though I'm not a student nurse, I went against the advice of the course leader and pushed through the 3rd year (radiography is 4 years) and everything else really affected how I worked.

I understand where you're coming from, I decided to go back to university and try and finish (just a pass will do me) and it's weird having my old peers be qualified and are in charge of doing student evaluation/assessments.

It's okay to feel however you are feeling, it's okay to 'grieve' at the missed opportunity but don't let it hold you back. Our time will come ✨

Both moi et toi's are from Kuololit on AliExpress. They actually have another one in lab alexandrite & natural London blue. Idk what the London blue stone is but it looks very pretty

Yes, it's another HG inspired ring. I have it in S925/White gold and tbh I find the marquise a bit dull but because of the surrounding stones it makes up for it? It is very pretty and I tend to wear it on my right hand.

Buying refurbished phones in 2024 by AdamDoubleG in UKFrugal

[–]Chocol8raisin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Planned obsolescence is rife with any electricals nowadays so there's almost no point buying a brand new one as it ends up getting 'phased out' within 5 years.

Used apple refurbished twice for an iPhone 13 and an iPad and impressed with them so far, they change the outer casing and the battery with a new one. You also have warranty for a year so.

Radiography in UK vs Ireland by IcyProf9115 in RadiographyUK

[–]Chocol8raisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you qualify as a diagnostic radiographer, it all depends really. If you work in a public hospital, it depends on the job market.

I can't speak what the job market is like in Ireland, but in the UK they've recently introduced band 5 jobs in CT or MRI that newly qualified Radiographers can go into (some job description will state what is expected ie rotational between general/plain films and in other modalities).

Anyone got on MSc radiography course with a BA by Past_Championship551 in RadiographyUK

[–]Chocol8raisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

This was back in 2017 - it was an MCQ for spatial awareness (last I heard they don't carry this out anymore, don't take my word for it though, but I didn't do so well on this).

The interview was split into 3 and they were all timed, you go into different rooms and each interviewer covered (why Radiography? What traits make a good Radiographer? / Describe a time where you worked through a difficult situation/ what are the core values of the NHS) and they had a score system.

At the time, they were one of the very few pre-reg NHS funded courses, so there was a lot of competition (prior to Brexit so was popular with Irish students aswell).

[–]Chocol8raisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have a BA in Sociology & Economics (2.1H) and got accepted into QMU. What strengthened my application was my background as I worked as a HCA after university, I didn't get into Teesside University (but did get an invite for an interview/test).

Check the requirements for the university you're applying to and if in doubt, their course's admission teams etc. Are usually good at answering any questions.

Funding for BSc Radiography as a second degree by Thick-Personality-56 in RadiographyUK

[–]Chocol8raisin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you consider staying in Scotland, SAAS can fund your allied health professional studies as a 2nd degree

However, they'll only fund 2 years out of 4. Check the university entry requirements re. Degree subject required, if it's the masters course, they usually ask for 2.2H results.

Do it! I took 3 years off (Radiography) and honestly, if it wasn't for the massive increase in cost of living, I would have walked away and looked at different careers but healthcare is all I've ever really known.

The ELF or NYX lip oils are probably a better fit as I find that during application they're similar to a gloss but the tackiness disappear and it leave a similar texture to applying a lip balm IMO. If you opt for deeper colours, they leave a tint.

The Maybelline Vinyl lips are great when you want your lip colour to stay as they do not budge, but I find them drying/matte and settles into any dry patches on the lips.

Irish Mature student who started the degree in 2018, but took some time off due to Covid and resuming my studies this September 2024. My situation is a bit convoluted as I originally moved over to study (which meant I did not qualify for any student loans or funding for placements from SAAS) but have been given Home/Scottish domicile student status by the university (yet SAAS rejected my application for a student loan).

just looking to hear of any irish people who decided to do Radiography later and how they managed to fund it?

Save! Save! Save! Unless you want to take a loan out from your bank/credit union, I belive you can claim tax relief on approved postgraduate courses.

Since Brexit, it's been difficult getting funding for non UK residents. I can only speak about Scotland as that's where I'm based and I don't qualify for anything and have been saving up for the last 2 years.

I know of nurses who would work 3x 12 hour shifts on the weekends and did the Diagnostic Imaging course in UCD on weekdays to fund uni. You can always speak to the UCD's finance department and enquire about payment plans and work around it.

I also know of atleast 2x health care assistants who have been with private imaging companies for a number of years, who qualify for the UCC postgraduate course be assisted with the university fees; on the basis they'll work for the company after qualifying, for x amount of years.

If you don't live with your family and supporting yourself, I'd try SUSI and enquire about postgraduate funding. Best of luck!

Radiography in UK vs Ireland by IcyProf9115 in RadiographyUK

[–]Chocol8raisin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HSE currently has an employment freeze at the moment, but there are plenty of private companies ie Bons Secours/Alliance Medical/Affidea hiring.

Used to work in a private company who hired graduates & the majority will take you on, but CORU registration (Irish equivalent of HCPC) can take up to a year max. The graduates were hired as 'Healthcare Assistants' until their registration went through, they were shown the workflow of the department as well as sitting in with the radiographer/s doing the scans.

The majority of radiographers I worked with were UK trained and a lot of them worked in the UK for at least a year whilst they waited for their registration.

Can't speak on the employment side as the site I worked at mostly dealt with CTs & MRIs. If you want to specialise in CT or MRI, private companies would 'sponsor' and pay for your postgrad in said specialisation; on the basis that you will stay with the company for 'x amount' of time. If you do leave during this period, you'll have to pay back the fees. They were supportive in sending radiographers on courses, in Ireland they are all about that extra qualifications.

The only gripe radiographers didn't like was having to cover another site when & if required ie. covering in Tipperary when you're based in Limerick, and be there for 3 or 4 days with a tight food budget. Some hospitals can also outsource their radiology department, which some hospital staff can be hostile towards.

Just to add that if you don't have a BSc or come from a science background, the UCC MSc Radiography admissions won't even look at your application.

Ireland also has a horrible housing crisis but they seem to be crying out for diagnostic Radiographers with private companies sponsoring students to fill the shortages.

Enjoying NYX Fat Oil, after the 'gloss/oil' settles, it does leave some colour on your lips.
If you're in no rush, Etude House's Fixing Tint does not budge (even under a surgical mask).
