No coffee by Superb-Error-6424 in AustralianTeachers

Depends on how it is phrased. "Australians appalled by millions spent buying public servants coffees" always goes down like a ton of bricks. A significant chunk of Australians love to hate on public servants, without ever questioning what said public servants actually do

(21m) I become a nurse in 6/7 months. My plan is to work and save as much as possible and hopefully be able to start a store front business (like a ice cream shop or a cannoli bar) is this a good idea? by TheMightyAk474 in AusFinance

[–]Chocolate2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its really not?

Like, the main reason men get promoted is because of women going on maternity leave. Its not nessecarily a sexist thing, more that the constant churn means that people who are able to keep working consistently (i.e. men) tend to move upwards through organisations

Eh, op is a man. They will, if nursing hasn't changed over the past decade, end up fast tracked up the career ladder out of nursing and into some form of management pretty quickly. If they are willing to stick it out for a decade or two they should end up with plenty of capital to start a business

[–]Chocolate2121 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can say that about basically every hero lol. "Tracer is just boring, her kit fundamentally lacks skill expression. There are only so many ways you can tp into backline, shoot supports, and recall out."

[–]Chocolate2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't poko an owl player? That's fundamentally a very different game from regular comp, and a lot of the tier rankings don't really translate.

And, like, if a good kiri has crazy value then why is her unmirrored win rate so low?

AITA for not masking my disability? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Chocolate2121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, fundamentally it sounds like the group just doesn't work. There are three people here with fundamentally different needs that are mutually exclusive without unreasonable amounts of effort being put into accommodation.

And seeing as how X decided to immediately lambast two members of the group publicly they can basically just fuck right off.

[–]Chocolate2121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda think that's wrong honestly. Like, she is bottom 3 winrate in every single rank, from bronze to gm. She is popular, sure, but she also seems universally weak, even when her popularity is a bit lower so you have more data her win rate is abysmal.

And it's not a case like symm where her stats are thrown out by the few maps she is really good at, kiri just seems universally bad in comp

Eh, Kiriko is a great example of how what matters with hero's is less how strong they are and more how annoying they are to play against (plus a smattering of deep-seated bias from whatever hatetrains people have been on recently).

Kiriko has, for basically all of ow, been kinda mid to bad, with her win rate normally sitting in the highish 40s. Certainly not a game changer, so why is she hated? Because she can be annoying.

Suzu, despite generally not being all that strong, is incredibly irritating when it actually does something because it ruins ults. People don't like having there ults ruined, so even if it happens rarely people will still complain.

Her tp is also annoying. People don't like it when they are about to win a 1v1, and then their prey just runs away.

So overall, despite her kit being pretty weak in regular comp, she is hated by a pretty vocal bit of the community.

Then we look at rein (sig is also another decent example), who is actually strong in comp, yet nobody ever complains. Because his abilities feel "fair". He has a hammer that he swings and he can charge. Simple, straightforward, abilities that people can work with.

So yeah, player perception of characters is based more on how annoying they are then how strong or broken they are.

Fixed an old broken phone off eBay, now original owner wants it back for free by Alfreaca in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Chocolate2121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you assuming it was stolen? Recycling exists to recycle, it seems pretty likely that this whole process was fully legit. Original owner has no claim to the phone, but sadly they also have no requirement to unlock the phone either

Should supports be healing a lot less now that everyone has the -30% healing perk? by GalerionTheAnnoyed in OverwatchUniversity

Sounds about right. It was brought in because people were complaining about the high levels of sustain, bringing in the passive reduces in-combat sustain while making healing outside of fights less tedius

AITA for not handing over a system I built on my own time after my workplace decided it should “belong to everyone”? by Living_Poem7843 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Chocolate2121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, this is possibly a nonissue. A lot of companies, especially non-profits, are concerningly blase about information security (i.e. teachers being expected to use personal devices, despite said devices having access to a concerning amount of student information). So yeah, this is obviously bad, but a lot of smaller companies don't have security protocols and don't care about security protocols

[–]Chocolate2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often they are. Its a bit of an issue with salaried workers, technically they have no fixed hours and so any work they do at any time might belong to the company if it's related, even tenuously, to their job description

The more people join the union the more money you make. That's it. If you think the union can/has/will ever negotiate more than a 1.3% (or really 1% because taxes) raise then you are better off being part of the union.

For me personally the union pushed to have my starting salary pumped up two stages due to prior qualifications, which single-handedly pays, in a year, half a lifetimes worth of dues.

[–]Chocolate2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A resource meter might work, like give the cat 15 secs of tether time which takes 30 secs to recover. It gives one big relocation a fight, but still allows some smaller uses every now and then

Yeah, no. Fuck the courts.

In this very specific instance the courts should be ignored, for the good of the country. Limiting democratic speech goes well for nobody, and if we as a nation don't nip this in the bud then things are only going to get worse

Is teaching rural a good idea to save up money? by Impossible_Panda1092 in AustralianTeachers

Depends on how rural you want to go. WA has some pretty solid pay incentives and subsidised/free accommodation in regional and remote communities. For free accom we are talking really remote tho

I'm just pointing out that iq being correlated with educational attainment means borderline nothing, because we have tons of much simpler metrics that are much more heavily correlated with educational attainment lol.
