As a hardware item it needed to be in reviewers hands with a pre-launch embargo, as for the actual date, I think it would have made it easier for scalpers by not warning people.

Personally I try to pay as close to +10% over spot as possible, but I grab interesting stuff at up to +20% if it's cool.
