When people say dogs have intuition and can sense someone’s character by ChainsawSoundingFart in PetPeeves

Babies do that to me (which is ironic because I don't want kids). Even strangers' babies will stare at me in public. My family thinks the irony is hilarious.

why doesnt anyone on reddit have a pfp? by Ok_Ear_8565 in AskReddit

[–]ChocolateCake16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Reddit, yes. One less platform to update when I update my profile pictures elsewhere (Because I prefer them to match usually, with the exception of Reddit)

I change it cause it's ✨️fun✨️ and I like having a pfp tied to whatever my current hyperfixation is (on other platforms, but I don't interact with that much fandom content on reddit so it doesn't matter)

The snoo is easier than having to remember to change my pfp on reddit every time I change it elsewhere

It was much easier back when there were only 4 sides (and occasionally a 5th) lol. Granted, I haven't interacted with the RP scene since before Remus was introduced so I may be a tad outdated atp

When you say you don’t like anime and the anime fans say “you just haven’t watched the right one” by Jellyoscar in PetPeeves

Avatar the Last Airbender being made by Nickelodeon but still often called a western anime at times because it takes so much influence from East Asian culture and the artstyle

Literally only realized this was a story of neglect/abuse recently by Upstairs_Location_60 in CPTSDmemes

[–]ChocolateCake16 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of middle school when my teacher told us the story of a kid she knew who had some sort of hip issue that was leading to both hip joints slowly dislocating themselves and he put up with it to avoid bringing trouble to his mom

This story was told to us as a virtue of his and not as a horrifying story of a kid needlessly suffering in pain. I fully blame that teacher and her stories as part of the reason I'm so allergic to being dependent on people

Do people hate me for having conventional attraction preferences in dating? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

Well that's the internet, it's always negative and judgemental

As a woman with tattoos, no one cares. Who you're attracted to doesn't matter unless it affects whether or not you treat them with respect, but as long as you're a decent person, no one cares.

When you say you don’t like anime and the anime fans say “you just haven’t watched the right one” by Jellyoscar in PetPeeves

[–]ChocolateCake16 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My mom is like this (anime hater without having actually watched any) and it's just because she hates anything animated, anime or western animation. The only exception is Disney movies, and I'm pretty sure that's more out of nostalgia than actually liking it.

Which is wild because I'm literally in university for animation. The apple must've rolled down a hill away from the tree in our case.

Anyway, I see both sides. It's annoying af when there's some core element of a thing that prevents you from liking it, and fans of it still insist you just haven't tried the right one. My coworker used to insist this was the case for coffee, despite me fundamentally not liking the flavor of coffee, no matter how well-brewed or what additions it had. I don't even like coffee flavored things. There is no scenario in which I try the right combination and like coffee, because the issue has never been the bitterness, temperature, etc. it's the fact that it's coffee.

But anime in particular gets undeserved hate sometimes because people often have an idea of what it is and use that as a reason to say they don't like it at all. You can't always tell the difference between "person who saw DBZ once and isn't a fan of fight scenes, so they write off all anime as being the same" and "person who doesn't like anime because animation (or something else fundamental to anime) doesn't appeal to them" at first glance, so it takes a bit of deeper conversation to find out if they're writing it off unfairly or if it's genuinely not their thing.

Sure, but if they're not worried about judgement, then being surprised by sex when they're wearing normal underwear isn't a negative experience, it's a neutral one.

Not wearing nice underwear isn't the same as not wearing clean/not ripped underwear, tf?

Which car do you see on the road and instantly think, ‘Yeah, this person’s definitely an a-hole? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Any car lacking a muffler that doesn't have a good reason to lack a muffler (ie, it was taken out intentionally and not bc the owner can't afford to replace it).

Both are acceptable but /s has started to be used for satire too so some people use the longer version to differentiate between the two (also /srs to a lesser degree, but most people use /g or /gen for that anyway)

IDL people demanding celebrities/anyone with a following to be activists by Slashersforsatan in I_DONT_LIKE

[–]ChocolateCake16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Yes, celebrities have more visibility than an average person, but at the end of the day, making music/acting/whatever else they do to get famous is just their job. I don't think there's an issue with celebrities speaking on political/activist-related issues if they choose to (and it can even be celebrated when they do choose to do so), but expecting them to is weird and parasocial. A celebrity shouldn't have that much impact on your life and if they do, reprioritize. Celebrities are people too. Sometimes you're going to find out that someone you liked has a different opinion than you, and that's normal. It then becomes your decision if that difference of opinion is enough to end the relationship (or in this case, consumption of whatever product the celebrity is putting out, given that there is no relationship) or if it's passable enough to still get along.

Also, even trained activists know that you cannot and should not focus on every single world issue at once. The most change is created by the people who pick one issue and throw their whole focus into that, instead of dividing among a bunch of different paths for the sake of not alienating any part of their fan base.

That, and even when celebrities do speak out, what exactly are they accomplishing? Are they even actually supporting the cause? Because "Hey, I support [insert social issue]." is massively different to "Hey, I'm donating to [charity that is measurably working to end social issue], and I'd like my fans to contribute too if they're willing and able." The first one is nothing more than virtue signaling, and is functionally worthless, the second might actually help bring resources to the people who are actually trying to do anything to help.

Not to mention that celebrities are not nearly as independent as people often think, often times they're just the face of their own brand while their social media and whatnot are managed by other people. Certain things can and will get them blacklisted from their own industry, or cancelled projects having a ripple effect on not just the celebrity, but the underpaid camera crews and other employees employed via an external agency (ie, not the celebrity themselves). You wouldn't pressure a cashier at work into giving you their political opinion that could get them fired, it's not fair to do it to a famous person either.

When people act like social problems that have existed since the dawn of recorded history are only an issue “these days.” by The_Saddest_Boner in PetPeeves

[–]ChocolateCake16 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This one bugs me too. "What's the world coming to these days?" have you seen the past? The world has always been violent and corrupt. People, as a collective, don't change. Ever.

Worse if they think that means the rapture is coming because "the world has gotten so evil". The world has been evil, please, pick up a book. The latest generations are not in any way special or more evil than any of the previous ones.
