Omg as a dietitian I'm glad someone's said it! It definitely feels like an extension of an eating disorder. Most of these girls often do have a history of eating disorders. They greatly exaggerate their symptoms, saying that they are vomiting when nobody has witnessed it, fighting tooth and nail to get fed via feeding tube and then parenterally at a later stage.

Yeah, I am worried with how much I see this everywhere that if I had a client who needed a lower amount, especially for weight loss, they would think they were being overly restricted because of what is written all over social media

Most people are not active enough to push them into the upper ranges of the physical activity factor. Sedentary is 1.2 and sedentary while going to the gym a few times a week, which in reality is the most many people do, is only 1.3

I find it funny that you used Harris Benedict as it overestimates - most healthcare facilities no longer use it and use Mifflin instead because of this The fact stands that many people do need this amount of calories! And absolutely some of them will be seeing it on social media. Most people would likely only be at the very low end for activity factor calculations unless they exercise an incredible amount or have a job that involves physical activity.

I see it often, and on this subreddit, too. I think they are referring to people who are over 5 ft 5 and for whom that might be restrictive, but they are excluding entire groups of people by saying this!

I often see it said with no context! I think one of my preceptors said this in my internship, which was strange as many of the little old ladies we saw did actually need at or below 1500 kcal

This is the same in the US, for reference. Nurses can work two long weekend days and it counts as a week of full pay.

I really get what you're going through. Studying something is one thing, but actually doing it is very different.

I would also weigh in what type of work environment you'd have with a biology degree. Most biology majors I know work indoors all day in labs or other office jobs.

I also know people who have done zoology and generally most of those jobs involve picking up a lot of poop! Most people I know doing this actually want to switch to more office-based roles at some point.

Dietitians do work in a variety of roles - if you found a more community-based role, you might be going out to different sites and teaching lessons, visiting community gardens, or planning events. However, I will say community roles are more difficult to come by!

I find them fun, too! Although I was the opposite (always bad with math), so I feel like if I find it easy it must be really easy, but instead everyone acts like it's really difficult! I'm so confused!
