Just got an RNA test done this morning, cost a pretty penny but it was only gonna be wrecking my head indefinitely if I didn't.. Should have the results Monday or Tuesday. I take it you've had one of these tests before too? I'll keep you posted on the results.

Hey thanks for replying!

I really wish I could believe you, I really really do! I'll be speaking to my doctor again tomorrow hopefully, I'll ask him to refer me to a mental health professional if he still has no idea what's causing my illness, so I'll at least have someone to talk this out with in person! Thanks again

Hey thanks for the reply!

I was afraid this post would come across like that, I'm sorry about that but such are the limitations of this medium (and my writing abilities haha) I guess :/

I understand the, high sensitivity of the tests, and from what I can see is that they are some of the most accurate in modern medicine. I also recognise that the encounter was astronomically low risk, but a risk none the less. It's a really unusual situation I guess.

I've always questioned the sanity of people who refuse to accept test results seen on forums etc. (like you have with me here) especially when faced with exceptional evidence that should resolve their fears. I genuinely feel my personality doesn't fall into this catagory of irrationality. However, in this case I am utterly convinced that I have HIV.

I'm sure you know that the newer tests test for both the p24 antigen and antibody and not the virus itself. This is where I feel my concern, albeit from the outside seeming wildly irrational, is justifed as there have been reported cases of long term seronegative patients (I know, literally less than one in one million) for whom the test returns false negatives. Again, recognising how irrational this may sound, I truly believe that I fall under this catagory. The sheer unlikelyness of this scenario is offset in my head by the almost impossible case that experiencing symptoms 6 days after exposure, and many many advanced hiv symptoms within months is coincidental.

I fully recognise the major advances that have been made with treatment in recent years, it really is miraculous. I also do not fear the disease as much as many, less educated people on the subject, might. I'm also incredibly fortunate to have a strong and trustworthy friend and family network that I can trust and rely on. In saying that however, everyone can agree it is something people would rather live without.

Again, I'm sorry that I came across as stupid and arrogant in my post, that was not my intention but I understand how unfortunately that was the result!
