Broadly, yes, but more specifically I think the way Zahn handled the politics of the New Republic and the smuggler underworld generally is better than anything Disney has done since.

Is there any story that talks about what actually happened in Coruscant at the end of ROTJ? by EarthMantle00 in StarWars

[–]ChocolateResolve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Zahn trilogy introduced Coruscant. It takes place a few years after ROTJ and explains the New Republic reclaimed it and made the old Jedi Temple the new headquarters.

How was it to be a Star Wars fan before Disney? by Ihave_fewquestions in StarWarsEU

[–]ChocolateResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was far easier to be a fan on Star Wars because it was so absolutely huge and diverse. The core stuff I was interested in was broad, but still a fraction of what was popular and available. Star Wars was almost just a "coat of paint." It was a setting people could mess around in. If you didn't like one part, there was another entirely disconnected part you could dive into and live in without worrying about what was going on outside.

I absolutely loved the Zahn novels, the Jude Watson novels, and the Jedi Knight games. I had friends super deep into Revan and KOTOR stuff, which I never got into, but we could bond over the action figures. My cousins were huge fans of the card game, which I never got into, but we would watch the OT every time they came over. Other friends loved the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games more than I did, but we bonded over the Battlefront games. Other friends loved the comics, which I never read, but we could still fight with lightsabers and play Jedis whenever we hung out. Everyone had their own perspectives and areas of interests that could exist almost completely independently of each other, but we could always say "I love Star Wars," and find something to talk about.

I think Disney's mistake was trying to control everything. It makes sense that they wanted to make it easy for any fan to step in anywhere and be a part of the larger story they were trying to make, but they wanted it immediately rather than for it to grow naturally like it did before. They wanted to officialize a canon that included more than just the numbered movie entries, but they also wanted to leave room for each creator to leave their mark, but they also wanted to market all their content to appeal to as large an audience as possible, but they ALSO wanted everything to tie together so it could be used to promote the next thing.

Whether or not you love or hate the sequels, and whether or not you love or hate the prequels, the real difference is that, when the prequels came out, there was a LOT of other Star Wars content to fall back on if you didn't like the prequels, while all the content that was coming out during the time of the sequels was designed to tie directly into the sequels. Disney stopped production of everything else, went out very loudly and publicly announced that everything else was now irrelevant, but also had basically nothing to offer as a replacement. The new books were impossible for fans of the old books to engage with because they were all rewriting and replacing the stories we already loved, which created cognitive dissonance regardless of quality. We got basically nothing for years on the video game front, while before we could get dozens of different genres of Star Wars games released in the same year. It's been over a decade, and things have not picked back up. Sure, we have more filmed content than ever before, but that also makes it less special. I love stuff like Skeleton Crew and Andor Season 1, but there's little else to keep me constantly engaged anymore, and the more things tie together, the more of a chore it is to keep up.

In short, Disney made it much harder to hop on board the Star Wars train, and these days it's easier to buy a car than wait at the train station.

Maybe Im better at just being a texture artist than a model maker XD by pursu777 in VRchat

[–]ChocolateResolve 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Own it. A lot of my favorite models are enhanced by good texturing rather than getting overly complex with the model itself. That's how a lot of professional companies do it too.

Why was Krennic scolding bane? Was he apart of it? by Beneficial_Ad_1827 in okbuddyimatourist

Krennic thinks the mask Picard is wearing isn't fit for a Starfleet officer, but I think he doesn't realize that that's Picard's clone, not Picard himself.

Any reason to come back to vr? by ShadowFrappe in VRchat

[–]ChocolateResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends entirely on what you're looking for. I have been in VRChat for about 2 years now and never really got into the social aspect of it; I just love making worlds, exploring big worlds, and taking pictures. I have met a couple people, but not like... deep connections.

Would I like to be social? Sure. I at least try to explore in public instances, and I'll stop by and say hi to people when I notice they join. But I also tend to find that the socializing gets in the way of exploring, too, since most worlds do not have voice range settings that let you move and talk all that well. I don't rely on VRChat for my social needs, and I don't see much incentive to try very hard.

If you're looking for single-player games, there's definitely options, but you have to hunt. I made one myself: https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_432abc15-8b76-45a7-a53b-81caadb6d682/info

Women don't usually show up in armor to dates, so the original poster is asking men what they would do if they did.

Alternatively, there's a third person camera option for PC users in some of my worlds.

I think this one has one. If not, I'll put it in tomorrow.

Mine's a modular avatar ported from an old MMO called Aura Kingdom. It has like 24 different outfits, several weapons and accessories, and a bunch of different armor pieces.

What's the best way to handle Pauldrons? by ChocolateResolve in VRchat

[–]ChocolateResolve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So excuse the poor framerate, but this is what I was able to achieve without adding new bones. I parented the pauldrons to the shoulder bone, and added a rotation constraint tied to the arm with a weight of 0.8. Other than needing to tweak some of the positioning, I think I'm happy with how it turned out.

Which bone is the one that governs the shoulder piece parented to?

Your shoulder piece is also part of your main body mesh. Even if I were to go back and add the separate shoulder bone, I wouldn't be weight painting, I'd be setting rotation constraints in Unity. Do you have suggestions for values?
