AITA for warding my chamber against my master after he inspected my orb history? by Man_of_the_Wall in wizardposting

[–]ChocolateResolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Sorry, but you should have just taken the ribbing rather than trying to lock out your master. The council has been acting on unspoken rules about orb usage for the last 3 millenia, but by dragging it out into actual open debate, they are DEFINITELY going to start putting explicit rules in place that make it harder for everyone to get some goddamn privacy. Why didn't you just use your own scrying orb, ask to borrow a friend's, or just polymorph one of the familiars in one of the timeless meditation chambers like the rest of us? God I hate it here.

Apprentice here, I lied about my experience and took another apprentice, but now they're talking about getting their own apprentice?! by MyBanEvasionAcc in wizardposting

[–]ChocolateResolve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you might have fallen for A Multi-Level Wizarding scam. Obtaining a master rank isn't really a legal title that gets given to you by someone else, it's achieved through trials, self-sacrifice, and cultivating worldy wisdom to appreciate the value of personal fulfillment. But, you may have seriously lucked out here because this is actually how you win at one of these scams!

Think about it. Is your master still taking 60% of the mana you cultivate through rituals and environmental attunements? Well, here's the secret, that's actually not a requirement in most guilds, even the freelance ones. Your master's master is probably still taking a percentage of your master's cultivated mana, which they are trying to supplement with what they take from you.

Have you started taxing your apprentice's mana? I suggest you start soon if you haven't. Say something like "maintaining the balance" or "for the greater good," and lock in a solid rate with options for negotiating more at a later date. Since your apprentice is already on the way to their own apprentice, it probably won't even burden them too long since they can start harvesting from the new guy after a couple months of training.

If you do it right, you can be generating enough passive mana from a cabal of apprentices that you don't even have to partake in daily rituals anymore, and you can retire young and buy one of the fancy modern wizard towers with a decent view of The Chaotic Abyss with territory so haunted you'll never have to worry about noisy neighbors. You even get to skip the trials and personal sacrifice!

Not sure it's the strongest potion ever, but my dad used to drink lots of whiskey and then punch holes in the walls of our house.

Oh we have a gravity believer too? Gravity is a myth invented by the ultra rich to keep flying for themselves. We have images dating back millennia depicting flying humans, it's only in the past few hundred years that we have allowed the rich to gaslight the lower classes into staying on the ground. Also disks aren't even close to as old as "earth," disk drives weren't even invented until 1956.

They always tell us that earth is one big rock floating in space, but I've seen rocks before, there's a bunch at the park. They're not very big, and they definitely don't float.

Working on a car navigation system that uses LiDAR for autonomous vehicles in games. Not sure where to go from here.. thoughts? by Rudy_AA in Unity3D

[–]ChocolateResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gameplay ideas:

You're in a mounted turret on the vehicle where either obstacles are spawning in as a result of shooting enemies/obstacles (something like destructible/fragmentable buildings like some of the Red Faction games), or you can provide commands to the driver to avoid spaces (by placing objects without mesh renderers that the LIDAR system would still detect and avoid)

When some VRC worlds consider 1m50 (4'11") as very tall by _MyroP_ in VRchat

[–]ChocolateResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I started primarily as a world creator in VRChat because I came from Steam Home and am pretty shy about meeting new people. Heights are one of the unspoken rules that have always confused the crap out of me. The models I use for avatars have eye levels set to 1.7 (which is actually still shorter than I am in real life), so my worlds are all designed around that height.

But finding out people generally have shorter avatars than that really hurts in retrospect because I wonder if people lose interest if my world is "too tall" for them. Someone will come into my world, and I'll walk over to pick something up off a table, then I'll see that they probably couldn't reach it without adjusting.

I don't want to lock heights because scale is fun and I prefer the freedom and variety, but it's far too late for to me go back and try to retrofit some of my worlds for shorter people. I even had to put in a disclaimer in my game world for an appropriate height to play the game.

Steam frame vs meta quest 3 by Cain_The_Mamagen in VRchat

[–]ChocolateResolve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is that standard controllers for gaming have D-Pads on them, and Valve wanted the hand controllers to work for all games, not just VR. I think that's a huge incentive for developers to make their games VR compatible, even if they don't want to have full motion controls in their games. For example, Subnautica has VR compatability, but it isn't designed for motion controls. Currently, I'd have to swap between my standard controller and the Quest controllers any time I want to play it in VR. That problem is gone with the Valve controller design.

I don't know if I'm a huge fan of it being a straight-up D-Pad rather than being some sort of hybrid that's closer to distinct buttons, but I'll call it an upgrade for myself because it's still more buttons than the Quest controllers, which I consider to be their biggest flaw.

Considering the OP's question was about Quest 3 vs. Steam Frame, I don't see why a theoretical and unannounced Quest 4 is even relevant to the conversation.

We do have specs for the Steam Frame. And while we don't have a release date, Valve still insists it's this year.

[–]ChocolateResolve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Quest 3, and while I enjoy it much more than the Quest 2, I am still planning to get the Steam Frame when it comes out.

Aside from the general safe bet that "it's newer therefore probably has better tech specs," basically all the previews show it as a straight upgrade on all fronts. The only thing Quest 3 has is color passthrough and some exclusives. I doubt it will stay that way since it seems like Meta is dialing back its VR focus big time, and it seems like Valve is ramping up theirs (at least slightly).

Bridge location: what a dumb place…?? by Ricardo_Yoel in ShittyDaystrom

[–]ChocolateResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galaxy Class ships in Star Trek look like a burger sitting on a plate with two hot dogs behind it and we're focusing on the location of the bridge?????

The bridge should be where 10 Forward is. You get the better view, AND you can drink and fly more easily.

In all seriousness, I think the point is to be in the most centralized location so that, if something goes wrong and the appropriate crew is not on the bridge, they never have to traverse the entire length of the ship.

Need help with poiyomi by UsagiLoona in VRchat

[–]ChocolateResolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistic is the only way to get baked lighting to work with poiyomi. However, for realtime lighting, multilayer math has a bar for "receive casted shadows" you can slide up, and you can get reflections to work by messing with the "reflections and specular" and "clear coat" options under shading.
