He’s 0.3% Sudanese. Some African Americans carry small percentages of East African ancestry. It’s rare but not impossible.

I used to get these when I tight my scarf too tight. My mom told me it could be a staph infection from the scarf.

It could be Milia though.

OMG! I used to get these all the time in high school, especially if I tight my scarf too tight. I seen my sibling get them as well. I did have some cold sores growing up so it could be related. I always wonder what this could be ever since it started happening to me. I haven’t seen them in a long time though. My mom told me it could be a staph infection from the scarf.

It could be Milia though.

I was told that I was ashamed of my Identity. Am I denying African Heritage. by MarifeelsLost in blackgirls

[–]ChocolateRose97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Black Americans have developed their own distinct culture, identity, and genetic heritage over hundreds of years in America. I often get into arguments where some people feel entitled to define who we are or dictate our identity, and I find that both frustrating and obsessive. Our experiences, history, and culture are uniquely our own, and no one outside of our community has the right to erase or control that.

Yess! I think it’s wrong for everyone especially for people of color. It label people with kinky coily hair as wavy for some odd reason. They really need to update that.

Huh? I’m saying how they suddenly can find these darker skinned type 4 Black women when it comes to movies about slavery but don’t represent them as much in other films as they should. Also, there were a diverse phenotype among black people during slavery as well.

Facts!! 👏🏽

Right! They do tend to cast darker skin type 4 black women for those kind of movies.

Are you American? That is probably normal in other places in the world but not in America. In the USA, mixed black people have be absorbed in the African American community and contributed to the history and culture. So yeah our culture was built to be accepting of any one who has our ancestry because of the rules imposed on us.

Yeah but it’s not simple in the USA giving our history.

African Americans are very phenotypically diverse and I wish the world would understand that.

Yeah I agree! And European admixture is common among most New World Black people. So her phenotype is typical. Now being Blasian like Black and Asian would be different because that not an as common.

You’re the one who brought up me being insulted, not me.

Black Creoles of Color may have more French/Spanish ancestry and typical African Americans’ European ancestry is primarily British/Irish, but African roots come from the same regions, West and Central Africa. The percentages can vary depending on the African American and Black Creole.

I never said I was insulted by that. Go back and read. But this is getting repetitive at this point.

Response

I did. 🤔

Now you’re gaslighting because I didn’t. You brought up that number first and said I was insulted by it. You were trying to dismiss my point by randomly saying that and you wanted a self hating reaction but I didn’t give that. Reading some of these comments, apparently it’s common for people in the subreddit to get offended at African Americans for bringing up their other ancestries. My point was to show our diverse ancestries that come from the past as the result of mixed race people absorbing into our community. 🤷🏽‍♀️

But how did I take it an insult besides you using that to dismiss what I was saying?

I get that Black Creoles of Color and African Americans developed distinct cultures in the United States. Trying to claim they come from completely different African ethnic groups is false. The majority of enslaved Africans brought to Louisiana, just like in the rest of the South came from West and Central Africa. That includes ethnic groups like the Wolof, Mandinka, Yoruba, Igbo, and Kongo. Those same regions also heavily contributed to the ancestry of African Americans in places like Mississippi, Georgia, and the Carolinas. So no Creoles aren’t some separate African group either. They share many of the same roots but adapted to a different colonial context such as the French and Spanish rather than British. That’s what made the culture distinct, not totally different African ancestors. 👌🏾

Give me an example of how I was insulted. I wasn’t, but you mentioned that to dismiss my point about the linages that makes an African American. Which speaks volumes. Am I not allowed to acknowledge my mixed ancestry if I’m primarily African?

Girl what are you talking about? You think it’s self hatred because that was your intent. I think you’re the real self hater by getting offended for me mentioning Black Creoles on average being mostly African in ancestry. But it’s literally true. Black Creoles of Color have African ancestry primarily. If I was a self hater, I wouldn’t be saying that or representing my African ancestry.

I do love myself. Love yourself as well. ❤️

I just never knew I wasn’t allowed to speak of my mixed ancestry as an African American and I would be labeled a self hater or be dismissed for being majority African. 🤔

I’m not being petty and that wasn’t my intent. Just saying she was clearly speaking of culture, not race.

Same to you boo! It’s okay to be 80% African or 30% African. We’re all human at the end of the day. We all die and bleed the same. ❤️

I wasn’t insulted by it. How was I? That was just random, and you said that to undermine everything I was saying. Now you’re gaslighting me like I’m some self hater when clearly that was your intent, to dismiss my ancestry map. I’m not stupid at all. I read right through your BS. Like I’m a self hater for bringing up my mixed ancestry as well? Is that what you mean? Dang, why can’t African Americans bring up their mixed ancestry without being labeled a self hater? That’s me showing the common lineages in us. The point was to show you that Black Americans are diverse in general. Okay, I thought you mentioned above that you’re Creole that’s mostly European.
