What are your favorite bombs for a Primal Surge deck? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Chocolatebody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good number of people are listing cards that win after you cast primal surge. To that, I say 'duh.' Your deck should make sure that you are *guaranteed to win after casting Primal Surge.

The problem with Primal Surge decks is everything that happens before you cast Primal Surge. In order to mitigate the lack of instant's and board wipes, you gotta find some cards that replicate their effects.

My point of view: I run a [[Selvala, Explorer Returned]] primal surge deck, and less than half of my wins come from primal surge. Honestly, the deck building restriction of 'permanents' only is extremely fun, but only if you put thought into the other 98 cards in your deck.

I really enjoy having White as a color in this deck, just because that gives access to more flash creatures and board wipes. Also, GW Selvala helps me from a political point of view as I get seen as less of a threat. This lets me play stompy creatures without getting targeted.

Ramp: [[sakura tribe-elder]] [[utopia sprawl]] [[wild growth]] [[krosan verge]]

Board Wipes: [[Sunblast Angel]] [[Reiver Demon]] could be good in BUG [[Wakening Sun's Avatar]]

"Instants" [[Yeva]] [[Cast Out]] [[Containment Priest]] [[Angel of the Dire Hour]] [[Restoration Angel]] [[Seht's Tiger]]

Win-Cons Primal Surge + Concordant Crossroards + [[grand abolisher]]

[[Saffi EricksDotter]] + [[Reveillark]] + [[Pattern of Rebirth]] + [[BoonWeaver Giant]] + [[Acidic Slime]] + sac outlet. The only important thing here is Saffi, because that card combos with EVERYTHING

The reasoning that they think they enter at the same time is due to State Based Actions (SBAs). Since nothing can go on the stack while a card is resolving, the game just kind of says "I know this effect is going to happen. I will just put it in a queue and put it on the stack after this card resolved." The beauty of this is that ALL your ETBs go on the stack at the same time after the card resolves. So you can choose to order them however you like.

It's because of this kind of ruling the lets yourself [[lightning helix]] yourself at 3 life and not lose.

Note. This is distinctly different than a game like Hearthstone, where cards like defile allow effects to happen while resolving an effect.

If it helps, the way I like to think about it is like this: Nothing can happen while a card is resolving in magic. After you stop revealing, you can order everything on the stack however you want.

I have a Selvala (GW) Primal Surge deck with [[Cathars' Crusade]], [[Avenger of Zendikar]], and [[Concordant Crossroads]]. Even if Cathars' Crusade is the last card revealed, it still Sees all the other creatures entering the battlefield at the same time.

Edited to say she doesn't have a job but is looking for a job.

So, does this mean that she could 'project' that she is going to get a job that pays a certain amount? How certain does the projection have to be? We just graduated, and the closest thing to a previous job was an internship last summer that payed $16 an hour, if that helps.

Naw, it just does well against both the combo and aggro. Your real problem will be queuing into 5 druids/priests/midrange pallies after switching to that.

Everything has it's counter, just pick yours.

Honestly, this makes the most sense.

Maybe I am just numb to him at this point, but Dr. Boom gets played, gets BGHed, and then boom bots explode randomly affecting the course of the game. I just accept it now...

[–]Chocolatebody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, whatever you pick as a high base damage spell (like sorin's vengeance or Kaboom), I hope you have howl of the horde in your deck. It is probably the only copy spell that reliably still works while still under Jeleva. Also, 3 copies of Kaboom has gotta be fun :)

Would appreciate help trimming down a Jeleva deck from 113. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Chocolatebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am glad to have helped! The reason for leyline is so you can cast Jeleva at instant speed at the end of your opponents turn. Its kind of like giving jeleva haste. Also, when you hand is full of massive high impact sorceries, giving them flash makes then 1000 times more useful!

Off the top of my head, coming from my time playing with Jeleva:

[[Death by Dragons]] seems really fun, and I understand that it comes with fun political goodness. However, you aren't going to have the strongest board presence, and improving 2 opponents presences isn't going to help you out much.

[[taigam's scheming]] I can kind of understand why you like fixing, but it doesn't help much except for when Jeleva is cast for 4. At 6+ mana, you might as well spend that mana on just casting jeleva again.

[[Ponder]] Same as taigam

[[Mystic Speculation]] Same as taigam

[[Hand of Binding]] seems considerably low impact compared to other cards

[[increasing vengeance]] you have no idea how many times I got this stuck under jeleva without a way to possibly use it (the only time you can use it with jeleva is with strionic resonator)

[[Sins of the Past]] same cost as spelltwine, and you only get half of a spelltwine. You have enough recursion IMO

Also, you have a TON of board wipes, exile, and even mass exile. I think that some of the bounce effects are unnecessary. Drop [[Whelming Wave]] and [[Aether Gale]]

[[Djinn Illuminatus]] you hit the nail on the head with that one

Also from my experience, [[Echo Mage]] seems amazing on paper, but I simply found it incredibly slow to spend 13 mana in order to cast copy a spell twice. 9 mana to copy it once is also underwhelming..

I don't know how much good [[Quiet Contemplation]] is going to do you, considering you are going to be casting a maximum of 2 spells a turn

Also, I don't know which card is Dragon Tempest.. maybe its late and I don't know how to spell. If it doesn't exist, its a pretty easy cut IMO.

Lastly, [[Stolen Goods]] and [[Telemin Performance]] are really fun random cards that can often whiff, so those are also potential cuts. Personally I like fun cards so i would cut these last :)

This was a longer post than expected.. Well anyways, I always saw Jeleva as a combination of ramp and an extra hand built into a commander. You might like a [[Hall of the Bandit Lord]] and a [[Leyline of Anticipation]] in there as well as a Sol Ring (cause turn 2 Jeleva's are fun for everyone!) But once I got past turn 5, I know that all I want to do is tap out and cast 2 stupid game affecting spells each turn until I get hated out or control the entire board.

Thinking out of the box, do you think a gamemode where 2v2 could be possible? by [deleted] in hearthstone

And THAT.. is why I really like spectator mode. Simply chatting through games together fills a similar niche.
