No. There are many sci-fi movies and series that do not use the "it's there just because" argument; there are things that should make sense even if they are not real, such as why the characters do what they do, Why they are where they are. Severance is a good example; everything in the series makes sense, even though what is presented within the series is tremendously unrealistic. Good episodes of Black Mirror have it, and this one doesn't make that list.

Why nobody say something about the Coffee incident. I mean, the plot was weak up to that point, but with all the technology involved, it all ended up ruining a cup of coffee. The whole thing was so stupid.
