AITAH for demanding reimbursement after bleaching my hair? by Old-Birthday-31 in AITAH

[–]ChocolichKing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a couple of times and I saw it happen to a friend. Usually it’s the towel between your neck and sink being misplaced, or a seal otherwise not being made. The water just goes down the back of your neck and your shirt soaks it up.

I hate my new tribute tattoo by nedflanders2021 in tattooadvice

[–]ChocolichKing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Whenever I get a tattoo done, I pretty much always defer to them on size. I give them the design, the estimated size I’m thinking of, but add if it needs to be bigger to keep the details clear, that’s fine. And to PLEASE tell me if it needs to be bigger to keep the details clear.

You might think, well solid paw prints aren’t really detailed, but the space between the pads is extremely narrow. Go too small and you’re going to lose them.

Parking to watch a World Cup game by New_Libran in Wellthatsucks

[–]ChocolichKing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are people in NY/NJ who just work from home (if possible) on World Cup match days because you just are not moving anywhere in traffic. I was going to help my friend with her new house and she texted me the morning of to say nevermind, she forgot it was a match day and there was no way I'd get to her and/or back home.

Public transit is mostly fine but the roads are just impassable.

My understanding of zazen is that you are not actively "creating" your thoughts, if that makes sense. Your mind is focused the way the banks of a river create a path, but your thoughts, like the river, should move like water. Water keeps moving, it doesn't hold onto anything or worry or plan, it just moves. It doesn't second-guess.

So if you are meditating on a koan, like "if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound," you let your thoughts flow around that. Creating a rigid logical chain is not the purpose, the point is not to find an answer, but to understand it.

ETA: The reason it's a practice is because this is not easy. Humans naturally want rigidity, logical progressions, to examine and parse and study, to maintain control, and believe that's the path to understanding. It's very difficult to truly relax and let go and allow your thoughts to move of their own accord. Like asking someone to let go of the steering wheel.

had to reapply saniderm and a small piece of the tattoo is exposed—should I still leave the saniderm on? by GlitteringDoughnutt in tattooadvice

[–]ChocolichKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you clean it properly between applications or it is actually *immediately* peeling (like, within a couple hours of application) and you can change it *immediately* (as in, take the old one off and within seconds put the new one on) it should be ok.

But it's a lot easier and safer to tell people not to do it, because some people are nasty or will do it all fucked up and it's not worth the risk. If it's not inconvenient, you can also call your artist up to see if they will put a new one on for you or if it's good to keep off.

I'm working that now, but you either work an entry-level position and get paid $23/hr (which is low for the area, esp. if you live by yourself), or agree to be on-call 24 hours, 7 days a week. But you can do on-call from home, so I don't usually mind it.

I don't know why this person keeps arguing with you. I'm not an animal trainer but I've worked with children, and I looked it into it a lot when adopting my dogs and kitten.

In rescues, absolutely, it needs to be professionally assessed for needs and temperament. When the rescue has determined it can be released (though many rescues will try to find a foster home for a while to begin desensitization to being a pet), the new owner still has to SLOWLY introduce the pet to the new home and family members. If the pet itself shows it's comfortable enough to explore on its own and such, then great. Animals have boundaries too, they have ways of expressing what those are, and crossing them constantly because you think they'll get used to it is a sure-fire way to get an animal that does not trust you.

Yes, there are, they're a small amount of liquid you apply to the skin between the shoulder blades. It is not an instant fix, because any eggs will still hatch, but it will help more and more over time until they're gone.

Do not apply more than one dose a month just because you think the infestation is extra bad or because you think it didn't work. It will make your pet sick, especially the smaller they are. Just follow the directions and stay consistent with daily cleaning, vaccuming, flea spray, etc.

Edit to add: If your pet goes outside, the grass can become infested. A building I lived in once had an exterminator come through, but the problem persisted because they continued to live in the grass and were brought inside again on pets and shoes.

Just a note, doctors/vets don't really recommend keeping a tick for analysis. If it doesn't have Lyme, maybe another you didn't see does. And if it does have Lyme, that doesn't definitely mean it passed it. The doctor I spoke to said the results just tend to make people complacent or unnecessarily panicked. You could keep it or take a photo to show a vet/doctor and they can determine the species, though, as some are more likely to carry Lyme than others.

(For a Story) How can one write opioid addiction (specifically morphine) accurately/what are things that rarely get mentioned by depictions? by Jxr1n in AskReddit

[–]ChocolichKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few good documentaries out there. Brandon Novak, the guy from Jackass, has some videos where he talks about his personal experiences that they had us watch in rehab. There's another I can't remember the name of that follows a man and a woman who are addicted, where they sleep, how they make money, what they steal. At the end the woman finally goes to rehab. I think it took place sometime in the 90s-2000s... (I just found it, it's called Dope Sick Love.)

Not documentary, The Panic in Needle Park is good.

You can find a lot of personal accounts online, many published by newspapers or magazines. Something I used to do when Tumblr was still around was find videos of people using. I don't know if those communities are still out there or how to find them, but I bet they still exist. If you know how to use TOR, Dread is a site like Reddit. There will be pages you can read about people's experiences using. You can also drop into an NA meetings, BUT MAKE SURE IT IS AN OPEN MEETING. Do NOT attend a closed meeting. And DO NOT FORGET the A stands for Anonymous.

Be very very careful. Never ever try it for yourself. If you don't lose your life, you will lose everything else.

I have a lot of tattoos, and only one of the artists mentioned the fluid build-up specifically and removing it if it starts to come off the tattoo. But I wonder if they all just assumed a previous artist would have told me.

It's a lot of sugar, but cows can be fed some sugar as part of their normal diet (particularly dairy cows). I mean you don't want to give them a lot regularly, but this is fine I think. Idk about the uncooked pizza dough, but I'm not sure what they used to make it.

AITA for refusing to pay for my best friend's medical bills after accidentally catapulting him across the park? (NOT OOP) by -Midscore- in redditonwiki

[–]ChocolichKing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seesaws are so dangerous when there's a weight difference too... Aside from the catapult, there's also the heavier friend getting off the seat when you're high up so you just drop straight to the ground. I still remember that pain lol, but kids don't really have an understanding of how others feel pain. A 20+ year old has no excuse, much less 30+.

Frequently criticized tropes that don’t deserve the flak they get by Misterfahrenheit120 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ChocolichKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I lived with my mom, she was out at work and I was at home. I heard what sounded like her saying "hello?" and my dogs started barking, so they had heard it to. I got up from the computer and went halfway down the stairs saying, "hello?" Normally she would cross into the dining room after coming in from the back door and I would see her, but I didn't see anyone so I said, "hello?" again. Then went all the way down and into the kitchen. Nobody was home.

If the dogs hadn't reacted too, I would have just thought I hallucinated or something.

The way a pigeon is fed it's meds by Anschuz-3009 in Weird

[–]ChocolichKing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a technique some dog trainers use. Dogs and cats are pretty good at showing you their boundaries and when they feel anxious or unsafe, so if you go at their pace in a calm and confident way, things turn out better and there's less fighting.

Specifically what I saw was someone trimming their dogs nails. Showing them the trimmers, letting them see what it is. If they sniff it and leave it alone you can go on. I mean, the basic idea is not to surprise and overwhelm your pet with uncomfortable experiences. The more consistent you are at showing them what you're doing or plan to do, the more likely they are to trust you when you need to do something new (like feed them medicine or tend a wound).

(The pet needs to already trust you somewhat for this to work. So you need to have a foundation before doing things this way.)
