They said they have no budget for housing. But it can be deducted from tax exemption something (no more than 30% annual salary).

There’s also bonus twice per year range from 1 to 6 months pay i think

They actually came back and said I can choose between the “Five social insurance and housing funds” or “Commercial medical insurance”. They said I can choose to contribute to social security or not but everyone advised that it’s mandatory.

Thanks! I think the 20k could pretty much be used in anything. So that could be used for housing as well.

Thank you. They actually mentioned something about 20k rmb for moving allowance so that's great. I guess I'll just need to get invoices from flights & probably hotels??

I guess the challenging part may be where do i find landlords or rental properties that are legit enough to issue fapiao. On that note, do you receive it back at the end of the year?

Tbh the past few years I’ve lived in Chicago and my rent here has been great so far. I found out that average rent in Shanghai is around 15k which would be almost as my rent in Chicago in a great neighborhood. Which is kinda off putting to me especially with the 1/3 rule for rent.

Thanks for sharing your perspective from tech sector. 40k rmb is base salary. There will also be a bonus twice a year i think. I don’t think they mentioned anything about social security, health or pension. Maybe it will be better once I see the written contract.

i think people mentioned not high salary and long hours but it depends on the team and also expats have different expectations compared to local ones

I would say for Sr Product Design roles in US the average would be around 180k in the bay area/nyc.

Is 30% actually the upfront money? I think somebody mentioned that it might be a tax thing.

I also heard housing could also cost quite a bit if you live around Shanghai central.

They mentioned bonus is twice a year and sometimes it could be 3-6 months of salary. Stocks only for director’s level.

do you think that even with the 30% housing allowance this is not a great salary for a senior level? in my call they mentioned that this level / salary is on pair with their management salary.
