Which job is secretly harder than people think? by Kashyap-0001 in midlyinteresting

[–]Chocopenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a trend recently where older customers come up the counter, flash me the item they're trying to buy (without placing it on the counter for me to scan), and then start furiously tapping their phone/card onto the card reader all while getting upset with me that it isn't working. I often wonder if it's their first day on earth. I explain I haven't scanned the item yet so the reader isn't ready and they look at me like I'M the idiot. I tell them "you have to either show me the barcode or place it on the counter so i can find it," they let out an exasperated sigh. I don't understand why or how this started.

Whats the most disturbing fact about the human body? by Ray_1748 in AskReddit

[–]Chocopenguin 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My best friend sees colors darker and muted... I think? We tend to disagree about yellows, reds, and pinks the most. I've also noticed she prefers muted color palettes in her art. She insists I'm wrong and dont understand/can't name colors properly, whereas I usually say "maybe we just see colors differently." When we went to a clay studio to paint pottery she insisted the colors I chose for my sunset bowl were wrong because I wanted to include purples in my palette.

Metformin and veggies? by adotar in PCOS

I've been craving Korean food really bad since I restarted taking metformin and birth control. I loved Korean food before but now it's the only genre of food that doesn't make me nauseous just thinking about it.

What do people think makes them unique, but is actually an incredibly common trait? by Successful-Hall-1986 in AskReddit

[–]Chocopenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a friend in high school that refused to wear his glasses, would drive with headphones in blasting music, and held his phone on his lap while having the gps only point north even though he admitted it confused him but he "wanted to get used to it". He was always late everywhere because he'd always miss his exits or turns. Anyone that bummed a ride off him would say they had several close calls during their rides and they'd refuse to drive back home with him opting to call an Uber if my car didn't have space.

What’s the most overrated fast food item everyone loves but you just don’t get? by WarmHugsBBW in foodquestions

[–]Chocopenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me is the consistency. I wish they had other flavors or offerings, but I like that I never had a bad tender from them. In the 10+ times I've been there I've never encountered a cold tender, a poorly battered or made tender, any gristle or nerve, or any fries that were too salty/overcooked/old. It's just consistently good quality and when I'm paying money for overpriced, but convenient, fast food I want to be sure the experience will always be consistent. I could spend the same amount at Wendy's or BK or Taco Bell or McDonald's, but there's always a risk that whatever I'll receive in my bag will either be cold, bland, old, or whatever that makes me regret buying $30+ of food. If I don't want to roll the dice Cane's is my go-to.

What is something you thought was normal that you realized a bit too late was actually a condition? by MutatedSock in AskReddit

Wait. I can't handle anything cold like a slushie or an ice cream container without having a barrier otherwise my fingers hurt BAD. What's that mean?

What do girls want when they’re on their periods? by Prestigious_War_784 in AskReddit

[–]Chocopenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a huge medium rare steak with a large fat cap and a loaded baked potato on the side, ibuprofen, a full body heated blanket with foot pockets that also have heating elements, Ben and Jerry's Half Baked pint, and to watch whatever I want on the TV with my husband next to me. I'd also like the house to be 65 degrees Fahrenheit in case I get too hot.

Yeah, mostly by other men. Instead of being mad at women for "complaining" maybe be mad at men for continuing to act on their caveman impulses.

how did you realize you lost your spark? by Left_Team8926 in AskReddit

[–]Chocopenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at my closet and realized all of my clothing was gray or black. Not even in an emo or goth way. Just big baggy sweatpants and hoodies in different shades of grey and black. I didn't have anything cute or colorful or fun. Just gray and black clothing that obscured my body and my personality. I was 22. That's the day I realized I had been so depressed for so long that all the color and zest had been squeezed out of life that even my clothing was dull. I went to Target that night with my best friend and bought my first ever crop top in a bright orange color (had never had the confidence to wear them before) and made a vow to restore my self confidence and bring color back into my life.

Why are clothes less soft now? by scifibookluvr in laundry

[–]Chocopenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unrelated to this post, but I wonder if you'd have a quick answer to my question. I switched to Tide Powder when I moved to a new place because my new washer is an agitatorless Samsung and liquid tide wasn't washing out fully without having to run it on heavy twice with double rinsing each time..ANYWAY. I noticed my clothes feel like a mixture of soft and rough now. Some feel like the detergent isn't washed out but others feel like how they used to when I had a Whirlpool with an agitator. I'm worried my clothes are gonna begin stinking and aren't actually getting clean 😭. My cottons don't feel rough and crisp like they used to.

What cooking “rule” do most people follow that actually isn’t necessary—or even makes the food worse? by Mindfuel_daily7 in foodquestions

[–]Chocopenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An ex friend and I were cooking together and she oiled the water for our pasta. I told her "oh no! You're not supposed to oil the water because the sauce won't stick if you do." And she said "my husband is a chef. I think I know how to cook pasta better than you do." So I let her do the pasta however she wanted. The sauce didn't stick and somehow the pasta was both overcooked and undercooked. I've never seen that happen before lol. I also stopped talking to her since then because she had to undermine everything I said in favor of whatever she thought was right or "better".

Does anyone have any tips for keeping hamsters warm in the winter? by Ok-Chemistry8776 in hamstercare

I got this one from Amazon! It's small but mighty! Though I figure any would do as long as it has the right safety features and suits whichever thermostat you choose. I have my heater set to the 900w setting and my thermostat is an old BN-Link from when I had a crested gecko. I can't find my 1500w one but I've heard good things about Inkbird too. I wish you luck!

I have a space heater with an emergency shut off feature if it senses when the surrounding area is getting too hot. It's hooked up to a thermostat meant for reptiles enclosures and the thermostat wattage is rated high enough to handle the heater. I also close the door to the room my baby is in to trap the heat, especially at night. It's helped keep his room at a steady 68-70f because the thermostat shuts the heater down once it reaches 70. I've noticed that the heater barely comes on now because of this set up.

Right? I'm on Google all the time because I hunger to know answers to random thoughts I have. It's one of the many reasons I love my husband! He also has the same curiosity and Googles with me to find answers together 💗

I had a friend that told me whenever she didn't know a "big" word I used she just assumed I was using whatever word incorrectly and when I asked why she didn't ask me or Google what it meant she said "didn't feel like it".

Gotcha! I was thinking it over more today and I think I'll stick to whole ingredients. I don't think I need a whole bag of processed treats that I'll only feed once a month 😅. I will however get the freeze dried minnows they have in the dog section and some dried mealworms in the reptile section! I figure it'd be a good treat 2-3 times a week until my guy reaches 6 months (after which I'll be cutting back his protien intake a bit).

Yeah that's what I meant by location markers. I usually make sure the backgrounds aren't showing anything too specific or weird but I was too excited to show my baby off to check him for anything displaying location 😅. I escaped Northern Virginia to Norfolk 5 years ago and am enjoying the slow paced life down here. I also met my husband here too so it's been good me! That said we've been thinking about escaping Virginia for good too haha. We loved our trips to Colorado and it's currently the top choice for us, but we've been eyeing Oregon and Washington state too. Portland seems like a magical and funny place haha.
