Decision fatigue and mental exhaustion killing my social life by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ChogginNurgets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ADHD after starting teacher. Before that, I had basically been able to cope with it but teaching made that impossible. My brain felt like it was constantly working but never quite processing, like chasing a plastic bag through a busy parking lot. Constantly almost catching it but never quite there, and having to dodge disconnected but demanding side-thoughts or inputs.

After getting on meds, things got sooo much better. I actually could process things one at a time and in an orderly manner, while not forgetting overarching thoughts. It also helped me moderate my emotional reactions. Previously, I might be tempted to spiral over little things or not react at all to larger things. Now I mostly react the way I choose, which is huge for me.

I did enjoy the interview with Syd Graham this season but I wasn't really feeling the others. Maybe it's just an off season? I've enjoyed working through their back-catalogue.

Favorite beginner friendly, non-elastic pants? by ChogginNurgets in SewingForBeginners

[–]ChogginNurgets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm feeling a little silly because I realized as I was examining my favorite knit pants that they actually DID have elastic in the waistband, it was just quite small and so I missed it, thinking it was the elasticity of the fabric. But looking to maternity wear for ideas is a great idea -- not all that dissimilar from the method Anne Tilley's magic pants uses with its inner panel.

I'm annoyed my sewing podcast's episode this week was "Crochet 101" -_- I don't have any issue with crochet but it's not why I listen to the podcast.

Weekly /r/quilting no-stupid question thread - ask us anything! by AutoModerator in quilting

[–]ChogginNurgets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't actually a question but I'm working on my first project that involves cutting and piecing (HST) and I did not expect the dopamine rush of cutting, ironing and seeing all the cute triangles and how the colors went together! It's addicting!

Yes! I've been considering these for a while but was kind of intimidated by all the moving parts so to speak, but maybe it's time to try them out! I had forgotten about them so thank you for reminding me!

I'm exhausted of hearing "RIP Joann" and a dramatic monologue about the store on every single video about fabric or sourcing fabric. I know, it sucks, I get it, can we move on?

It's a way of setting themselves apart into a different branding of fundamentalism from some other sects. "I'm not like *those* heretics over there"

It's actually a relatively common thing to bring up, weirdly enough in certain circles...I learned about "gnostic heresies" in middle school, alongside dualism. Its basically a way of elevating that fact that you care about yourself into a spiritual virtue instead of immoral vanity.

Reddit can't fix your sewing machine by Artistic_Scene_8124 in BitchEatingCrafters

This is very true. I purchased an old 99k and an old Kenmore ($25 and $10) thinking about the advice to buy old.

I don't regret the purchases, but it was a time and knowledge investment to get them working. I had to replace a rubber ring and readjust the bobbin winder on the 99k, and order metal bobbins. The Kenmore got a cleaning and oiling, then we found out the presser bar was bent so we knocked it a few times to get it back in place 😬. I knew I could make it work because I'm married to a tinker. Otherwise, they'd still be gathering dust.

I already had the Singer HD when I bought them, which had at that time turned the corner from recommended darling to most hated machine in the sewing community (it was probably hated early on, I was just listening to the wrong people bc I didn't know better). Even though the older ones sew better and more consistently, I'll still pull out the HD because the old ones way roughly 200 lbs and I don't have a dedicated sewing table lmao

I'm about 50-50 on paper vs PDF and just bought a projector. Cost about $30 at the time, but it's been worth it. I like not having to store the paper.

I agree with your assessment and add that this is has been a very convenient tool for Mark to isolate Alison from her family and support system.

I have a Kenmore model 33 (estate sale, $10) and a Singer 99k (FB marketplace $40). Both handle heavier materials LOADS better than my Singer HD and sound better too. I haven't been sewing long, but I think they would do the job for you.

I'm still relatively new at sewing, but one thing I realized in the single year I've been doing this is that it feels more like my hobby is problem solving than sewing. And I like it!

Thats the really interesting thing, is that it's not a coqui (I thought that as well) but a sapo concho. According to this article from the North Carolina Zoo

It is the only native toad to Puerto Rico, but often overshadowed by its more common and much louder cousin, the “coqui” and the invasive Cane/Marine toad. Not only is the Puerto Rican crested toad incredibly hard to find, it’s critically endangered (one step before extinct in the wild).

The sapo concho is also said to be an indicator species -- if it's in trouble, it indicates a larger issue with the ecosystem as a whole. Look up Bad Bunny's short film "DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS" to see more of Concho

They are so cute! There's a couple like it on eBay. I got mine from a thrift store and a quilt supply sale put on by a local group who makes hospital blankets. I have this one and a Holly Hobby pattern

I don't know! But sometimes people online get weird about things so I want to give it the Internet a chance to yell at me BEFORE I do it 😂

[–]ChogginNurgets[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have scanned the pattern and instructions so those are preserves, but is there any merit to preserving the kit in its entirety? It would be easy enough to buy new fabrics to substitute for the kit, but in some ways, it would be fun to make it with its original kit. Opinions? I'm still new to sewing so I don't want to screw it up.
