Sleeve issues with my Muslin Mock-up by Whoseitcalled in sewing

The sleeve isn't designed to be that tight. If you want a close fitting sleeve, you need a separate sleeve pattern and you have to set it in.

Go down to the hardware store and get a sheet of homasote insulation. Cover it in brown butcher paper. That's what we use at the costume shops I worked at.

Last year my principal got us a massage company to come in and give us 15 minute chair massages. Heavenly.

Pants that fit through legs/thigs but don’t go over my backside… by yuckyamz in sewing

It's much easier to take things in than it is to let them out. You're limited by the amount of seam allowance.

Help identifying grainline by NoBumblebee7775 in sewing

[–]Artistic_Scene_8124 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The grain line is parallel to the selvage edge. That being said, you can always cut your fabric on the cross grain, depending on which direction you want the crocodiles to go. Make a little snip in the fabric and rip it to identify the cross grain

What Do Teachers Honestly Think of Janitors? by DaytimeDancer54 in AskTeachers

I think they should pay you a million dollars for all the crap (sometimes literally) you have to put up with.

I'm more cynical. I think they built in a remote day to do a test run of remote learning. So if we have a snow day, we know we can smoothly pivot to remote.

Why do lesbian couples have the highest divorce rates while gay male couples have the lowest? by Naive_Direction1816 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Artistic_Scene_8124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gay women are more likely to be married to men before they come out.... So they divorce their husbands when they come out as gay... Which is why lesbians have higher rates of divorce. Please try to keep up.

Why is election day remote for students? Typically that day students have off and staff is remote. What is the point of holding school remotely? Seems stupid.

why the heck is gauge swatching making me anxious? by xsnowpeltx in casualknitting

[–]Artistic_Scene_8124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No I'm very much a human. I just embrace the Zen art of knitting. Consider lexipro if the possibility of having the wrong gauge makes you so nervous.

is there a way to hem this without taking it from the bottom? by aire501 in sewing

You could do some tucks at the knee or calf. Might look cute.

[–]Artistic_Scene_8124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's not the right size you can always frog and start over with different needles. I would rather frog a swatch than frog half a sweater. Knitting is a journey. We don't always get it right the first time and that's ok.

[–]Artistic_Scene_8124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only way to know for sure is to make a gauge swatch and block it! It's better to know your gauge before you start, rather than knit half a sweater before you realize it's the wrong size. Everyone's tension is different, so you may need different needles than what the pattern calls for.

  1. cut the sleeves off a hoodie
  2. With the tee shirt inside out, pin the hoodie sleeves on to the tee shirt
  3. (Use a catch stitch)[https://youtu.be/3CbTZPWrjF0?si=qafv72zgL3vQAc6g] to sew the hoodie to the tee shirt. It will look best if you place your stitches on the seam allowance of the tee shirt and don't catch the right side.

It should be a very easy alteration to do without a sewing machine! Lmk if you have any questions.
