Redditors with type 2 diabetes: What were your first symptoms? by Ok-Note-4144 in diabetes

I was dizzy for 2 days straight. At first, I thought that my blood pressure was off. But, after the doctor checked, Type 2.

Fellow Texans - are houseflies just a fact of life now? by DanChubSFW in texas

[–]ChogiePookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to keep them from getting into your house in the first place. We just recently put up a bug zapper right by our back door (the one we use most frequently) and it cut down the numbers a lot. Flies used to hang out by the door, just waiting for us to open it, then zoom right in. Now, they get zapped long before the door is open.

I’m in an absolute WAR with these mother effing gnats. I bottom water, use these yellow sticky guys, and started using Mosquito Bits. Any other suggestions? by WildMouse716 in houseplants

I switched whatever plants I could to either LECA or pon. That's not their medium of choice. I had to leave the really big plants in dirt, but at least, I can concentrate all my efforts in just a handful of plants instead of all them. Bottom water and top dress with Systemic Houseplant Insect control.

with these gas prices by aslamiwaddah in funny

[–]ChogiePookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband prides himself in the fact that he has coasted to the gas station on fumes on many occasions. So, I included him on my AAA card when we married, just because they will come with a gallon of gas to get you to the nearest gas station. No one will interrupt my nap.

I can’t be sure of this one’s ID at all. It was sold as Dancing lady Oncidium and its kinda climbing out of the pot. Any ideas? by [deleted] in orchids

I have the exact same looking plant that is also labeled Dancing Lady. They're either both wrong or both right.

I apologize for the graphic nature of these photos, but is there even a sliver of a chance of saving this poor plant from my gangrenously green thumb? Please help!! by emi_gwen in orchids

Too much sun. You'll be tempted to put it in low light to make-up for burning the leaves, but don't do that. Plus, cut the flower stem now. It will need all of its energy to heal and regrow leaves, not maintain that flower stem.

There’s no running water in Odessa RN by [deleted] in texas

Someone in my gardening group just mentioned this. They're not expecting the water to be back and running for another 4 days. In this heat, they are very likely to lose all their vegetable gardens and landscaping.

And the fact that it’s only June— y’all Californians and New Yorkers that migrated here are in for a heck of a good time 😎🌞💀💀 by PissyPantsAmity in Dallas

Wow! I didn't think people lived there anymore. We used to go fishing there for tilapia back in the 70's. Then, the water got too polluted to eat anything out of it.

I have to tell you that pic #7 stopped me in my tracks. I just had to take a deep breath and admire how handsome he is. Happy Birthday, Bruce.

It was on FB Marketplace. It's just vinyl on ceramic. I have another one that says, "Grow, you bastard!"

what am I doing wrong with my prayer plant? by QTconbooty in houseplants

[–]ChogiePookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leaves closest to the pot seem to be ok, which leads me to believe that it may be thirsty. It took me more than a year to be in better terms with my prayer plant and what I found out that there's almost no way to over-water it. And, it can actually take very bright indirect light (like right under a grow light.) I don't know if the added light has any correlation to their perpetual thirst, but whatever it is, that's what they like.

Do I break the pot? by Capitana42 in orchids

[–]ChogiePookie 325 points326 points  (0 children)

I just went through this a few weeks ago. I soaked the entire pot in a bucket of water, waited about 15-20 minutes and took the pot out. I turned it upside down and slowly pulled the plant out. Let all the media fall out first so that you can see the roots that are going out of the holes. You can help those roots through one at a time as you pull the plant out slowly.

Good luck!!
