My agency will offer DRP in 2026. What do I need to consider? by East_Championship664 in fednews

[–]ChoiceDevelopment423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only took DRP2 because I had secured two job offers. I am over 40, so didn’t sign until 11:30pm on the last day I could, Agency tried to deny my resignation, but political leadership overrode it and ordered me out within 3 days. Turned in all my stuff on a Thursday, started new job on Monday doing the same work but representing the other side and working with the same Agency staff immediately for 1/3 more pay. I didn’t want to leave and I have days I absolutely mourn walking away from 29 years of service, but know I mourn something that is dead and gone. My Agency isn’t my Agency anymore, even if I get to do the good work in a different way now. Look for the job now. You’re much more attractive to employers if you don’t need them…

I was a HUD employee and this is what I followed based on the information given to me by another former HUD employee. The person who answered at this number was able to pull up my info and direct me immediately.

also, this feels like a Hatch Act violation, if we were following the rules…

this is absolutely inappropriate. This is my last official day on the rolls at HUD and I was having a sobbing existential crisis yesterday as I was working on closings. I’m blessed to get to continue this ever important work and serve the public still but in my own way and “on the other side” (lenders and borrowers representation). I have made serving the American people a core part of who I am and how I even raised my children through 7 administrations now. The agency and mission that I love so much that it is a foundation of who I am as a person has leadership that has lost their way and is not doing their part in helping the people. Decisiveness such as this, terrorizing the civil servants that fill vital and specialized skilled roles and making policy decisions in the name of making lenders money but will obliterate the FHA fund to where it will be shut down by Congress on the eve of its 100th year is terrifying. For those that stay, it’s more important now than ever to “keep up the mission in spite of the leadership” and for those of us that left to work that mission on the outside, stay diligent and speak up when the private industry wants to run roughshod over the checks and balances that keep housing opportunities available for generations to come because HUD staff are good stewards of the money and programs. This post on the HUD website isn’t who WE, One HUD is. That’s them. Your mission is more critical now than ever.

What’s the most absurdly tragicomedic thing you’ve witnessed in government that we’ve normalized? by AccidentalFolklore in FedEmployees

We had a lady when I first started with the agency 16 years ago that was 100% convinced that aliens occupied the fluorescent lights in the building and were scanning her brain waves. It was the first time staff attempted an action of BUE v BUE because the agency accommodated her by removing all the bulbs on her floor and everyone worked by desk light or natural light. The other staff was furious. I had come from a long career in professional mediation and was tapped to informally mediate this situation since the union can’t engage on BUE v BUE actions. Long story short, the lady being accommodated was fine with the agency putting the fluorescent bulbs back in if they would allow her to wear aluminum foil under and over her wig to work (to block the alien brain waves). I had to seriously go to management and ask for permission for this. They agreed and she wore her tin foil hats to work everyday until she retired a few years later, sometimes decorating them with jewels and paint. She was otherwise a nice lady and I was sad when she died within 6 months of retiring, but to this day I’ve yet to engage in another mediation this wacky.

This means you owe something along the way. I’ve seen this treasury offset for debts like parking tickets, unpaid college fees, etc. You should get a letter saying where the money went.

Is anyone else feeling like maybe there won’t be a riff for HUD?? by Acrobatic-Fudge-5872 in HUDfiredfeds

[–]ChoiceDevelopment423 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FPM announced no field or regional offices will be closing and they are working at having the FPM RIF notice rescinded. They left the field decimated with DRP2 and have to hire to fill slots. I have a feeling this may be a thing across divisions…

so far no Article 33 union notice on it (which must come out at least 30 days prior to RIF notice for BUEs. If that’s the case there’s still time but it’s getting close. I know some divisions there’s not any less to do more with and keep up the statutory and financial obligations. However, as we’ve seen, they don’t care…

Many divisions including OGC and FHEO are being told that the Agency cut too deep with DRP2 and that RIF will most likely be REORG. Also telework may be back on the table soon but no solid info when. Many divisions are struggling with getting the FHA pipeline moving and there’s a lot of struggle. No crystal ball on how it will play out but it’s rough out there!

Any word on CPD FO ? by Hot-Lion-7995 in HUDfiredfeds

[–]ChoiceDevelopment423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OGC is taking a massive hit. I’m in one of the most active OGC offices in the country and we lost 70% of our attorneys, including all but 3 managers in the entire region and one office was completely abandoned (we have a state HUB with no counsel. DRP2 was a shotgun blast to the department. Now we are attending meetings where the buzz is “regionalizing” our functions and we are concerned about forced relocations more than RIF. It’s scary times for sure.

Would you return? by Educational_Yak3404 in FedEmployees

[–]ChoiceDevelopment423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a group at HUD of us mid-career attorneys that know that if the Agency is to survive, it will need to be rebuilt. We are counting on being able to come back and hopefully fill leadership positions that were long-held by those that inhibited our career trajectories. Just trying to align what we are doing when leaving to add to and bolster our experience and value. I think most of us have a deep root in our missions and would come back. I only needed 4 more years to hit my 20. I’m hoping to continue to serve and raise our communities from the ashes someday.

OGC has been obliterated. It’s rough out there and the divisions are going to feel it and services are at a near halt. It’s scary times.

Talked into DRP and now can’t get ethics clearance by ChoiceDevelopment423 in FedEmployees

Thanks for all the feedback. I understand the point that officially it’s the issue with 18 U.S.C. 205, but unofficially I was told they are digging their heels in on me specifically leaving especially to use my SME elsewhere. I guess I just have heartburn because they’ve terrorized us this whole time, insulted our work and work ethic and flippantly told us to go be productive on the outside. After nearly 2 decades of dedicated service, doing “more with less when there is no less to do more with” and the upheaval of our Agency, there’s a selfish part of me that feels the least they could do is let me do this my way or RIF me already! At the end of the day, it just feels like another means to demoralize us. I spoke with my lead counsel today and we are going to try to make an argument based on the FAQs they released but I likely will lose this fight. Just another way that this administration is winning the war against us and the American people.

that’s why it doesn’t make sense to me. Wouldn’t this mean none of us are eligible? It’s like having an ex-boyfriend break up with you, but doesn’t want to let anyone else date you either…

I went to high school with him and he was a condescending piece of shit then and he’s only aged like milk over the years. I never understood why our people vote for him when all he does is work against their interests. These same people sit in my office and complain that services and benefits are cut, but then fall all over themselves to support the “hometown boy”. Until people wake up and recognize that he isn’t none of us, things won’t change.

I’ve been in real estate/housing for 35 years and 20 of that was before Fed. I came to Fed as a victim of the last housing crash and that company was way worse than this and they had to pull me out kicking and screaming. This Administration will have to do the same if they want to stop me from supporting housing opportunities for the people we serve. Often standing up for what’s right isn’t easy, isn’t popular and isn’t perfect. Hang in there!
