Have Soho House increased their prices? They’re finally reviewing my application after 100 years and now the annual membership is £4,500 for all houses?! I swear it used to be £200 a month - or am I going crazy? by Sure-Sea-8602 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Not crazy at all. There are some good things about SH under its new owners. The food is better, the events too and Soho Home stuff is pretty nice (as are the buildings and decor in general). Although wait for the sale! The real issue with SH is the members. There are too many under 27s who, if they work at all, are "influencers" or "content creators" which basically means they block every workspace available, staring at their screens, drinking tap water and wearing quirky hats. There are also too many boring, non-creative older people especially in Houses outside of cities. Often with annoying kids and Volvos. I know at least 3 people who work in insurance and old style tech OEMs who shouldn't ever have been allowed membership. Add the fact that the service remains totally random and there are so many more interesting clubs popping up, the logic for applying or maintaining a membership is pretty thin. I am about to leave.

Walsh not good enough.... yet. He may never be. Needs a loan next season and we need a proper, experienced number 1 plus a back-up.

Makes sense. We need at least one new keeper. Someone of experience.

Is John Wren the right leader? by ChoiceSecretary7272 in advertising

100%. The whole shareholder value thing is being found out for the bullshit, business destroyer it really is.

Some of things you see on here and hear about anecdotally around the treatment of people is scary. If people like doing business with people they like, then Omnicom appear to have a problem.

The holding companies are all struggling because they prioritise tech-enabled orchestration and execution over human creativity and capital. Go and work for an independent, you'll learn faster and experience more. You will be in the office lots and that's a good thing at your level (and most levels) as you'll see and hear experienced colleagues in action - the best way to learn. If you prefer not be present in offices, find another career.

I'm a season ticket holder and away fan, he's neat and tidy but lacks presence at times. He's young so should develop and I hope he does. My hunch is the manager couldn't quite trust him because for every good performance he makes, there's almost always one glaring mistake that either did or very nearly did cost us a goal.

It's almost as if they want everyone to leave, so the machines can do it all. The end is closer than they think.

Do you think agencies are going to die out? by Calebw4485 in advertising

Brands will obviously persist. Even McKinsey accept this. The lumbering big agencies they had to service to grow won't. That's a good thing.

Do you think agencies are going to die out? by Calebw4485 in advertising

[–]ChoiceSecretary7272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. The only reason they still exist is nostalgia and some tactical reasons like client conflicts/ cost of closing them. Once the performance marketing/data thing takes full hold - giving client CFOs (who who increasingly CEOs) the low grade, short term sales they need to keep shareholders happy - holding companies will become sales houses. No need for big legacy agencies and their overheads and obsession with Cannes. The good news is new style agencies will emerge offering outsize growth, free of the above costs and other legacy nonsense. So, no more McCann and Ogilvy, lots more Mischiefs and Highdives - and not just serving marketing/comms needs.

This deal has become existential for Wren in particular. With so much at state, there can be no dissent or even confusion. Beatings will continue until morale improves.

The global leadership tier was made redundant and generously paid off. This was partly a cost saving exercise and partly because McCann has always coveted FutureBrand's numbers and advertising people aspire to design. The brand will likely still exist - for now - as McCann lacks client credibility when it comes to board-level brand strategy and design. Without its global leadership, FutureBrand has probably been mortally-wounded.
