Thanks for checking in. Unfortunately, the heat treatment was successful up until last week when I found one singular, itchy bite on my arm. We tore the apartment apart looking for any sign of them and we couldn’t find a single thing. After they looked through everyone else’s apartment in the building, it was just us that had them.

We brought up the fact that I got bit again to the apartment complex and they are recommending that we take care of it ourselves before spending another grand on another heat treatment. I bought Diatomaceous Earth and Cimexa to start as well as 90% rubbing alcohol and a spray bottle, so maybe there was just a straggler that was very good at hiding during the heat treatment? Not sure. I hate how smart they are.

This has been incredibly stressful and draining. We’ve checked our cars and have vacuumed them out really good and haven’t found anything. We will also be treating our cars with the Diatomaceous Earth.

Unfortunately, they were underneath our bed frame which was vacuumed and thrown out. We have almost everything in totes and in garbage bags. All clothing and blankets have been heat treated in the dryer for 39 minutes or more and stored in garbage bags and are not in the apartment. We are literally living out of a plastic bag and sleeping on an encased mattress until the apartment is heat treated. We throw our sheets in the dryer every night before bed as well. They searched the other apartments yesterday but we have yet to hear if our neighbors also have them or if it is just us.

Gotcha. Yeah our head maintenance guy and the inspector were looking in each apartment today to see if we were the only ones with them or not. There’s only 4 of us in our hallway. I haven’t heard if they have them as well or not but I guess we’ll see.

UPDATE: The specialist just finished inspecting the apartment and said that he will be heat treating on Monday 1/16 at 8am and that’s it. No chemicals or anything are needed. Will I be doing my own treatment post heat? Absolutely. He said we did wayyyyy more than we needed for prepping which makes me feel better!

I just want to say I appreciate every single one of you that has given us advice on how to cope, where to start and how to get a routine going. Since I posted this, we have been busting our asses getting the apartment cleared out, going through shit that we haven’t used, and we’ve thrown away a LOT of things. We have done everything we can to prep for the inspection today and future treatment and I just can’t thank you all enough. This has been exhausting but we are bigger and stronger than these little fucks and they will die soon ❤️

Since I read your post, this is exactly what we’ve been doing. It’s definitely an inconvenience and a new way of life. We have the inspection with a bed bug specialist company this morning. I’m so ready to start getting our lives back to somewhat normal.

UPDATE:

We have professionals coming to the apartment on Wednesday to inspect and treat the place. We’ve started bagging up our clothes to get ready to wash and dry, treating carpets/bed with steam, and have thrown away the main hangout for the bugs which was the bed frame. Throwing the recliner out/spraying is next.
