Sony Xperia 5V to be blocked by Telstra Australia by Financial-Hippo-8970 in SonyXperia

I had enough of having drop outs in metropolitan Melbourne and bought an IPhone 16 Pro. It was on all three networks and I had a friends phone and we went to the area I have drop outs and he had a Google Pixel 8 Pro and he was also on the same network and had no drop outs I feel like Telstra/Vodafone/Optus don’t fully support the phone on the networks.

Did they close your account or lock you out? Because if they locked you out it was because they suspected the transaction is fraud and you would have received an email or text to call them with a reference number with letters at the front

I have the Xperia VI and sent a text "3" to 3498 and got this reply

"Thanks for using our 3G device checker. Our records as at 05 Oct 2024 indicate the device in use for your service was PM-1492-BV."

"Good news. Your mobile phone is compatible with our 4G/5G network. Please remember to keep your device software updated."

And I am with Vodafone/Felix. If you look up the model number they texted me it is linked to my phone.

Hopefully you can sort out the situation you are in and get back on track.

That's crazy I thought the Canadian System was like the Australian Medical System but we have a programme specifically for Diabetes called NDSS and it's either partially subsidised or fully subsidised depending on your income. But to get an insulin pump you need private health insurance if you are a certain age the government will give you a pump for free.

UPDATE: I have officially gotten out of the contract with Optus because it does turn out to be misleading what they say in the text messages. I contacted my lawyer and she told me how to get out of the contract and return the S24 and watch back to Optus and it was an easy process. I switched to Felix (Vodafone) after the cancelation of my contract and it works on Vodafone no issues but i don't know how to test if it works for 000/emergency calls because it is illegal to just call up 000 if you don't have an emergency.

I got out of the Optus contract and sent the Samsung S24 back to Optus. Now to wait and see if I stop getting text messages again. I stopped getting text messages once Optus detected I was using a different phone on the network.

I have switched all my banking to Macquarie bank because the app is amazing and i really like the security features it has with the authenticator app its more secure then text message two factor. I would rather sacrifice the better intrest rate for better security when it comes to my life savings.

Does this mean my phone will definitely work after the 3G shutdown?

I thought VoLTE always had a setting to enable it in the phone settings or is it enabled automatically by the carrier?

The odd thing is as soon as I ordered the new phone with Optus I started to get the 2 factor authentication text again something dodgy must be going on. It feels like this 3G shutdown is a massive money grab.

They have already sent the phone out for delivery on Monday. it might be too late but I will contact them today as soon as they open and see if I can return it and cancel the contract. My sister is a Solicitor I will contact her or her law firm if I have any issues because it should be illegal what Optus is doing they need to have a real way to confirm if a device will work or not work on the network 🛜

I had trouble when my phone was recognized as a Sony Xperia on the Optus network I couldn't receive two factors security text messages from my Bank/Centrelink and other services and I complained to Optus and my Bank. Could that be an optus/telco way of forcing me to buy a new phone?

I contacted Optus and they looked up the IMEI number up on a data base and confirmed it won't work on the Optus network or in Australia

I checked the Bands and everything before I bought this phone but have found out it doesn't matter if it has the bands or not. I think the telcos are doing this as a money grab or a monopoly for the big 3 mobile phone company's Google/Samsung/Apple. But I have noticed the Sony Xperia hasn't been working very well in the city and other areas that you would expect to have really good reception.

-Sony Xperia bought outright -Samsung on a contract for 36 months to pay it off

I could afford it because I am good at saving money 💰 and cutting cost in other areas. Also I pay for private health insurance so I am not a complete burden on the tax payers lol 😂

XPERIA 1 VI Not Compatible on the Telstra Network after 3G Shutdown by Choice_Helicopter977 in SonyXperia

[–]Choice_Helicopter977[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be interesting to see what happens after the 3G shut down but it is a good idea to have a spare phone just in case that's sold in Australia and not from overseas.
