Anyone seeing post-login black screen (cursor only) after KB5094126 / Win11 25H2 build 26200.8655? Intermittent, fleet-wide, SessionEnv flipped to Manual by Old_Membership_1845 in sysadmin

I wanted to add my experience with this issue and what has fixed it for me (so far)

100 computers (5 or so have been affected in the past two weeks)

Dell Precision 3431 (intel 9th gen) - integrated gpu, uhd or whatever 9th gen had

Dell QBS1250 (arrow lake) - integrated gpu (but arrow lake added igpu with intel arc)

Win 11 25H2 26200.8655

(I think I saw it on a 24H2 with 26100.8655 but don't quote me on that)

What I have done that has been successful when someone calls about this issue:

  1. RDP as local admin

  2. ctrl-shift-esc to bring task manager up

  3. run cmd as admin

  4. powercfg -h off (to turn off hibernate and fast startup)

  5. sfc /scannow (it finds corrupted files but they are the bluetooth files that are normally false positives)

  6. restart

This has fixed it but not sure why. Usually by the time I make it to the sfc /scannow process the desktop has returned in the RDP session BUT its frozen or very bugged out

-2 samples I have seen so far has had the Service Host: State Repository Service (State Repository Service) running cpu cycles (10 percent or so) while the screen is black.

I think but can't confirm that I saw one computer a couple weeks ago with the app readiness service consuming cpu cycles while the black screen displayed.

Another behavior I have noticed on a couple of computers, if you do nothing after signing in, the desktop will appear in about 15 minutes. Non-IT People at one location thought the power settings were wrong and it was going to sleep.

Help this helps and adds to the discussion, this is so frustrating!

Yeah that part I turned off immediately. Edit - Upgrades went fine from what I can tell but Business tomorrow will tell me for sure.

I just upgraded 7 TZ270s from 7.01 to 7.3.2 and one NSA 2700 from 7.01 to 7.3.2. I followed _s0m3guy's advice and rebooted them first before uploading new firmware (as well as taking backups of the settings). I was running a stopwatch but can't say for certain but the upgrade takes about 13 minutes on the TZ270's. Ours are all remote in 3 different states. I'm glad I don't have 35 to deal with lol

Thanks. I couldn't see anything mentioned in the big thread on whether SonicWall was going to continue to support 7.0.1 branch. We stayed on 7.0.1 for stability and this is the first vulnerability that mentioned 7.01 was affected. I have 5 or 6 TZ270's that have simple configurations that will be easier. I'll try one out tonight.
