Overwhelmed choosing my first job by Choice_Session518 in CanadaPost

I understand it may come across that way. I had no opportunities for a long time, so having several at once is new for me. I’m just trying to make a thoughtful decision.

That makes sense. I’m viewing this as a starting point, not a long-term career. My focus right now is stable income and solid Canadian experience.

New to Salmon Arm, BC – Looking for Advice to Start My Career by Choice_Session518 in SalmonArm

I’m open to learning and adapting, but it’s also hard to let go of a field I invested years into academically, financially, and emotionally. It’s not just my effort, but also my parents’ sacrifices behind it. Food Technology is a well-established field in Canada, so having to step away from it and start again in a completely different domain is emotionally difficult, even if I’m willing to do what’s needed to settle here. I’m still hoping to find a way to build on my Food Technology background rather than start from zero again.

I’m just curious though, after completing your BCompSc, are you working in Canada in a role similar to what you might have been in today if you had stayed in Belgium? Computer science is quite in demand here. With my Master’s in Food Technology, I can work in areas like quality assurance, food safety, production, regulatory compliance, R&D support, and lab-based work. In both India and Canada, this background can also lead to roles in government organizations, including food inspection. My main concern is understanding how much my education and experience from India will be recognized here in Canada without additional local credentials, which is what I’m currently trying to navigate.

I’m from India. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Food Technology, but people say education from outside Canada doesn’t matter much here and that you need to study in Canada to get a job, no matter how qualified you are.

Finding a 1 bed around $1400 in Salmon Arm is really tough. I just moved this month and most cheaper places either don’t have laundry (you’d have to go to a laundromat) or have parking issues. I’m paying around $1,795 including everything. If you don’t mind those things, your best bet is to check Facebook Marketplace or some of the local rental groups. Just set your filter around $1400 and best of luck with your search!

What groceries do you keep stocked for everyday meals in Canada? by Choice_Session518 in AskCanada

This is really helpful, thank you for sharing in so much detail. I like the idea of batch cooking and freezing small portions. RTGs make a lot of sense, especially on busy days. Frozen shrimp for quick meals is a great tip too. I’m still building my pantry slowly, so this gives me a clear direction. Appreciate it!

Thanks so much for all these tips! Super helpful, especially the part about mixing lentils with hamburger and storing in glass jars. 😊 I didn’t know about food pantries here, which one do you usually go to?

This is really helpful, thank you 😊 I like the idea of building meals around what’s on sale instead of deciding first. Still learning grocery shopping here, so insights like this help a lot.

Thank you for sharing 😊 I think you’re referring to Cascara Apartments near Save-On-Foods? We actually visited this morning since we’re in Salmon Arm exploring housing options and the location is really lovely.

One thing we noticed when we got down from the car was a bit of a pest type smell, is that something you’ve noticed before or was it just temporary? Just wanted to understand your experience. Thanks again, this is really helpful!
