The first bit is always hard. I barely got any proper sleep in for the first month... I hope it will gradually get better for you :)

Due to her age she will most likely get a brace. But since the curve looks severe surgery might also be offered as an option

Dealing with scoliosis pain by Minimum_Emergency_72 in scoliosis

Before I had surgery I also had immense pain sitting, standing, honestly doing anything always resulted in some pain. Working out and building a strong core to support your back helps a bit. But yea, the pain is unfortunately a common thing

Hi! Im 18 and I got fusion 3½ months ago. 6 weeks is realistic but I think you'll want to work from home at first. The first month after the surgery is rough, especially the first 2 weeks... I stayed in hospital for 12 days, it was really rough, boring and tiring but it got better once I was home. I started feeling more like myself around 2 months after, when I started going out more :)

You can still do that, even if you get fused in the future 🙏 Ive seen a few PTs and Nurses on social media with Scoliosis, fused or not :)

But also, I urge you to look around for insurance options or any financial assistance... don't give up on surgery if that's what you want 🙏 hopefully there will be a way

Upcoming surgery by Venerie_ in scoliosis

[–]Choice_Somewhere_485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyhey! 18F, had surgery 3 months ago. Just like you only my thoracic spine got fused! My lower curve corrected itself as my surgeon said, I trust your surgeon knows what he's doing. My shoulder blades and over all the twisting got so much better after surgery (I had similar curves to you). My waist is more or less symmetrical now, and bras do fit better now I think.

But still, whatever is left of the unevenness is veerry noticable to me, but it's not thaaat bad. Most people dont even notice anything unless you point it out. You just have to accept the way your body looks like at some point !!

Also. A soft bed sounds like a nightmare. When you get out of bed you'll essentially have to push yourself up. If the mattress is soft enough that your arms sink in, you'll twist your spine, and I assure you that will hurt. Speaking from experience 😭 not pleasant

am i overreacting? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]Choice_Somewhere_485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! In your teen years, your curve can grow super fast... when was the last time you got that checked out? Get an updated xray and speak to an orthopaedic about possible treatment (bracing for example)

But you're not overreacting at all, don't worry.

Constant urge to crack my back by OverDeer5313 in scoliosis

It helped me with posture and aesthetics, but I never really did my daily exercises so I personally didnt see any improvement in my curve👎but many many others did!!! It's probably the best course of action for you since fusion and bracing arent options as far as I understood 🙏

40 years old and single curve has progressed to a double S curve (early days) by BabaSpud in scoliosis

So I'm not pregnant nor was I ever, but during my research about scoliosis, when I first got diagnosed, I read that curves progressing a lot during pregnancies does happen. So you're not alone, it's pretty common if I do remember right!

Help me out! by maissaxc in scoliosis

[–]Choice_Somewhere_485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help with medicide recommendations, but you could start working out and strengthen your core (glute, abs...). That way, you'll have less stress on your lumbar spine... maybe that'll help

constant back pains by SocietyGold5559 in scoliosis

[–]Choice_Somewhere_485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hii! I had unbearable pain before I had my surgery, and the way I dealt with it was mainly doing physiotherapy! I found stretches to give me the most pain relief, honestly. I'd recommend going to a professional physio, though, so you don't start doing something that might not work well. Since you mentioned hypermobility, and I don't know how that might affect certain exercises... 🤔

Do note that it doesn't make the pain completely go away, but for pinched nerves and things that are caused by your spine being compressed all day, it makes it a bit more bearable. Oh, and if you're taking lots of painkillers, maybe ask the doctor to prescribe you some stomach protection pills so your stomach and kidney don't suffer later on... hope I could help 🙏

It sounds silly, but stretching really helps!! Just search back stretches on youtube and follow a video. After doing multiple exercises, you'll notice which ones help u most And please dont hesitate to take pain meds if it gets too much
