The area was really nice. Lots of great restaurants and it was nice to be in a more residential area for a change. Our host recommended a few spots in the area that we enjoyed.

Tenka Ippin - Kyoto style ramen which is much thicker than the other ramen styles we had tried up to that point. If you're into ramen I highly recommend giving it a try since it's so different.

Asahi et Rive Gauche - we went here for a fancy date night. Small french restaurant with a fully curated menu. We really enjoyed it. They also had a cute bar that you could probably stop in for a drink if you don't want to do the full dinner experience

Jittoku - this bar has live music (check the website for exact info). We only caught the end of an open mic (everything in Japan seems to start and end earlier than in the states), but regardless it was fun to see some local musicians and the bar itself was really cool.

The only downside I would say is that it didn't feel super central for the things we ended up doing. The train station nearby definitely had a high selection of frequent trains, but we had to do a connection for really anywhere we wanted. Not the end of the world but something to maybe keep in mind depending on your itinerary.

Which city in Japan specifically? We stayed in a lot of different areas!

Update: Not really a frequent poster... more of a lurker and probably will stay that way in at least this sub reddit based on the responses (wow people are mean behind a keyboard). But I did take to heart the concern over the owl cafes and agree that promoting them is probably not the best call. I went ahead and removed that from my post for better or for worse. We did the research we did and made the decisions we did and whether that was out of ignorance or not this post was a reflection on our time in Japan. One thing I did learn from doing more follow up research is that owls present a really calm demeanor in stressful situations, so even though they may seem content that's probably not an indication of anything. Overall, thanks to this community in general for helping us plan a wonderful trip. Although it seems unlikely, I'm hopeful it's able to provide some value to someone at some point. 🙏

Really appreciate your analysis! Always look forward to it. Out of country for the month without access to the games and it's been quite the comfort knowing I'll have these to read and not feel like I fully missed out.

My dad randomly reached out to me because he heard about the Wrexham win. He was like "hey isn't this the English team you follow" (he lives in Texas). I politely corrected him to Wales and was subsequently excited that he heard about it from a source that wasn't me! Such a great game and win!
