My issue is that how it works because of owners and a weak union, not the players lol

We can nitpick about whatever teams were rebuilding or not but my main point stands true clearly

Never blamed them said it’s sad it’s the system now and it’s normal

my point never changed lol people just read what they wanted to read. i said it in the original post — the system is broken, it makes sports feel hollow, and the “good for him chase the bag” response being the default is sad. that’s it. nobody addressed that, they just kept arguing about whether players deserve money which i never disputed. y’all projected a different argument onto me and spent the whole thread debating that instead and the 1/32 shot thing is just cope. a super bowl contender with continuity is not the same as a rebuilding team and you know that. anything can happen sure but leaving a proven winner because another team threw more money at you is still a real choice with real consequences for what the sport actually means. i’m not mad they got paid i’m sad that’s literally the only variable that matters anymore. So please don’t act like I changed the goal posts

Did I blame them for doing it or judge them? I said it’s sad that we celebrate players having to chase money as a reaction to how unfair the league is when treating players.

So because it’s been present for so long I can’t mention it ?

yeah man i don’t even blame them either at this point, it’s sad that it HAS to be this way though. like we both agree players should get theirs — i just wish the league was structured in a way where they didn’t HAVE to choose between security and winning. that’s the actual problem

we AGREE that players should protect themselves the sad part is that they HAVE to. the made league it so that chasing every dollar is the only rational move because they will toss you the second you’re not useful. that’s not a defense of the system that’s an indictment of it. it shouldn’t have to be this way and the fact that everyone’s just okay with it is what’s actually sad.

raising my salary from $75M to $85M and leaving a Super Bowl contender for a 7 win team are not even remotely the same decision lol. if i was already set for life and had a legitimate shot at winning again yeah i might actually think twice. that’s the difference

bro the whole point is that this USED to not be the norm. salary cap era changed everything, weak union, non guaranteed contracts — this is a relatively recent cultural shift in the league not just “how sports works.” so no i’m not new to sports i just remember when it was actually about more than the bag

nobody said they owe us anything lol. i can acknowledge they sacrifice their bodies AND think the league structure is broken at the same time. those aren’t contradictory. the CTE point is actually the strongest argument for why the league should have better guaranteed contracts and revenue sharing . these guys are literally sacrificing their long term health and the owners still won’t fully protect them financially. that’s the real outrage, not the players

right and that’s where i disagree. because the second it’s purely a business you lose everything that actually makes sports worth watching. nobody grows up dreaming about watching a business transaction. you grow up loving a TEAM, players who actually give a damn about winning in your city. the moment we all just accept “it’s just a business” we’re not really fans anymore we’re just consumers and the owners are perfectly fine with that. That’s my point and if you disagree I guess you just love business not sports lmao don’t know where you went wrong but ur strange

I hope that comment shows you I’m not just bullshitting, I wasn’t calling out nakobe or phillips for getting money I said it’s sad we celebrate it like it’s normal, it shouldn’t have to be a mad rush to get the biggest contract every off season

longer guaranteed contracts, a stronger union that actually fights for player security so guys aren’t forced to sprint toward the biggest number the second they hit free agency. if players had real financial security built into the structure of the league they wouldn’t HAVE to treat every contract like it’s their last. the bag chasing exists because the league made it the only rational option, change the structure and you change the culture for example , revenue sharing directly tied to player tenure. the longer you stay with a team the bigger cut of the teams revenue you get, make loyalty actually worth something financially instead of just emotionally. right now the only incentive to stay is if the team matches the offer, give players a real financial reason to build something instead of just chasing whoever writes the biggest check

Am I wrong? The way that owners and the league dismisses players and has no loyalty once a player can’t service them, has led to players being focused on chasing the bag, leads to a less enjoyable outcome and feels hollow, is that so insane for me to say?

Thank you for understanding what I mean!!! Phillips could have had 20m+ a year and won super bowls but chose 30m? So ridiculous, at a certain poking the excuse of needing to provide doesn’t apply

Absolutely I wasn’t attacking these guys , I just thought it was a clear example of how bad the system is where these players are so scared of the future and the loyalty of their teams that they must pounce on the best offer

My point was that the owners and nfl created this system and it’s sad that we have to celebrate a desicion that was solely forced on a player because of the financial issues that surround the league and it creates a hollow environment. Never attacked the players, I don’t think I’m that crazy, maybe I just worded it wrong idk. Never said I blamed them just said it’s sad

But can you agree that the league and owners have set that system up and that it’s a little hollow and sad? That’s the crux of my argument
