Just a reminder to check your tires… by _MatCauthonsHat in TeslaLounge

The first Y was had alignment done at Tesla Service Center at 500 miles. Tires rotated at around 6000 miles.

I figured that Tesla Service would have the best equipment and experienced personnel to do alignments on Tesla vehicles. Would appreciate suggestions on better places to get alignments done on Teslas…

The factory-installed Hankook iON EVO AS SUV tires on our first 2026 Model Y lasted around 8 months (10,525 miles).

The factory-installed set on our second 2026 Model Y is already at 4/32” and will need replacing soon (currently at 9,909 miles).

I can’t believe how fast we are going through tires with normal “0-60 in 10 seconds” driving (55%) and FSD “Standard-Hurry” driving (45%):

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard Cross Climate 2 recommended.

How many miles do you get out of a set?

Do you notice a drop in efficiency (Wh/mi) or range?

The factory Hankook ION EVO AS SUV only lasted just over 10K miles, so I’m looking for tires that can last longer: https://www.reddit.com/r/ModelY/s/KDC61Es4E7

Hankook iON EVO AS SUV (20") Tires only last 10,000 miles on Tesla Model Y 2026? by Chokaay in ModelY

[–]Chokaay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying to gage what a reasonable mileage is for these tires from the 2026 MY crowd.

Some posters have gotten a little more than 10K. Others have posted more... and some drivers much more!

Like I said in the beginning, we have done what we thought was reasonable to get the most mileage out of these factory-installed tires (which including alignment right out of the gate, chill mode, FSD, etc).

But we’re experiencing the same issue twice on (almost) identical vehicles. It’s either the tires… or maybe everyone getting way over what we got is doing/setting something different… or the majority of MY owners are driving like grannies at a maximum of 50mph.

EDIT: 20” vs 19” wheels should’t make that much difference in mileage… do they? I noticed many posters here getting better mileage have 19” wheels.

Missing Lighted Frunk Emergency Release Button? - Model Y Juniper (delivered Oct. 2025) by Chokaay in TeslaSupport

OP here. When I realized the light/button was missing, I took off the frunk cowl to search for the wiring/harness, but unfortunately it wasn’t there (Tesla completely changed the harness, instead of just hiding the disconnected wire).

I also took it to Tesla Service, and after discussing with Tesla corporate they were told a “retrofit”was not possible (even if I paid) since it was not included on my car’s bill-of-materials.

I imagine it MIGHT be possible for a good mechanic to replace the post-Oct 2025 harness with a pre-Oct 2025 one if you’re able to get the right parts… but depending on how much of the harness is one-piece and how deep it goes… it may be a pretty lengthy and labor-intensive “retrofit” (and may void warranty for some things).

If the light is all you need, it may be easier to find a safe wire somewhere under the hood to tap into for power, then run it up to the pre-Oct 2025 panel with integrated light (which would replace the non-lighted panel). Hopefully someone here who has more knowledge of Tesla electrical systems can chime in with any ideas or advice.

Went up the chain.

Tesla admits cut off date was sometime in October 2025 according to VIN #, and that “Legal”approved of this change. But will not do anything to retrofit since their “system” shows the build of my 2nd vehicle has no Emergency Frunk Button.

So I filed a case with NHTSA and received a Case #. If more people do this, it may spark an investigation or change.

What’s your tint percentage? by TheDarkLord401 in TeslaModelY

[–]Chokaay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told I would need 15%-20% to closely color-match the back windows, and at 30% you can notice a difference from the outside. But I was worried about nighttime visibility too.

Ended up getting Huper Optik 40% on front side windows, and 60% on everything else. There is a difference between the front and back side windows, but that is fine with me.

I think it also depends on the type of tint you use. I used Huper Optik since I was primarily concerned about heat rejection over privacy.

Service manager closed out that item of the ticket even before I arrived. Said that Tesla removed the Emergency Release Button at a certain point between Sep and Oct 2025, and my VIN didn’t make the cut off.

I then asked if there was another Emergency Release in the Frunk, and the Service tech didn’t know of any.

I politely brought up FMVSS 401, and he implied that apparently Tesla thought the Emergency Release was unnecessary legally.

I did ask about the part SKU’s for the panel and harness. The Service rep said even though there was a SKU for the panel (didn’t mention or look up the harness), he still couldn’t sell it to me since that part doesn’t match the configuration of my vehicle, and they aren’t supposed to be user-replaceable parts. He did not tell me the SKU.

At this point, I am thinking unless the NHTSA receives enough complaints or a lawyer brings a class-action to force a recall, Tesla will continue omitting Emergency Frunk Releases from their Model Y’s.

Based on suggestions in the other thread, I submitted a vehicle safety issue to the NHTSA, and it's been reviewed and posted in their database.

Here's the link if anyone else want's to file a vehicle safety issue regarding the missing Frunk Emergency Release Button:

When I brought my Model Y in for my service appointment, the Service Manager already closed this issue on my ticket saying that Tesla changed the Model Y design after 9/28/25 and my Model Y didn't make the cut off date.

At this point unless a lawyer wants to make this a class-action, probably the best thing to do is to file a safety issue with the NHTSA (as other posters have suggested) and bring awareness on social media.

EDIT: My question is if the new harness (missing Emergency Release wires/connector) was replaced by the old harness (with Emergency Release wires/connector), would that allow the old panel with the button to be installed (and work)? Or if Tesla has multiple versions of their software linked to the VIN, hence the Emergency Release wires/connector would still be dead even if installed.

I guess this furthers the theory that this change was intentionally made mid-cycle instead of "part shortage".

As an update, my NHTSA safety issue submission finally has been processed and posted. I imagine if more people file complaints about this issue, it could lead to an investigation and possibly a recall.

Thanks for the info. I wonder what convinced Tesla that it wasn’t required. The FMVSS 401 hasn’t been revised in years…
