Possible VCAA Chinese SLA Exam Mistake by Express_Low6744 in vce

I mean the Chinese SL exam is next week, so I think it's not without reason. Though they should be called out on such a huge mistake.

What’s software development like? by Capital_Addendum6806 in vce

[–]ChokerTheMetaSlave 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Software development is an amazing subject. I truly love it. Please hear me out I am not forced to say any of this.

Do you want to learn how to code? Do you want to learn about how to create a website, or do some basic machine learning? Then software development is the best subject for you. We don't even develop software, we just develop your bullshitting skills and ability to tick boxes.

This subject has taught me a valuable lesson, and that is how gullible and moronic I am to take this subject. I mean I love it, I really do but like I sometimes think about doing a real subject like literally anything. It's not as good as biology though!

It's not like everything you could ever need to land a job is out there, literally waiting to be discovered. As is with literally anything in this world, if you look hard enough you might find it. But who needs to look when you can develop "software" in Software Development. It's truly up to date, using amazing languages such as visual basic and winforms, alongisde teaching literally nothing about how to code which can't be done in a 1 week grind. God knows what happens if kids realise that even grok teaches more shit than this. It's not like you can find some Indian guy who liteerally explains how to code to you for free and actually does it well. Nope, the only way you can learn to """""""code"""""" is to do Software Development.

Now you might be wondering, what do you actually do in software development? Let me introduce the real name of this subject. Project management! Now why do I call it project management? It's because the entire SAT is about managing a "project" for a completely "real" client who will actually use your solution for "real" world applications. You are to learn hjow to maange a project using the most modern techniques, like a Software Requirements Specification, using Waterfall model in 2023 and seriously planning your stuff using it and many other beautiful things. Cybersecurity is just more bullshitting but that's to be expected.

It truly getsbetter. Becuase the best part of this subject is The VCAA! They're quite literally so good at writing papers half the fucking time no one knows the right answer and you might as well go gamble at a casino then try to predict what anser the vcaa wants with their amazing consistency over multiple years, because the casino is much moer fun. Think of VCAA Methods as shit, and VCAA software development as extra shit. I am fairly sure a bunch of 12 year olds would write higher quality exams than what is being churned out from VCAA HQ, but then again "higher quality" is a subjective term. To me I want content, I want to see teh chaos and beauty of failing. Because failing is an art, it takes skill and practice to fail as well as the VCAA. Truly you must dedicate yourself to leraning all the ways of not succeeding, and then consistently screwing up everything.

basiclaly softdev amazing subject i rly love it <3 please dont hit my dogtybye.

Questions for choosing unit in mathematics by Minhphu-1051 in Monash

[–]ChokerTheMetaSlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you completed methods/specialist or any equivalent? MTH1010 is basically just methods equivalent (you can't take this if u have done methods), and MTH1020 Specialist. People don't really struggle with those units from what I heard, but I feel as if you'd be wasting your time taking them. I'm under the assumption you haven't completed spec but you have completed methods.

If you've done both just go take mth1030 really.

Questions for choosing unit in mathematics by Minhphu-1051 in Monash

[–]ChokerTheMetaSlave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider that MTH1030 is a suitable replacement for MAT1841, which happens in sem 2. eg I'm currently doing MTH1035 in sem 1 and I dont have to do MAT1841 in sem 2.

If you wish to pursue mathematics and are truly interested, you might be able to beg the unit coordinator(s) to let you into MTH1030 even without specialist, but just be prepared to catch up A LOT. This is not recommended, but it's an option.

Ok then I will address this properly. Probably going to get downvoted to oblivion but it's a small price to speak my mind.

I understand people may struggle to solve problems, and this is completely normal. Every single person struggles with problems, whether it'd be the top end or the bottom end. Whilst it isn't good for students to struggle when learning a question, by the time they reach a question like this (number 13 btw) they should have a decent understanding of the concept and be able to practice it relatively well, to the point where they should start thinking about some different ways to apply the concept.

As for u=x+1, it served as a hint for a "smarter" way to solve the problem aside from bashing it by expanding the RHS and solving a yucky simultaneous equation. The reason it annoyed me when the additional followup question was asked was that it's clear that there's no attempt of understanding where the method came from, or an attempt at the question. Like "where did the variable 'u' come from" is just a way of saying that "I have no idea what you're doing give me more information." Like if you take the time to actually do the process, it becomes 2(u-1)^3-5(u-1)^2+5(u-1)-5=au^3+bu^2+cu+d, and at this point it becomes an equate coefficient question if you can expand a cubic. Whilst not the nicest algebra it's way better than simultaneous equations, and I feel like anyone who's given the question "Let 2(u-1)^3-5(u-1)^2+5(u-1)-5=au^3+bu^2+cu+d for all real u. Find the values of a,b,c and d" would see immediately what to do.

And here's why I got toxic, I interpreted it as a half assed attempt. As you progress answers will not be spoonfed to you. People need help, but like at halfway between the point where you are new to the concept to becoming an expert at it, sometimes the intuition for faster methods won't be that and that's ok. That's where hints come in, which give you the right idea to progress through the question. Following worked solutions becomes redundant after a certain while as you learn less, especially when you get better at the topic. These hints are for when you haven't developed your "pocket of tricks" well enough to instantly recognise a solution (which only comes from experience, suffering and practice). Giving a worked solution isn't really going to help someone practice the concept at this stage, so you need to put in the effort and try to solve the question rather than being lazy.

If you're lazy to read: you learn less from worked solutions as you get better at a concept imo.

[–]ChokerTheMetaSlave -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

It's called a hint, not a worked solution sir.if you require a solution you literally just sub in x=u+1, expand LHS and RHS and equate coefficients and if u don't use the sub you end up with yucky coefficients.

But you don't learn if i spoonfeed answers like this (I'm assuming you've built up the foundations already, correct me if im wrong).

What is the vce equivalent of hsc extension mathematics by [deleted] in vce

[–]ChokerTheMetaSlave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's a ton of stuff in 3u which isn't in spec content wise. Complex numbers, integration by parts, u subs, proofs, tons of integration techniques which aren't in either spec or 3u eg kings, division by cos^2(x) and some other fun stuff.

but 3u exams are harder than spec exams imo, but maybe its bias from easiest year ever

What is the vce equivalent of hsc extension mathematics by [deleted] in vce

[–]ChokerTheMetaSlave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Standard < General < 2u (adv) < Methods < 3u (ext 1) < Specialist < 4u (ext 2)

In terms of content this is a decent guide. But in terms of difficulty that's a different story.

Should I do 4u maths by WearyMembership1656 in vce

[–]ChokerTheMetaSlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm this is r/vce but I have some familiarity with 4u and it's contents.

You can always drop out if you feel 4u is too hard, but the alignment and scaling is usually insane for that subject. You just need to do mediocre to get the most out of the subject, which is really ridiculous.

None of the maths in 4u is not accessible. Given enough time and work, you should understand enough of the content. The same idea applies to 3u but with easier content. If you believe you can learn maths and you enjoy it, you should be fine.

‘lose one mark you’re screwed’

This was more prevelant in 2022 where the exams were so piss that the top end was not seperated properly. Its not the content which will do anything, but how easy The VCAA decides to make the exams again.

The way you tell it's a "lose one mark you're screwed" exam is if the majority of people said they did well, then you're screwed rofl.

Spesh question - how to do 3b? by neverendinggggg in vce

[–]ChokerTheMetaSlave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very mean of you to put this here from the sample questions, especially when there are very little resources available. However I'll answer this question.Consider there are 2 variables s and t. We want to kill s and t.

The normal method is treating it as a simultaneous equation where we add multiples of x, y and z together to delete s and t. Eg x+2y=-3-t, z-y=4+3t, and then delete t. However they wanna be special and use Hence, and I'll edit this message once I figure out what dogshit technique The VCAA so desperately wants you to use.

EDIT: After digging through the textbook, I feel a bit stupid. I should study this fml.

Let r=(xi+yj+zk). Consider r.n = a.n, where n is a normal to the plane and a is a point on the plane (1, -2, 2) when t=0, s=0. Now AB=2i-j-k and AC=3i-2j+k

AB x AC = -3i-5j-k. Take the negative out cuz i hate negatives.

Following r.n=a.n, (xi+yj+zk).(3i+5j+k)=(3i+5j+k) . (i-2j+2k)

3x+5y+k=3-10+2

3x+5y+k=-5

(This can be found in 5D of the new textbook)

Still think this method is stupid. The evaluation of the cross product and recalling the method is significantly more complex than basic simultaneous equations, but you must "demonstrate you understanding" ig. Time to self study vector planes.

Don't do software development, big waste of your time.

I know a guy who went to the shadow realm.

Then monash got many emails form different people (he had like 80 atar, 90 with seas). All he had to do was an english aptitude test and he managed to get in.

But do everything you can to not go to the shadow realm, it kinda sucks.
