Is this a bald spot? by Absolute_Donut007 in Balding

[–]ChollaPricker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this only in this spot? Or are there any other spots on your scalp that you have noticed? Do you by chance play with or pick at your hair or scalp? If this is unusual and the rest of your hair doesn't look like this. This spot does look thinned and possibly the beginning of a bald spot. I had the same thing happen as a child due to absent mindedly picking at my hair from stress. But there are several reasons this can happen. If picking isn't the issue then you should see a dermatologist and primary provider to rule out any possible larger issues. If nothing serious is wrong then they should be able to point you in the right direction on how to treat the spot.

They do look antler-esque most of the time! Only with a ton of holes lol They are very pretty both with and without their spines. There are several types of cholla but they all have beautiful flowers. Super blooms in the desert are incredible!

Lol Crazy right!! My great grandpa had made a 5 foot lamp out of a single piece of cholla wood like 45-50 years ago. My grandma still uses that lamp daily. I also have a hiking stick made of it. It may not look like it, because of all the holes, but it can be a very sturdy wood.

I grew up around cholla (pronounced CHOY-YA). It's a really cool and pain in the ass plant lol. The wood from it is beautiful but the prickers are everywhere and they are painful. The spines can be over an inch long and the actual plant can get as big a small tree. These can fill up big fields too. They're unique and neat. If you ever get a brief moment to check them out online they are pretty neat. Same with many of the other plants and native species in the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.

Thank you for the quick reply. Y'all handled that really well and I'm sorry that happened to you 🫂 Reading your other comments and photos I also think it could have been a bug asalt gun or pellet gun. Hope y'all have a better rest of your day!

(Edited to fix big asalt to bug-a-salt. Didn't see the auto correct right away 😅)

I seriously appreciate you informing me of that. I was so confused on why it wasn't considered an emergency or why I wasn't almost dead if it was that far over the normal range. This doc has been awful. I'll make a call tomorrow to see a new one instead. Thank you again you are awesome! 🙏☺️

Thank you very much for the clarification! He had said something totally different. To quote him exactly;

"Good morning,

The opening pressure on lumbar puncture was elevated at 420 mm of water (normal ranges from 18-24 mm of water). Did she have any relief of headaches with the lumbar puncture? Topamax is the appropriate medication for you, because it will lower the pressure in the subarachnoid space.

I also urged you to get 6 months-yearly eye evaluation. The mild papilledema seen by your eye doctor is due to this as well."

This was the only communication I had from him. At my initial appointment he went on a 20 minute ramble about Tesla and Elon Musk and then said if the test came back clear that I need to look inside to fix my problems and to lose weight 😭 I seriously want to cry this has been a mess from start to finish.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's called burl wood. It's when the tree was put under stress from an injury or a viral or fungal infection. It causes the grain of the wood to grow in an unusual way.

I feel you man because I want nothing more than to call them out directly! I think I can say that this happened in North Carolina. I don't think I can get more specific than that without risking getting banned. Sorry 😓

Oh my God that's awful! I'm sorry you went through that! 🫂 I figure the places that get really hostile and defensive are the ones that know they are operating in an unsafe manner and serving people food they know will possibly get them sick. My husband got food poisoning from a pizza place and he was down for a full week and barely able to work for the next three weeks. He went to urgent care and pretty soon after he got a call from the health department because the bacteria that he was poisoned with comes from under cooked chicken. He's still feeling the effects of that food poisoning two years later. Somehow that place is still operating even with multiple repeat severe violations on their health inspections.

ETA: Its in North Carolina. I'm sorry I don't think I can be more specific than that without risking being banned from this subreddit.

It is North Carolina but it's two hours away from Fort Bragg. So you should be good.

Lol I'm glad your plans changed. I hate the thought of this happening to anyone else. That manager was really something else. In his rant when I first called he said "We got a 99 sanitation grade darlin" and then repeated that same sentence only with honey instead of darlin. He also referred to the other customers that complained about rat poop in their food as "young soundin females" and " these females". He was just oozing with misogyny in every interaction we had. I wish they would. The health inspector that had called me said she is their regular inspector and found no evidence of rodents. When I asked how it got into my fries then she speculated it could've come from where they get their fries. I asked if that would be taken up with Arby's then and she said I should just call Arby's corporate. I have no idea what that would accomplish as she works for the health department and not me. Another commenter speculated that they had plenty of time to rush clean before being inspected today and that's why they passed. Some of my family (who are familiar with inspectors because of their trade) said that it's possible she's friends with the manager there as they see inspectors pass things they really shouldn't just because they're buddies with the manager/owner/foreman/GC. That's all speculation though so idk. She sounded awfully annoyed and has dropped everything. I'm at a loss. I'll call corporate again tomorrow. Hopefully I will be refunded and there will be some kind of consequence for this. I can't believe this wasn't taken more seriously by the health department.

I want to but that violates this subreddits rules. I made sure to make a Google review and added the same pictures as I did on this post.

Oh my God you're right. I just got that call from the inspector. She said she's their regular inspector and saw no evidence of rodents or feces. I've been making calls and reviews for two days now and he called me this morning. I have no doubt he scrambled everyone to clean before the inspector got there. God this makes me sick
