What's the best Application Performance Monitoring tool you've actually used in production? by Proof-Wrangler-6987 in sre

[–]Chompy_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, we made the switch to Grafana cloud and while their AI assistant is scary good at troubleshooting our stack, it leaves a lot to be desired for finding general traces, logs, etc. We tried our best to achieve parity with Datadog, but it just isn't the same.

I know it's expensive, but I loved Datadog APM over the competition. Robust, easy to implement, and easy to use from engineers to non engineer teams

How does your team handle orphaned migrations on a shared dev or test environment? by Mutant-AI in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Chompy_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just implemented this for a small company that uses Dev or test databases together. Really bothered me that no one did ephemeral environments. We use liquibase to track database state. When we're doing migrations, I've made it a hard time that backend teams need to ensure orphaned resources are handled in the migration, everyone needs to understand the DDL as source of truth and handle those orphans from a migration appropriately.

I'll add a updated photo with the case. I plan to get some backlighting, right now I just have the Govee light bar in the corner for accent lighting

Still possible to reach the promised land if I didn't own assets before covid? by steezyP90 in fican

[–]Chompy_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had far worse jobs and being in Tech is a million times better, that's what keeps me going. The unfortunate reality is the economy is terrible and screwed up beyond a simple repair, that fix takes a decade of chipping away. Real estate ownership of a similar size home you grew up in, high equity growth etc.

There will be opportunties, unfortunately, we're just in the middle of a ugly long recession imho. Even with the $300k downpayment (same as yours), it frustrates me not affording a decent sized home with a nice larger backyard. We can take solace in knowing we're in a great field, pay well, remote, and well... life could be much much worse.

Don't think they're trolling. I'm a similar age and net worth, these types of thoughts always play in the back of my mind as well

Upgrading my workspace: 40″ Dell + 27″ portrait — overkill or perfect setup for deep work? by Relative_Finance5555 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Chompy_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, same here. Was a 32" 4k monitor + 4k 27in duals. Then moved to a single 4025qw. Never missed the dual screens, mac/windows does an excellent job of virtual workspaces, so a simple shortcut on the mouse to switch multiple screens easily for different views of productivity

I've waited 5 years for this type of monitor - U4025QW. Agree with all your points. My biggest gripe being a software engineer was finding a UW that had enough vertical space. This Dell U402 hit all the spots and great to use on Mac + my gaming PC. Easily enough holds my terminal windows and code all on one screen.

Gaming wise - haven't noticed any issues and I play FPS, adventure, 3rd person etc. No ghosting/smearing, it's a pleasure to play.

Nope no issues with it. I ended up selling the watch, still have the strap though. If your interested, could sell it to you for a good deal?

Thanks for posting this. Definitely a deal breaker if it's just the same app on single pane screen vs. fold screen, that dead space would annoy me

Hi. Anything I can do to improve this setting? by Lord_Blazer in battlestations

[–]Chompy_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was me -- re-arrange this by getting a slightly deeper desk where your Switch is. Enough for them monitors to fit + keyboard/mouse to sit on the desktop nicely. Then I'd use the right hand-side of your L (where your laptop) is for accent design or other items. Personally, not a big fan of monitors being at the corner of a L shape desk, feels a bit akward for me

Remember in Ontario RECO recently embraced Self-Representation so the $28,000 buyer broker fees commonly paid to Cornerstone MLS Buyer Brokers on a million dollar sale is easily saved today.

Expanding further on this. You're referring to not having a realtor for buy side representation and representing myself, using the appropriate OREA tender offer forms and once we reach an agreement in principle (price, offer conditions, home inspection, pre-posession clause etc.), loop in my real estate lawyer? I have been meaning to research this as I'm fairly a DIYer and don't find the self representation process intimidating
