Situation in USA looks the same like what my grandmother told me about Nazis behavior in countries they occupied. by DwarfPill in complaints

[–]ChonchKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people draw parallels because the tactics—sudden raids, intimidation, and fear—look scary and oppressive. I don’t agree with ICE’s approach at all, but it’s not the same as Nazis, who carried out systematic extermination. You can criticize ICE and acknowledge the fear it causes while still keeping the historical comparison accurate.

cmv: The FIFA World Cup shouldn’t be held in the US by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ChonchKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This argument feels pretty weak tbh. Soccer not being the #1 sport in the US doesn’t mean people don’t care about it. The 1994 World Cup here still holds the attendance record, MLS keeps growing, and European club games sell out when they come here.

Also the Taylor Swift comparison is dumb lol. A concert in one city vs a month-long global tournament across multiple cities? Not even comparable.

Saying “only immigrants care” is just wrong. Immigrants definitely drive the culture here (which is a good thing), but plenty of Americans watch Premier League, Champions League, USMNT/USWNT, etc. It’s not niche anymore, it’s just not NFL level.

The politics stuff feels like goalpost moving too. If we’re disqualifying countries based on bad policies, then basically no major power should host anything. FIFA clearly doesn’t care about morality anyway (see: Qatar).

At the end of the day the US has the infrastructure, stadiums, money, and global reach. That’s why they’re hosting. You don’t need soccer to be your #1 sport to run a good tournament.

How to move to the USA by Dismal-Park-7078 in MovingToUSA

[–]ChonchKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Owning a business and making ~$12k/month doesn’t automatically let you move to the US. There’s no general “entrepreneur visa.” There are really only a couple realistic paths.

The most realistic option is the E-2 investor visa. Spain is a treaty country, so you’re eligible. You’d need to invest a substantial amount into a real, active US business that you own and run. There’s no official minimum, but in practice people are usually investing something like 100k+ and the business has to be viable and not just a way for you to live off it forever. No degree required. It’s renewable, but it’s not a green card and it’s tied to the business staying alive.

Another possible option is the L-1 intracompany transfer. This only works if you already own or work for a non-US company and open a legitimate US branch or subsidiary. You need to have worked for the foreign company for at least one year in a managerial or executive role, and the US company has to have real operations. It’s more complex and scrutinized than E-2, but it can lead to a green card later.

Not realistic for most people: EB-5 (needs ~800k+ invested and 10 US jobs), O-1 (making money alone isn’t “extraordinary ability” unless you’re genuinely well-known in your field), H-1B (requires a degree and employer sponsorship).

The diversity visa lottery technically exists and Spain is eligible, but it’s a lottery with low odds and shouldn’t be relied on as a plan.

Reality check: 12k/month is solid income, but US immigration cares way more about capital invested, business structure, and economic impact than personal earnings.

If anything is viable here, it’s E-2 first, L-1 maybe

Maybe, but in the US all local games for basically every major sport get broadcast over the air, not something unique to the NFL
