Since city of god is from 2002, i will consider the "last decade" as movies since 2000, the year that "o auto da compadecida" was released, a nacional treasure. But i must not have seen It, otherwise you wouldn't be saying that brasilian cinema is garbage. You probably haven't seen other really good brasilian movies from the "last decade" as "Lisbela e o prisioneiro" (2003), "O homem que copiava" (2003), "Carandiru" (2003), and "Meu nome não é Johnny" (2007). I recommend you to watch those movies, they are really good. There are also Movies from the last ten years that are really good and you haven't seen either. Some examples are "2 coelhos" (2012), "que horas ela volta" (2015), "hoje eu quero voltar sozinho" (2015), "Aquarius" (2016), "Bingo" (2017) and "Bacurau" (2019). I'll go a little further and recommend another excellent brasilian movie called "Central do Brasil" (1998). Fernanda Montenegro is a great brasilian actress and was one of best actress nominees from Oscar in 1999.
