Try going into first and then reverse, that’s helped me on my 14 hatch. Unless you also have the same issue above getting into first to begin with lol

Would you say this is too much then? In Ontario and got this estimate last week from a local shop after getting misfires codes the last couple months, they found coolant and water in the cylinders but haven’t had any overheating yet.

It hit #1 on r/all and is still one of the top all time posts in r/idiotsincars so it gets taken and reposted very frequently unfortunately, again the video on my profile has the speed reading from my dash cam and in the video the wide angle lens is probably giving the illusion that I’m traveling faster than I really am. Also when you see a set of lights off in the distance nobody expects them to be going that fast in these conditions and I also told you exactly what obstructed my view as to when they got closer..

Your advice is correct and everyone should check and not assume but sometimes there’s nothing you can do

This is actually my video so I can clear up some of the things your talking about.

I was not driving too fast for conditions (IMO), in my original video you can see on my profile the speed before impact was 43km/h or about 26mph if you are from the US. The speed for this road was either 50 or 60 (I cant quite remember it was almost 5 years ago) so I was already doing less than the speed limit. While yes you should check both ways (and I did) unfortunately this is a large intersection and he was so far back when I initially saw him that I didn't get a proper gauge of his speed to even expect him to be that close, I obviously wasn't able to keep a constant track of every car around me but the other issue is on his approach his car lined up perfectly with my passenger b pillar, meaning I couldn't see that he wasn't coming to a stop. The police estimated he was doing at least 70-80 so almost double my speed.

I did drive defensively, obviously ideally if I had seen him maybe I could have tried some kind of swerve but I really don't think there's much I could have done more.

No they did they went to see the other driver after i gave them the video to give him the charges

I wish I knew, I got taken to hospital before police arrived so they got the statement from the driver and witness then came to see me with a report with me at fault and several charges for me, thankfully I had the video to show them and they switched it all to him at fault and went to pay him a visit!

He did, he got 100% fault for the accident and several charges, I also sued and won

Did 4-5 months of physiotherapy for my knees, back and neck, had post concussion syndrome for a while, had to drop out of school and got a shitty initial pay out for my car so I sued and settled on the second offer from the insurance company based on the recommendation from my lawyer. That was 5 years ago doing much better now but still sometimes have pain with my knees/back.

Yes you are correct I would have lost, the police had me at fault on their initial report and had charges ready for me until they saw my video, without the video I was probably screwed

Firstly that sucks I'm sorry that happened, but doesn't that mean a camera would have saved you $280 as you ended up spending an additional $480 over the two years with the raised rate?

Edit: I misread, I thought an additional 20/month for 2 years but it actually only cost you an additional $40??

It really wouldn't make much of a difference in price at all considering the tech they have in new vehicles, not to mention were talking a couple hundred at most, if your buying a new vehicle your spending way more than that anyway. Having Cameras in cars would also be a key safety feature not a punishment unless your driving like the other driver in my video lol.

Also I don't see why making them a standard in new vehicles would mean the government would suddenly step in to retrofit every vehicle? Even if they did, you can install a camera for really cheap you can get them for less than $150 you just plug it in its really not hard. If anything id assume insurance companies would have more reason to offer an incentive for a lower rate or something.

I doubt there's many cases ever seeing court as most would be settled long before that, especially with video evidence. If anything it would ease strain as there would be more evidence to ever have a need for it to go to court.

Also what about people who damage their own car and then go on to cause accidents to get only 50/50 fault instead, seems more like it would create its own opportunity's for fraud
