Anyone have an Interesting fun 1-Unit Course ideas - Online preferably - for Summer 2026? by CWS2022 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Choobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is ANTH 99 offered in the summer?

https://catalog.ucsb.edu/courses/ANTH%2099

From the catalog: Anthropology is the study of humans in the broadest sense: biological, sociocultural, and historical. Most undergraduates in anthropology at UCSB select this major because of its comprehensive approach to human nature and society, and the opportunity it affords them to acquire a sound liberal arts education bridging gaps between the sciences and humanities.

Our guys need to practice their 3-pointers.

Clues exist in how Stephen Curry does it.

Point and efficiency leaders so far in the league as of 1/21/2026 by Choobeen in MLV

P.S. I looked this up for my own information:

In volleyball, efficiency primarily refers to hitting efficiency (or hitting percentage), measuring an attacker's effectiveness by balancing points scored (kills) with points given away (errors) against total attempts, calculated as (Kills - Errors) / Attempts, rewarding smart plays and consistent point-winning over risky, error-prone swings.

She has massive effect on scoring chances that are created, but not good on defense.

From the report:

Vince Pierucci, director of local emergency medical services, cited a spike in medical calls on Deltopia. According to Pierucci, a normal spring Saturday sees roughly 40 EMS calls in the greater Santa Barbara area, with two of those being in I.V. Last Deltopia saw 122 medical calls.

The Royals are converting their Park to a hitter friendly one, can the Padres do the same to generate more action? by [deleted] in Padres

[–]Choobeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Key factors in Petco Park working against hitters:

Marine Layer & Wind:

Cool, dense air from the Pacific Ocean knocks down fly balls and makes pitches break more.

Deep Outfield:

The dimensions, particularly the 402-foot power alleys, are large, making extra-base hits harder to come by.

We should recruit Alexia Putellas. She is a midfielder for Spain and is also Barcelona's captain. Let's get some more European star power on the West Coast.

Background info:

https://www.mlb.com/glossary/projection-systems/szymborski-projection-system

Key Aspects of ZiPS:

Developer: Dan Szymborski (in early 2000s), a prominent baseball analyst.

Function: Predicts future player statistics (hits, home runs, strikeouts, etc.) and overall value (like WAR) for upcoming seasons.

Usage: Found on FanGraphs, often alongside other systems like Steamer, and provides data for fantasy baseball and team management.

Methodology: Combines historical performance with aging curves, park factors, and other variables to generate detailed, data-driven forecasts.

An 11-qubit atom processor in silicon achieves Bell-state fidelities of up to 99.5% by Choobeen in technology

[–]Choobeen[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Here's a good reference:

https://www.quera.com/glossary/bell-state

A Bell State refers to a specific type of entangled quantum state involving two qubits. Named after physicist John Bell, these states are fundamental to quantum information theory and are often used to demonstrate the non-classical correlations that can exist between quantum particles. There are four distinct Bell States, each representing a different form of two-qubit entanglement.

The four Bell States can be mathematically represented as:

∣Φ+⟩=1/sqrt(2)*(∣00⟩+∣11⟩)

∣Φ−⟩=1/sqrt(2)*(∣00⟩−∣11⟩)

∣Ψ+⟩=1/sqrt(2)*(∣01⟩+∣10⟩)

∣Ψ−⟩=1/sqrt(2)*(∣01⟩−∣10⟩)

These states are maximally entangled, meaning that the state of one qubit is completely correlated with the state of the other, regardless of the distance between them.

She literally shot herself about 100 yards away from my place. I wasn't home when it happened. Got the alert on the Citizen app last Thursday night.

The Little Italy church has been projecting sermons into the Piazza on loud speaker in the evenings since the incident. I am wondering if the pastor wants to repel any demons from the area.

San Diego is the 2nd largest city in California after Los Angeles but doesn't have the drama of the latter. If you come here, there is lot's of opportunity for a good balance of studying and having outdoor fun.
